Yes. Good decision. I thought she might win. What a fiasco and waste of money

Did those people follow any of the evidence?

Vardy's case was an absolute joke. Her legal team are also a joke - how on earth professional barristers and solicitors were convinced to run with this case, I've no idea. They've just shot their professional credibility to hell.

Clearly you don't understand legal
process very well . . .

Fluffymule · 29/07/2022 12:59

bollygu · 29/07/2022 12:45

Are people unaware that Colleen was sued & tried to settle outside of court?

Just saw the BBC news clip. It said that Colleen offered 4 times during the process to settle and stop the circus. Vardy refused.

Vardy had a top notch legal team - I can't imagine they didn't advise her this was a massive exercise in self harm.

whynotwhatknot · 29/07/2022 13:01

Abirdnest · 29/07/2022 12:44

@whynotwhatknot or just removed Vardy as a follower when she got an inkling she wasn’t trustworthy?

I mean, I agree Vardy doesn’t seem the pleasantest but Rooney knew what would happen in terms of abuse and threats to not only RV but her husband and kids too. There was no need for the huge drama. Embarrassing.

she had an inkling but no proof you cant blame her for trolls and stupid idiots threatening vardy

savethebeesandthecees · 29/07/2022 13:02

unicormb · 29/07/2022 12:22

I cannot stop laughing. Honestly, these idiots having their bun fight while the rest of the country struggles to feed their kids. Fuck them both.

You could use that argument about anything. Comparatively, everyone in the UK is way better off than most of the world but we ask for refunds, complain about service etc all the time.

So if you can feed yourself and have a roof, you can't complain about anything?

Gazelda · 29/07/2022 13:03

I'm thrilled Vardy lost. It would have felt a moral injustice if she had won.
I hope she stays out of the public eye forever more.

I do hope that Caroline Watt is being supported. While it's apparent she was complicit in the leaks, she couldn't have known the storm she would be swept up into. And I doubt she has the millions behind her that Vardy does to help make life more comfortable while she rebuilds herself.

user34632 · 29/07/2022 12:17

Good correct decision. A lot of people have been calling both of them for carrying this on. I think that's it's unfair on Colleen who actually had no choice as she was being sued.

This was pointed out a million times on the other threads but still gets ignored by sanctimonious idiots trying to prove how above all of this they are

bollygu · 29/07/2022 13:09

@Fluffymule they did

GetOffTheRoof · 29/07/2022 13:20

I understand it very well @LetHimHaveIt and think that the legal personnel on her team would have done far better to maintain their professional reputation and withdraw themselves from the case altogether when she refused to negotiate the out of court settlement.

bloodybluemoon · 29/07/2022 13:25

Good for Colleen, Vardy sounds vile. I don't know why vardy went ahead with suing Colleen when this would have been all forgotten about by now and not to mention she has to cough up £££££££. Stupid being.

The solicitors and barristers were instructed by Vardy on the matter and sometimes there's no advising stupid. You cannot refuse to take instructions, all you can do is give a structured legal opinion and if they wish to proceed on that basis that's what you do . . .

HastaLaBisto · 29/07/2022 13:31

Smart of Colleen to use her press release to acknowledge the queasy cost of all this farrago at a time when people are struggling financially. I'd imagine any damages will be swiftly and loudly donated to charity.

Why? That's their job. If a client is stupid and won't take advice that's the client's problem not the legal professions 🙄

mumda · 29/07/2022 13:33

Which is which?

35965a · 29/07/2022 13:34

Glad Vardy lost, the judge’s summing up is quite brutal, they basically didn’t believe anything Vardy said. Rightly.

workshy46 · 29/07/2022 13:36

Coleen tried to settle multiple times, that is well documented. Vardy wouldn't settle so she had no choice but to defend herself in court.

Oh, don't talk rot. The fact that Rooney offered to settle four times suggests she and her legal team weren't quite as confident as, er, you, that she'd win: clearly, they didn't think her case was an 'absolute joke'. Indeed, Vardy won the first stage when it was made abundantly clear to Rooney that she'd fired her shot across the bows by identifying Vardy and Vardy alone as the source of the leak, and would have to now stand by that.

And the idea that Vardy's lawyers were worried about their 'professional reputation'! Hilarious. That's not what's meant by 'professionally embarrassed', ffs. They're defamation lawyers; they know the score. It's a shit-show. One person wins; the other loses. Not bad odds. They might well have wished Vardy was a more attractive character, but the hundreds of thousands she gave them will have gone some way to deodorise that stench . . .

Infinsplititive · 29/07/2022 13:39

@HastaLaBisto there are no damages, Rooney was the defendant. She’ll be awarded costs only.

Don't bamboozle her with logic. It's like having to start explaining the 'cab rank' rule to people at parties when they ask why you defend nonces . . . 🙄

Penguintears · 29/07/2022 13:43

I'm a lawyer and have had plenty of idiotic clients. You can't refuse to do your job just because your client is stupid. That's not how it works.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 29/07/2022 13:43

I’m right behind Colleen on this one.

Someone else wanted their day in the sun.

Someone else should probably accept the verdict and shut their beak henceforth.

How could she possibly have won? She sank herself as soon as she went into the witness box, and arguably before.

Highfivemum · 29/07/2022 14:35

She lost the minute she opened her mouth.

Im pleased Colleen won, as from what was reported it was clear she was correct in her insta post.

However, Im unsure why lots of people are piling on saying that they should have settled outside of court so not to spend all the money on solicitor fees etc. Dont disagree, but what exactly was Colleen supposed to do?

She was being sued for saying something she was convinced was true (as has now been proven) and 'settling' with Vardy outside of court would surely have involved an apology or something which to be honest if I was her I wouldn't have done either.

Just want to know how others think she should have settled before court when she believed she was right?

But she apparently made several attempts to settle, it was Vardy who wouldn't. She couldn't force a settlement on her.

Why would she get damages? She was the one being sued.
