I had a shock recently re-watching Mamma Mia, I always identified with Sophie’s character age-wise, but realise I am now Donna’s age, assuming Donna is in her early 40s..
Anyone else go straight from being in their twenties to their forties without noticing? I swear I’ve lost a whole decade somewhere!

When, at the sad news of the death of Bernard Cribbins last week, my first thought was the Wombles.

Hopefullysoon2022 · 03/08/2022 13:55

In 8 years the 80s will have been 50 years ago.

Does not seem that long ago.

And I was on FB years ago and they asked the 1st serious disaster that you remember and I said Challenger.
And my kids wrote underneath I think you mean Titanic.

I love them sometimes😂

Lottieskeeper · 03/08/2022 13:59

I developed a bit of a school girl crush on a youtuber that me and my husband follow.
My husband helpfully pointed out that I'm old enough to be his mum!
Thanks DH, now I feel like a right old pervert.

Mine was the Carry On films.

I told the new Head of Drama off for wearing her coat in the corridor.

OMG 😂

Spudlet · 03/08/2022 14:06

Another one occurs… by virtue of my job, I see people of all ages in a state of semi-undress, including athletes, most of whom are young. I realised that I found them cute…. But in a pinch their cheek and try and feed them up sort of way as opposed to in any other sense 🙈

I was discussing this with a friend, and she says she finds herself thinking things like ‘He’ll make someone an excellent son-in-law’ 😂

Bonjovispjs · 03/08/2022 14:11

The kids I looked after in my first nanny job are now older than the parents in my current nanny job😟

skgnome · 03/08/2022 14:18

when I started to find teens on movie’s whiny and unrelatable….
”is the love of my life” - yeah right you’re 16, you’re going to break up in 2 years!
and don’t even get me started with teens with no training whatsoever outsmarting fully trained adults… I used to think that was so cool and I dreamed to be like them, I now see it and think “really? That would never happen”
yes I’m old
that and having to explain a freshman in Uni what a VHS was…. I felt old…

Solosunrise · 03/08/2022 14:25

I've just posted on a thread about rocking it in your fifties.
And now I've come on here to say I related to almost every post Blush

Titsflyingsouth · 03/08/2022 14:33

I now make an 'ooomph' sound when I sit down in low chairs.

I have literally no idea when this started but it is classic 'old person' symptom, no? I'm only 48 FFS!!

NightmareSlashDelightful · 03/08/2022 14:35

We've got a couple of new fitness instructors where I work. They're 20 and 21. We established that they were eight and nine years old respectively when Cameron first became prime minister. I still think of Blair as reasonably recent and these two weren't even born when he won in 1997.

Evenstar · 03/08/2022 15:22

I do have fibromyalgia, but someone parked too close to me at Tesco’s the other day and I am still aching from getting across from the passenger side 😳 I am only 58 ☹️

IglesiasPiggl · 03/08/2022 15:29

I see women in their twenties and think they would make nice girlfriends for my sons.

EllieQ · 03/08/2022 16:06

When actresses your age (mid-40s) are playing the mums on TV and film. Seeing Alicia Silverstone as Kristy’s mother in the recent Babysitter’s Club series was a shock!

I used to work with a lovely young chap who was mid 20s, good looking and a really nice guy and I remember saying to one of my friend's how if I had a daughter about the same age, I'd be thrilled if she brought a boyfriend like him home to meet me.

TheDogsMother · 03/08/2022 16:46

Kath Bush Running Up that Hill has had a revival due to Stranger Things. I spoke to a younger person about it and they were astonished to know it wasn't new.

Sunshineona · 03/08/2022 17:07

Watching One Direction on X Factor and think awwwww how sweet, they’d be lovely sons to have.

Waking up one day with random unexplained back pain that took a year to get better.

All the grey hair 😱

lightand · 03/08/2022 17:09

I am watching my steps.
Dont want to trip 🙄

mackthepony · 03/08/2022 17:10

When you simply stop seeing good looking men. They can't have all disappeared! There used to be loads?

Must be my age

mackthepony · 03/08/2022 17:12

For me it's the constant moaning that I want to do. I just want to complain about everything

I try to keep quiet

Blossomtoes · 03/08/2022 17:15

Definitely a dearth of good looking men.

Garysparrowsthirdwife · 03/08/2022 17:18

my kids had never heard of teletext
i once saw my postie wearing shorts in winter and my first thought was ‘god,I bet he’s cold’

my dds boyfriend once said he ‘loved vintage music’ turns out he meant take that
90’s fashion is back-I see kids wearing what I wore, what feels like 10 minutes ago

ive just walked the dog-we walked about two miles and I had to sit down 4 times

im 44 not 84

SpottyStripyDuvet · 03/08/2022 17:21

I recently joined the gym. It turns out the gym manager is half my age!!!

To be fair I was only pushed into action by seeing how unhealthy my parents are after years of not looking after themselves. The fact that they are in their late 70's should give me a clue that I am no longer in my 20's.

Seaweasel · 03/08/2022 17:21

When I was sitting alone on a train a few years ago and this good-looking chap, probably early twenties came and deliberately sat opposite me, even though there was loads of room. There's me smiling to myself thinking "Still got it" until I realise that there's another group of young people being sweary noisy further down the carriage and he's moved to sit near me because he feels safe. Felt a bit conflicted about that, to be honest.

Knittingnanny2 · 03/08/2022 17:22
