I had a shock recently re-watching Mamma Mia, I always identified with Sophie’s character age-wise, but realise I am now Donna’s age, assuming Donna is in her early 40s..
Anyone else go straight from being in their twenties to their forties without noticing? I swear I’ve lost a whole decade somewhere!

It happens to me with music all the time , a record I like will come on the radio, I will sing along , and the DJ will say that's from the 80s , yeep! ! I thought it was only 10 years old

TeapotTitties · 03/08/2022 00:20

I asked a '6th former' where the toilets were on parents evening.

Turned out he was my son's head of year 😯😂

Performed a cartwheel for my DC to demonstrate how easy it is and pulled every muscle in my legs.

I receive anti ageing products in my Christmas stocking.

Try a telex machine. 😂

Joining in with a work sports day, injuring myself in two places going hard for a ball, limping for 2 weeks, thereby putting my back out as well, chronic heartburn from the copious amount of painkillers needed for all my injuries, IBS type flare up from the tablets to combat the heartburn.

And this was a sport that I played at county level in school…forgetting that school was over 30 years ago 🤦‍♀️

TiniestClanger · 03/08/2022 08:02

Watched something where Claire Danes played the mother and not the daughter!

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 03/08/2022 08:04

When we watch TV talent shows / award ceremonies I now generally find myself thinking how proud their parents must be, rather than thinking how it might feel to be the actual (young) person on stage 😁

When I realized that the graduate trainees in my office were the same age as my children.

Clevs · 03/08/2022 08:23

I mentor students at work who weren't even born when I started my job.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/08/2022 08:24

When one of my newly qualified colleagues mentioned that her mum was my age. And children I've known from newborn, are transferring to adult services.

Iwantacampervan · 03/08/2022 09:01

Explaining to a confused 19 year old what a paper driving licence is and talking about the 2012 Olympics at cubs and realising that only a few of them were born then (to me it was only a couple of years ago).

maranella · 03/08/2022 09:06

When I asked DS to 'wind the window up' in the car and he looked at me for a moment before saying 'Wind the window up? It's a button Mum'. So then I had to explain that windows used to have a handle, etc, and he muttered 'Yeah, in the Dark Ages' 😂

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 03/08/2022 09:10

When DD asked what life was like in the 'olden days' and she meant when I was little.

Did you have TV in the olden days?
Did you go to school in the olden days?
Did you have parties in the olden days?

I also gave my dc a lecture the other day (when they had 'nothing to watch' on Disney, Netflix, Amazon or Sky!) about how kids tv was only on after school and on a saturday morning 'in my day' - eugh I cringed even listening to myself.

Giggorata · 03/08/2022 09:16

When I found that I could no longer climb a rope - in my thirties. 🙁

Blueswedeshoes · 03/08/2022 09:17

When you’re talking about your favourite songs at work, and assume that your colleagues know who Simply red, Rick Astley, Bananarama, U2 etc etc are, but they just give you a quizzical look!

Mabelface · 03/08/2022 09:26

When my brain says "I can do this! " and my body says nope.

WombaMaPonga · 03/08/2022 09:26

When scrolling to giving my age range online and realise Ive drunk two cups of tea before I get to it
Bastards should do it back to front Grin

I bet it won't be long before they are telling you how to do the job though!

illiterato · 03/08/2022 09:29

Winona Ryder being the mum in Stranger Things. Kate Winslett playing the mum in Mare. Toni Collette playing the mum. Basically all the actresses that are my age being mums Grin

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2022 09:30

@Blueswedeshoes - I told a 21 year old colleague how I once bumped on to Holly Johnson in the early 90's. The look on her face told me she had no idea who I was on about Grin

My children have explained to me in very simple language what vinyl records are, and how you play them. Because of course no one in this day and age is old enough to have ever used one before, and they're a totally bizarre thing Confused

LynetteScavo · 03/08/2022 09:31

My face on Teams calls. Sad

IglesiasPiggl · 03/08/2022 09:33

When your children describe Nirvana as "a band from the olden days who wore disgusting cardigans and didn't wash" 😂

TheBatwoman · 03/08/2022 09:33

Running around after two mobile 10 month olds. Wish I’d had kids in my twenties on their more active days.
