Why isn’t he just kicked out 🙄?

I don't know much about his mental state, but he behaved like a yob.

In some ways he greatly reminded me of the young John McEnroe, who swore and ranted his way around many of the world class tennis tournaments.. That isn't intended to be a compliment.

He was nothing like Macenroe!

Inkanta · 10/07/2022 20:34

Very unsettling watching him shout and blame his people in the box and the way they they have to stand between points - to please him. Abusive men look like him.

I missed that, they have to stand, why?

Inkanta · 10/07/2022 20:50

His box have to be on their feet clapping after each point - Andrew Castle said he expected them to do that - and also said he was "needy"!

He has a charismatic, funny and little boy lost appeal about him but that shouting and blaming everyone else is not good. Worse than McEnroe.

BMW6 · 10/07/2022 21:45

I was thinking he has some sort of mental disability. McEnroe was just a bad tempered wanker. This is something else I think. Very odd.

Darbs76 · 10/07/2022 21:48

He was relatively mild for him. A few days ago he was terrible, he’s incredibly rude to the umpires and other staff. Don’t know how he gets away with it constantly and then jokes about it

FiveGoMadInDorset · 10/07/2022 21:54

IglesiasPiggl · 10/07/2022 16:45

Not watching as we're out at the moment - are the commentators fawning over him and minimising his behaviour again?

TV ones were, Five Live were not and questioning why he wasn’t being penalised and apologising for the swearing

GCAcademic · 10/07/2022 22:02

The thing that I found most odd is that he was sweetness and light the second the match was over. It was like someone had flicked a switch.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/07/2022 22:39

Sue Barker's comment about his unique brand of tennis really pissed me off. Everyone always gets rewarded for bad behaviour it seems, right from the classroom to Wimbledon 🙄

SirChenjins · 10/07/2022 22:43

Far too many excuses made for this a-hole. I hope he’s found guilty when he appears in court soon and that his GF finds the strength to leave him - her poor parents must be horrified.

Even if he’s innocent?

tobee · 11/07/2022 04:00

I didn't see the match but I thought they had set ways of dealing with this? Or is it at the umpire's discretion? Surely it should have been dealt with way earlier in the tournament? Fining someone who earns that amount of money is pretty useless . Losing points in a game is more of a deterrent.

Dustyblue · 11/07/2022 04:26

Oh my goodness, so much armchair psychology about his mental state. Truly people, what do any of us know?

As a side note- I take it not many posters here have been to a final at the Australian Open? You do hear a few swears.

Kyrgios certainly has form for bad behaviour- I believe there was a prior Wimbledon where he refused to shake his opponent's hand... believe me, most of Australia cringed in embarrassment. SUCH poor form.

I do think he's evolving though. He was a gracious loser for example.

People under tremendous pressure can lash out, it's not surprising (and I too laughed at the 700 drinks comment).

GingerScallop · 11/07/2022 04:34

I think Nick K is what toxic masculinity looks like. And the way we simply dismiss it as bad boy behaviour is why it continues in so many men. No one it tennis goes on and on and is abusive like him. And I agree with other poster. A woman player wouldn't get away with this. He even boasts he doesn't care about fines because he makes millions and the fine is loose change. I still remember when at the net he told his opponent "I f*** your girlfriend". it was caught by cameras and everyone who held it knew who she was . A young tennis player. He does have talent butt he is not a half decent human. And am so over toxic behaviours being excused because someone has talent. Especially in men

He is an abusive toxic man. I felt awful watching him, having Survived an abusive relationship. Excruciating watching his family being so distressed by his abuse. Standing up to order on his humiliating screaming. His father tapping his heart in distress. His sister looking agonised. Awful awful man.

Dustyblue · 11/07/2022 05:03

@SpangledShambles I'm sorry to hear that. You're right, in that you shouldn't need to have that reminder simply by watching the tennis.

I see some of this differently, but I respect your experience and your opinion.

Byronalso · 11/07/2022 05:27

Anyone who’s been in a relationship or lived in a house with a abusive man would’ve found yesterday excruciating.

There was a part where he was glaring at his box, shaking his head and muttering to himself which was worse for me than the actual shouting.

he’s a typical angry man - frustrated and anxious which turns outwards to everyone around
him who constantly have to try and work out what they’ve done now to piss him off

SummerPuddings · 11/07/2022 05:36

Questionaboutjoboffer · 10/07/2022 16:11

Anything and everything - shouting and the umpire, shouting at people in the audience. He comes across as abusive - why is it laughed off?

Very!

SummerPuddings · 11/07/2022 05:38

dropthevipers · 10/07/2022 16:22

Think he is properly mentally ill.

The ranting did seem that way.

SummerPuddings · 11/07/2022 05:41

TheMushroom · 10/07/2022 16:51

If I was his girlfriend there in that box, I’d just get up and leave.

Totally. But apparently he's banckrolling his family. Could that be one of the reasons he thinks it's ok to behave that way. No one in his life challenges his behaviour?

SummerPuddings · 11/07/2022 05:44

Sinister

Benjispruce4 · 11/07/2022 06:00

i hope he watches the match back. The rants at his box were humiliating to them. I was rooting for him to win at the start as he was the underdog and I get tired of the same 3 winning. He also seemed to be behaving at first. Well done to the umpire- so calm. I think the officials need to issue him with a warning that he won’t be accepted if this continues.

Benjispruce4 · 11/07/2022 06:01

@GCAcademic yes that was weird.

Yes exactly.
