Most middle class family holiday destination? (just for fun!)

I haven't spotted a middle class thread all week so thought I'd start one just for fun 😜
In your opinion what are the most middle class or umc holiday spots?
Summer:
Any part of France (extra posh if you have friends or family who have a house to put you & the kids up in!)
Italian Lakes
Greek Islands

Winter
Barbados or similar Caribbean Island
Skiing in the Austrian, Swiss or French Akps (wealthiest go to Switzerland)
Christmas markets

This is just for fun & based on the wealthier middle class families I know! They all seem to go to the same places!

I think Puglia is more MC these days than Tuscany. (Chiantishire. Oh no, sooo overdone, darling)

user1486915549 · 21/07/2022 22:09

North Norfolk in the cottage your family have owned since the 1930s
similar U.K. places too , but it’s the one I know about
Dubai is So not middle class

Overthebow · 21/07/2022 22:12

I wouldn’t say everywhere in France. A holiday in Brittany definitely isn’t mc.

South of France, Italian lakes, Sicily, Sardinia, some Caribbean islands, the Azores, Cape Verde, the nicer parts of the Canary Islands

Nearby Elie is overrun in the summer with Boden wearing tousle headed Hamishes and Anguses,or gangs of students hiring beach houses for a week( paid for by mummy and daddy).
I only know one upper class family( through work) and one upper middle and they seem to holiday in Croatia,Corfu,Vietnam, skiing in Italy

Shodan · 21/07/2022 22:13

Hmm. Most recently we've done:

A touring holiday in France.
Montecatini, Italy.
Mid and North Wales.
Lake Bled.
Austria (in summer).

I think they're all quite MC.

But every now and then we 'let the side down' in joyous and abandoned fashion and go to Disney World ( as we are doing this year).

You couldn't pay me to go to Centre Parcs though.

dementedma · 21/07/2022 22:14

Oooh and not forgetting the obligatory camper van doing the N500

ClassSize2022 · 21/07/2022 22:14

A few amongst our mc/UMC crowd:

Île de Ré
la Rochelle
Annecy
Antibes
North Yorkshire
East Coast of US
Scotland
Devon
Italian Lakes
Canada

SmallSoupcon · 21/07/2022 22:17

F*cking West Wittering. They come down in their droves, clogging up the single road down to Witterings. There are tons of lovely beaches but no, it must be WW 🙄

Tellhimno · 21/07/2022 22:17

The Isle of Wight hasn't been mentioned.
Cumbria
The Highlands
France losing its place due to the pet passport Brexit fiasco

RomainingCalm · 21/07/2022 22:20

Do Featherdown Farms still exist? That was by far the most wholesome, MC weekend ever.

coolernow · 21/07/2022 22:21

@SmallSoupcon I love WW, the parking system makes it far less stressful.

coolernow · 21/07/2022 22:21

but yes I feel for residents along the long single route.

Tablechairtable · 21/07/2022 22:25

Megabit I also came in here to say Salcombe. Mary Berry used to holiday there as a child as a good example.

Dubai

Ooo no, I'd say definitely not Dubai.

The Dordogne
Provence
Some of the smaller Greek islands eg Paxos
North Norfolk
Southwold
Walberswick
Lundy

ilovesushi · 21/07/2022 22:27

Cornwall

Decidualcast · 21/07/2022 22:29

Oman
Socotra (adventurous types)
Provence
Isle of Mull
NYC for a long weekend
Corsica
Azores
Argentina with a trip to Uruguay

WombatChocolate · 21/07/2022 22:29

Anywhere that you can take your sailing dinghy or kayaks. Definitely not a jet ski.

rumporolypolyofthebailey · 21/07/2022 22:29

Hiking lavadas in Madeira and staying at Reids Palace (good enough for Churchill)

Offandonagain · 21/07/2022 22:30

I kind of disagree with the lake district being a mc destination. Particularly since covid it seems to attract lager louts who can’t tidy up after themselves.

Also Bowness has always been chav central!!

LimboLass · 21/07/2022 22:31

haha Dubai?

Chav central.

Why is France regarded as a middle class holiday destination?

Because there aren’t many package/all-inclusive holidays in France! Lots of people put off by the idea you might have to actually speak some of the language and get around by yourself! At least I think this is why my WC PILs don’t go 😂

Justfortherandomquestions · 21/07/2022 20:49

@MobLife @SuperCamp yes yes to Wowo in East Sussex. So funny it's been mentioned a couple of times- it's probably the most middle class campsite on earth!

Had never heard of it and it is so close to our village!! Googled it and the regulations for staying there are hilarious!

Violinist64 · 21/07/2022 22:33

Skoolsout · 21/07/2022 18:46

Has anyone mentioned Centre Parcs? That’s got to be in the list.

I was just going to mention this - it’s basically Butlins for the Middle Class! Climbing Snowdonia seems to be the latest MC pursuit and it’s something I would like to do except that l would take the little train up. How about St. Ives, Clovelly, Broadstairs, Whitstable and Durdle Door?

Foldingchair · 21/07/2022 22:34

I don't think the Greek Islands I go to are mc.
Cornwall.
Definitely France.
Unlike a pp, I thought Brittany used to be v mc. At least, all the books I read as a kid had people going there.

Isn't it basically mc to pretend that you don't go on holiday to sit on a beach, swim in the sea and eat all the food?
