Most middle class family holiday destination? (just for fun!)

I haven't spotted a middle class thread all week so thought I'd start one just for fun 😜
In your opinion what are the most middle class or umc holiday spots?
Summer:
Any part of France (extra posh if you have friends or family who have a house to put you & the kids up in!)
Italian Lakes
Greek Islands

Winter
Barbados or similar Caribbean Island
Skiing in the Austrian, Swiss or French Akps (wealthiest go to Switzerland)
Christmas markets

This is just for fun & based on the wealthier middle class families I know! They all seem to go to the same places!

Dubai would be a very brief connection en route to somewhere else more exotic and niche. UMC would have Emirates business lounge access, they’re side eyeing the pretentious faux new moneys who all sat downstairs on the A380 and also the tacky Uber riche who paid stupid money to sit in 1st in those awful gold and wood cabins, most of whom are heading to luggage collection so clearly DBX was the destination, no doubt The Palm or Jumeirah? 😏🤮

FlissyPaps · 21/07/2022 22:36

UK:
Salcombe
Abersoch
Lake District
Cotswolds
Edinburgh (city break)

International:
South of France
Seychelles
Caribbean
Maldives (Although becoming very “new money”)

Abersoch? Really? Changed a bit from when my mum and dad used to take me for cheap n cheerful bnb hols in the 60s.

Yep…. It’s millionaires row.

moofolk · 21/07/2022 22:40

@moofolk I went glamping IN the Eden Project!
Switzerland via train
Renting a quirky camper to go the Highlands
Toledo
Ironic stay in Blackpool
Inter-railing
Scandinavia- bonus points for by the lake
Camping in the Netherlands which everyone loves and it has absolutely nothing to do with the fact that they all speak brilliant English so we can be lazy
Costa Rica yoga retreat
Seattle

Ha was going to say glamping in the Eden Project but it felt to middle class to be true!

I bet it's lush though.

F*cking West Wittering. They come down in their droves, clogging up the single road down to Witterings. There are tons of lovely beaches but no, it must be WW 🙄

Yep. I have cousins in WW……. Bloody grockless (unless the grockles are us of course!)

I was just going to mention this - it’s basically Butlins for the Middle Class! Climbing Snowdonia seems to be the latest MC pursuit and it’s something I would like to do except that l would take the little train up. How about St. Ives, Clovelly, Broadstairs, Whitstable and Durdle Door?

It’s Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) not Snowdonia (Yr Eryi)… Snowdonia’s the National Park

JazzyBBG · 21/07/2022 22:42

This list is so funny. I do wonder how Dubai is still an aspirational thing holiday wise - it's so bloody boring and false.

Haven't seen Maldives or Seychelles mentioned?! Wondering if there is a difference in perception on these now as one is more accessible.

Also in UK I think it's not even about the place so much as often individual hotels in some places that have a real MC stronghold eg-

Torquay WC, The Osborne MC
Woolacombe ?, Saunton Sands MC

NanaNelly · 21/07/2022 20:31

Honestly. It’s not.

I’ve lived in North Pembs and we were paupers at the time.

Ot for the locals though

MrsMontyD · 21/07/2022 22:44

I took DD to Cornwall a few years ago, we'd been to Cornwall many times before but this time went by train and rented a holiday apartment. The train once we were in "the south" was packed with women with lots of Boden clad children, loads of them, all off to Cornwall for the summer (one group I gathered had booked a house to share between three families and another group had all booked apartments in the same house) their husbands were all busy in the city and suchlike (lots of discussion about the husbands) and due to join them at the weekends. It was like a whole different world, compared to our usual experience of taking two weeks off work and going by car to stay at a holiday park.

JazzyBBG · 21/07/2022 22:45

Also just Cornwall.
Seems to be the latest obsession with Midlands MC. They moved further south from Devon and Wales when they couldn't fly ;)

Louise0701 · 21/07/2022 22:45

Dubai has got to be the least MC place ever 😂

I think I would rather not holiday than go there and I live for holidays. I’m not even MC 😂

Gwenhwyfar · 21/07/2022 22:46

"Ot for the locals though"

The locals have probably been priced out.

HereWeGoAgainorBust · 21/07/2022 22:46

Meanwhile a considerable rise in food bank usage around the country. It does show the disparity in the country and the growing gap. If only all families could eat and heat a tax rise or adjustment for that tiny important thing surely?

Abersoch. I think half of Cheshire decamps there each summer. Grin

Cheshire-On-Sea.

Sorry, of course it is. It’s been a long day for me, evidently.

okayigetyou · 21/07/2022 22:50

Traveller 1:
Often travels to see more than is often marketed/popular, can travel to experience differences poverty
Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, in South Africa - a stop in Johannesburg, Port
Elizabeth , Wild Coast and the in-land
USA: Idaho and music concert in NYC
Summer in Cuba - museums
Honduras - Spanish lessons

Traveller 2:
Often travels to see different countries, sun and read good book at beach, they complain about anything different to the UK.
South Africa = Kruger National Park and Cape Town
Ski - France/Austria/Switzerland
Summer in Mexico - Cabo

Traveller 3:
Newly acquired money. Often not bothered what their new neighbour thinks about their destination choices. Their money is not often inherited, so proud to afford travel.
Dubai - because they want to experience what everyone on social media is raving about
Ibiza - party, sun and beach
Florida - party, sun and beach
Brazil - beach and sun

Oh, it wouldn't be MN without slagging off working class new money. Not all new money is as tasteless as made out.

Earlymenopausesucks · 21/07/2022 22:53

Reading this list I fear I am holidaying in the wrong places 🤣. In the last 12 months we have been to Mykonos, Cornwall for two weeks each plus weekends in Aviemore, Edinburgh and Bruges.
We found a real mix of people everywhere.

Charlize43 · 21/07/2022 22:53

Dubai? Isn't that where reality tv z listers go to become prozzies & porta potties?

I would have thought that middle class at all!

RampantIvy · 21/07/2022 22:54

We had a holiday in North Norfolk earlier this year, staying in Burnham Market. We visited all the places @SuperCamp mentioned except Blakeney as we went there last time we were in Norfolk.

Burnham Market is indeed full of Hooray Henrys. Ours was the most modest car in the car park, most of them being Range Rovers with personalised number plates. There was a Bentley and a couple of Porsches, then our Honda Civic Grin

gogohmm · 21/07/2022 22:55

Oh dear I'm going to the south of france then onto the Italian lakes, I'm going to the Caribbean in the winter and been U.K. new York - think I have my badge

NRRK28 · 21/07/2022 22:57

i always wandering what is middle class. What household income can be in middle class group?.

i dont consider myself a middle class. But i’m from indonesia so every year st summer i go to indonesia or any other part of asia with my family. In winter usually only in england

coolernow · 21/07/2022 22:58

Not all new money is as tasteless as made out.

I don't understand the whole new money is bad, is it because old money generally has less cash these days? 😆

newtb · 21/07/2022 22:59

Also shocked about Abersoch, I'd have said Treaddur, but maybe that's a bit old-fashioned.
