PM4PM is like a tourist video, I presume she knows her audience though, I can well imagine the communities that this goes down well in.

my eyebrow almost met the nape of my neck over the footage of a white and black hand shaking being accompanied by the audio of ‘giving others opportunities’. Ah yes, the benevolent grandfather empire ‘allowing’ people of colour to have a good go at trying to be as good as us.

But again, I’m not really the audience at this time.

Yes, that part was grating. Using Jo Cox was just awful too.

LOL

Somebody in the comments says 'Who else is here because of the Penny Mordaunt video?'

GrinGrin

balalake · 10/07/2022 15:48

So Penny Morduant cannot do the basic detail of checking who is in a video. Oscar Pistorius is not exactly someone whose crime is unknown.

So it seems we are left only with one candidate who I'd trust, Sajid Javid, one who would be overpromoted (Rishi Sunak) and others who for one reason or another have made themselves unsuitable.

DowningStreetParty · 10/07/2022 16:34

Wow.. is he sure….? Esther McVey? Seriously? She’s totally z list. Why would anyone pick her?

tobee · 10/07/2022 16:36

Yes and like a real z lister, she thinks she's totally A list ConfusedGrin

Why doesn't he just follow Sir Keir's example and announce that he will resign if he is found guilty?

Lia Nici repeating misogynist comments about Angela Rayner. Newly promoted to levelling up minister by Boris Johnson despite promising he would unleash the "terrors of the earth" on the original source behind these comments

DowningStreetParty · 10/07/2022 20:45

Lia Nici MP... Her comments are outrageous. She’s a government Minister and the way she’s talking about Angela Rayner.. completed unacceptable.

I love Naz Shah MP for her brilliant response. Various tweets here: mobile.twitter.com/NazShahBfd

BBC have the clip of the video of Lia Nici and Naz Shah brilliantly responding: www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-62113335

Another day, Another email to the Standards Commissioner to be drafted. It’s grotesque.

I haven’t even read the articles on all the financial irregularities yet. It’s just a constant, depressing onslaught of sleaze at the moment. Never had less confidence in a government in my life.

Cornettoninja · 10/07/2022 20:48

It’s fascinating watching the depths they’ll sink to pick off their own. They’ve turned the cannons on their own HQ.

Surely those in the running anticipate needing the skills of their colleagues if they win?

(yes I know that this happens with leadership campaigns of any colour but this one already seems quite fraught),

DuncinToffee · 10/07/2022 20:53

Desperate and pathetic from Nici, but the Tories know what a woman is

Yes to a constant onslaught of sleaze

tobee · 10/07/2022 21:01

I wonder if the Tories will ever get back to being more centrist? I think they still can't get over the shock of ukip and the failure of Cameron and the coalition. Johnson of course decided to steer the party that way when, arguably, with the majority he had he could have been welcoming of all sides. Considering it was all about him and his mandate Hmm

Not sure if the Tories have become more broad church since Corbyn and momentum. Of course, Corbyn was always a leftist. The populism he had was foist upon him. I don't think he was ever really expecting it.

DowningStreetParty · 10/07/2022 21:08

Everyone knows what a woman is though. That sexist madness of pretending we don’t ‘see’ biological sex is not going to sustain as zeitgeist in any political party for much longer, precisely because the more the public are lied to, the more we will value free speech and truthfulness.

I really couldn’t give a shit about anyone’s clothes, names, or appearance, but I completely draw the line at lying.

Humans can’t ever change sex and pretending they do disadvantages women and risks their safety, dignity, health and wellbeing in ways that men will never be able to understand or experience. .

And this is more important than anything else to you?

Strange.

But then, I have never voted based on s single issue.

I recognise other people have, including those who voted for BJ's 'even ready' Brexit deal that still isn't resolved...

tobee · 10/07/2022 21:33

None of that makes any sense

Runnerbeansflower · 10/07/2022 21:42

I assume that @DowningStreetParty is one of the posters on Mumsnet where their view on the issue of transgender people over rides every other issue, including workers rights, personal and political integrity, the economy, taxation, Ukraine, the UK's relationship with the EU etc etc

It's fairly niche, but very 'loud' on mum6

Notonthestairs · 10/07/2022 21:57

This blog epitomises why Equality Act protection is so important to, objectively, the most vulnerable group … women with severe learning disabilities who rely on single sex provision for intimate care. They deserve the highest levels of dignity and safety

twitter.com/audreysuffolk/status/1546189746614984704?s=21&t=ul58sjRXknISTg2o_fxqEA

I don't think it's a niche issue. It overlaps a number of key areas. Maybe if you don't come in to contact with disabled women & girls you may be able to dismiss it out of hand.

Of course that doesn't mean other issues are unimportant. But I do expect - insist in fact - that I am able to protect my daughter.

DuncinToffee · 10/07/2022 21:57
Hmm

here’s a little mystery involving HMRC insisting only two weeks ago that it wasn’t investigating any ministers over their tax affairs

It's niche in the eyes of Twitter and a certain age demographic. In the real world however...

I was responding to a topical line from DuncinToffee, saying:
Desperate and pathetic from Nici, but the Tories know what a woman is

Apologies to Duncin for assuming your position, but I read that as a slant at the single-issue voters in Mumsnet who have been taken in by the Tories’ recently-declared ‘War on Woke’.
Which seems to involve pretty much overnight, Tories signalling from far above a culture war and set of practical issues that is actually badly affecting women and girls, that the Tory party ‘know what a woman is’. When in fact:

A) key figures in the Tory party actively pretend not to know what a woman is, and would presumably put in sexist policies based on that if they could: (Penny Mordaunt, Crispin Blunt, Caroline Noakes, etc -just search these names in Mumsnet and you can read all about their stated views and actions). Unfortunately these sexist anti-woman views are shared by MPs in each of the major parties.

and B) unique to the Tories, their moral responsibility in government to do something about this has been shrugged off. The Tories haven’t helped women on this issue legislatively once. Despite being in office since the coalition government of 2010 and current ‘massive mandate’. Hmm

The Tories pushed the GRA reform further into the future because they saw how divisive it is. That’s literally been it. Even though the status quo that they left unchanged, is arguably one of the roots of the current problems. So nothing has changed under the Tories.

DowningStreetParty · 11/07/2022 08:00

Women’s and girls’ safety, privacy, dignity and single-sex spaces, opportunities and sports are still as vulnerable to gender identity-led policies from public bodies and private businesses, as much they ever were because of Tory self-interest and inaction.

The only legal gains to protect freedom of belief and speech at work, and protection of children against gender identity politics-led experimentation have been made in the courts, by individual women being crowd-funded by women- Maya Forstater; Keira Bell. All of the Parliamentary parties including the Tories have done fuck all. Yet this Tory government want to claim they are woman-friendly based on this inaction.

I believe that the few posters on MN who have said that at least ‘Boris knows what a woman is’ and that they will then vote Conservative on a single-issue basis have been hoodwinked by a cynical ploy. Everyone knows what a woman is. We all do. Whatever our politics. Some people individually gain something from pretending they don’t know, and selling women out, though. That’s it.

To deserve even single-issue votes on the basis of ‘knowing what a woman is’, the Tories would need have done something significant to help women legislatively. And they haven’t, as many far more informed posters than me have said many times on here.

Zonder · 11/07/2022 08:06

Thanks for this @DowningStreetParty spot on.
