Has anyone had this issue with Evri? 🤔

So I’ve ordered a pair of trainers from JD with the expected delivery date being the 19th (next Tuesday.) Unfortunately I didn’t actually realise the courier was Evri, which is just Hermes rebranded because of its’ horrendous reputation.

The last email I got was from Evri saying they’ve received my trainers from JD. I got no text this morning and as far as I’m aware I wasn’t expecting it to be delivered today - but I’d expect a text if it was meant to be delivered. I then get another email telling me that my parcel’s been delayed and they’ll update me when it’s out for delivery.

I’m only anxious because I’d like to know exactly what this “delay” is and I know how unreliable Hermes are. It doesn’t say anything else and there’s no human you can speak to on a contact number or customer service line - just an automated chat with a robot that tells me the little information I already know.

I was wondering if any of you have experienced this and if it was all okay? I’ve emailed JD to let them know what’s going on. Just feel uneasy about it! I find it a bit suspicious that they received my parcel one minute and then suddenly there’s a delay.

They update a lot through the process so don't worry too much. Are your account settings for email oe sms updates or both? For example my last order was
1 We've got your (shop) order
2 There's been a delay and we'll let you know when it's been dispatched
3 We'll deliver your order on (date)
4 on the day: your order is with your courier
5 Your courier will deliver your (shop) order between hr and hr
6 your order has been delivered
Basically every time a barcode is scanned at a different location you're being copied in automatically.
I'd rather have more than less info considering their rep for losing stuff!

They use local couriers who use their own cars - I’ve had one or two delayed messages in the past and just assumed it’s because the courier hasn’t managed to finish the round for the day or his car has broken down or he’s had to pick his kid up early from school or something! They’ve usually turned up the day after.

DinosaursEatMan · 15/07/2022 19:58

They do update a lot but generally deliver as originally planned. And they are actually very good around here, appreciate we are lucky!

Sierra1961 · 15/07/2022 20:05

@MenaiMna @Heroicallyl0st @DinosaursEatMan ahhh thank you so much, you’ve made me feel so must better 😂 hopefully it comes shortly!

The last update I had was “We're sorry, your parcel has been delayed. We'll update tracking as soon as your parcel is out for delivery.” Fingers crossed 🤞🏽

I have had the we’ve been delayed a few times with different outcomes. 1 came the same day as expected, 1 the day after. 1 was plants which arrived dead 5 days later than expected and 1 got lost, I got a refund from the company as it was then sold out and 3 months (!) later it turned up on my doorstep. Sorry that’s unhelpful to you but honestly it means anything in Hermes/Evri world.

FlySwimmer · 15/07/2022 20:15

I’ve found recently that when my parcel has reached the ‘out for delivery’ stage, I then get an update saying it’s delayed - but then it arrives that day anyway?!

Tuesday this week, for example, my parcel updated to say it was out for delivery at 0930, no delivery time window. Then at 0932, an update saying ‘your parcel has been delayed, we’ll aim to deliver tomorrow’. Then the parcel arrived in the afternoon of Tuesday anyway?! Can’t really figure it out, it’s not the first time it’s happened. Thankfully our local guys are generally good so it doesn’t stress me out too much that it seems a bit all over the place. Assuming it’s just general Hermes Evri crappiness.

liveforsummer · 15/07/2022 20:32

I made the mistake of diverting a couple of parcels to local pick up shop as I was away when they were due to be delivered- big mistake they are now missing in action with no update and the shop is literally around the corner from my house so could easily have just gone with the originally planned courier. Annoyingly the one I missed was left on my doorstep (which they never normally do, if I though they would I'd have never diverted it). The reason I did divert it was because it was things I needed asap so didn't want to miss it

liveforsummer · 19/07/2022 11:20

@Sierra1961 did you receive your parcel in the end? 6 days later and nothing for me. I tried chasing it up via the robot chat however it let me make an equity for one parcel but not the other. Now after all this time had the delayed email for the one it let me escalate. No word for the other

Bluevelvetsofa · 19/07/2022 11:25

We ordered something due to be delivered by Saturday. It’s at the depot and has been since Friday. Tracking just isn’t updated.

Same happened to me and I used the online chat with Evri on Sunday to try and resolve this but have heard nothing since then, despite leaving it with them 'going off to investigate and calling me with an update' and the second Evri courier seems to have given up trying to deliver it (I'm on round 3 of attempted deliveries with 2 couriers for long and complicated reasons that I had nearly finished describing before MN had a moment and lost my post).

I've had to go out and buy locally as couldn't wait any longer but I still have a parcel floating around the Evri system that I've paid for and still want as it's batteries for the cat flap and it goes through loads because the cats sit in front of it making it open and close repeatedly thus flattening the batteries.

Ihatethenewlook · 19/07/2022 11:44

Yes! I paid £8 to have a pair of trainers from JD delivered on Sunday. They’re still not here and they were for a birthday yesterday! 😡 I also didn’t realise evri was Hermes. I’ve also messaged JD but had no response

Sartre · 19/07/2022 11:47

I’ve had the delay message a few times and it’s always been delivered the following day. My guess is something happened to the couriers van/car, they couldn’t finish their rounds or an emergency situation happened. Who knows, they’re only human.

My parcels have never made it to the courier unfortunately. The one that did that I missed diverting to shop arrived in good time on Friday to my doorstep

Sierra1961 · 19/07/2022 13:53

@liveforsummer mine has come, fingers crossed for you that yours does! 🤞🏽

Furious! This was our holiday clothes. How could they fail to deliver it to the parcel shop, not like they were out and aren't they supposed to make 3 attempts anyway 🙄

Has anyone had this issue with Evri? 🤔
Bluevelvetsofa · 20/07/2022 18:44

We still haven’t got ours and DH has raised a complaint with the supplier. It was en route to the courier on Thursday, then the order is with the courier, then there’s a delay, then nothing at all,

liveforsummer · 20/07/2022 20:00

Mine has never made it to the courier according to the tracking, then amazingly despite that attempted delivery tonight (despite parcel shop being delivery address) and now being returned. Called supplier who did not have the retune notice and could still only see it sitting at depot since last Thursday. They told me they'd send me a code for free express shipping so I could re order, but have not 🙄

userxx · 23/07/2022 07:59

Bastard Hermes. Not had an update in 3 days and am pretty sure it's been lost. Does anyone know how to contact them ?

BarbaraofSeville · 23/07/2022 08:10

I found that the chat function on the website appears to be the only way to interact with them.

However, my parcel that I ordered around a month ago and has mostly been floating around their system has gone off radar. The last response from Evri was on Tues/Weds this week that I had to give them a few days to get it to a local courier for the third fucking time to deliver.

Radar silence since then means that I need to get back to them and wherever I ordered it from.

liveforsummer · 23/07/2022 08:59

If you find the chat function and answer a certain way to the robot they may or may not let you raise an investigation with an actual human. (one parcel let me and the other didn't). The parcel that didn't did actually turn up 6 days late. The missing parcel has supposedly been returned to the retailer but the retailer doesn't have it. In the mean time I've reordered the items again, paid for next day delivery so should have arrived yesterday. Was out for delivery with the courier which is further than the last one for but surprise - still not here! 😡

liveforsummer · 23/07/2022 09:00

Radar silence since then means that I need to get back to them and wherever I ordered it from.

If there is a case open they won't let you re contact them. You just get a message saying it's been looked in to. As it's been a month you may get a better outcome from the retailer

Nolongera · 23/07/2022 09:14

Try to think of using Evri/Hermes as a form of gambling, makes it a bit more exciting.

They are the worst because they are the cheapest, the people doing the delivering only get pennies per delivery so have to really graft.

I always try to help out our local guy as he has so much on, I wouldn't want his job.

liveforsummer · 23/07/2022 09:29

If they were the cheapest I wish retailers would give you an option to pay more to not use them. It's normally an unpleasant surprise after you've paid so hard to boycott. Actually a shop I used yesterday did actually do that -

X amount for next day (using dpd as they know next day doesn't mean such for Hermes)

X amount standard delivery Hermes

One pound more than Hermes for standards dpd delivery

I used the next day but would happily pay the £1 more for dpd. Always comes when it says. Has a tracker so you can see where the van is, what number drop they are on, what number drop you are so the estimated time exactly to get to you as well as your 1 hour window. That way you know whether it's safe to pop out (or indeed whether to bother waiting in at all if Hermes/Evri were to offer this service).

OnaBegonia · 23/07/2022 09:31

@Ihatethenewlook
Hermes couriers are contracted to work Mon-Sat, Sundays are covered by PT drivers and not all routes go out on a Sunday, also only about 40% of retailers ship for a Sunday delivery, don't rely on Sunday delivery.
Also, to the PP diverting to shops etc that does cause a delay as often it's not your local courier who does this, far better off having a safe place ie your shed, garage, a covered crate in garden etc

I thought that what the extra money was for. I’ve paid almost double for Sunday delivery so it should have been delivered imo.
