What things horrify and fascinate you at the same time?

I'm petrified of oceans and seas - deep waters in general. But I'm also completely obsessed with it too; I'll watch anything to do with marine life, oceans, sharks (😱) even though it scares the shit out of me. I live on the coast and love it, but jeez-oh it scares me.

What about you?

Submarines

@squashyhat there’s a you tube video of a guy paddle boarding out to some - I think in Brighton. It’s so eerie!

appleaday12 · 06/08/2022 13:59

The spillway at Pontsticill Reservoir in Wales.

Horrifying to think what would happen if you fell in but can't look away!!!

Ladyof2022 · 06/08/2022 14:00

Jack the Ripper and each of his victims.

Loved "The Five".

Pylons. Sounds weird, I know. Suddenly developed an aversion to them but find them fascinating especially when near people's houses

Gosh yes, thought of pylons straightaway.
Even the word gives me shivers, I've always felt weird about them. We used to live very close to one when I was young & I still remember it hissing in wet weather.
I'd still have to really challenge myself to stand under one & don't think I could look up.

Reversing a trailer

Serial killer documentaries

Spiders. I watched one spin a web once and they are amazing and fascinating. But they horrify me and terrify me and I don’t want them to come into my house.

While Australia has some pretty venomous spiders and snakes, I am also terrified of the massive non deadly huntsmen spiders. I never used to be as I’d get a container and catch it and take it outside. But when I tried to catch one that jumped, I ran screaming out of the room. And since then I can’t go back to not being absolutely terrified.

When I do see them outside, I find them and their web designs fascinating.

ImustLearn2Cook · 06/08/2022 14:07

@Summerofcontent The trick to reversing a trailer is to steer in the opposite direction that you want the trailer to go. So, if you want the trailer to turn left, you steer right.

The Internet.

RhubarbFairy · 06/08/2022 14:08

Murders. My Google history is questionable as I go down one wormhole after another.

The film version of Cats

😂😂

Train stations.

Submarines Imagine Being in both a confined space yet also in a colossal space at the same time.

Very common but the thought of what's in the rivers and oceans. I don't mean the aquatic life but ship wrecks and things.

Things in water that should be on land and things on land that should be in water (Looking at you ships in dry dock)

I'm sure ill be back with more.

Excellent thread op

Those number message things that used to be broadcast after The Lincolnshire Poacher - help me out someone!

Ships out of water- can't bear to look, or look away.

Number stations!

One of my dc is on cadets and they were looking at these one night, they played lots of different ones on the way home in the car and they were sooooo creepy!! More so when dh pointed out imagine decade's ago being on shift in armed forces on your own in a dark bunker listening out for those!!

Anything to do with space

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 06/08/2022 14:19

Doesn't horify me but time as always fascinated me. Did you know 1billion is 32 years

Oh my God, I couldn't stand under one! You're so brave 😬

Cases of missing people, like the Springfield Three, Lars Mittank, Asha Degree, Kyron Hormon. I find it fascinating that people can be here one minute, disappear the next, and never be seen again or their bodies found. Fascinating but terrifying.

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 06/08/2022 14:21

Any large man-made structures - wind turbines, viaducts, pylons, cooling towers. Makes me shudder just thinking about them.

notOKtoday · 06/08/2022 14:23

Caves. Anything to do with them just totally fascinating but terrifying why do people crawl through the tiny gaps etc 😱

What's this please?

Zibbydib · 06/08/2022 14:24

Post mortems. I have been at a few because of work. It is the most surreal thing. They’re so interesting yet horrifying. I usually can’t eat for a good few days afterwards!

TheHorrorOfIt · 06/08/2022 14:27

A massive hole in the ground - search Mir Mine in Russia, on google earth. It is totally freaky but I often look at it and it gives me the heebies

lollipoprainbow · 06/08/2022 14:28

Morturaries morbid I know.
