If that is the case I wonder who Wallace will back. His support will carry a bit weight with the membership.
No doubt deals being struck as I type.

Random question - but do Leadership contenders have financial backing from Tory donors and do we get to see the accounts?

There will be costs to running a campaign. So who pays for it?

Good question

Private donations, personal wealth?

Reminder what Sunak, man of the people, said in 2001

Rishi Sunak(2001) - "I have friends who are aristocrats, I have friends who are upper class, I have friends who are you know working-class... well not working-class..."

Many people are saying they are (rightly) concerned about what havoc Boris will cause before he finally 'goes'. Well he's already doing judging by some of the appointments he has made over the last few days. I give you Peter Bone.

How many barrels did Boris go through before he scraped the bottom of the one containing that odious creature? And is Bone too thick to realise that he's only been appointed his latest post purely because Boris is so desperate?

And heard he's been appointed in a role that's been recreated an not existed for a few years?

Deputy something or other?

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2022 13:42

Bone is not thick, he gets paid handsomely for his loyalty. Payrise with his new role and 3 months severance pay when the next PM fires him.

Notonthestairs · 09/07/2022 13:48

Andrea Jenkyns has responded. It's not apologetic but will play well with some.

Tory MPs and Tory members get to pick a new leader.

But do their politics reflect the country's politics. In their echo chambers and circles, their new leader might seem to be just what they want.

But the public will have different views.

I wonder if a pupil tried that apology in class - how far would that get?

Excellent point.

They won't endorse someone like Tugenhat because he's more centric.

Yet I think he'd be better for the party than most of the others pushed forward.

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2022 15:04

So apparently Sunaks election website was registered 6 months ago!!!

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 15:08

Sunak knew that Boris Johnson wouldn't last I suppose so he made the film early..
shitty behavior, but when your boss is Boris Johnson you learn from him and his behavior and feather your own nest.
Doesn't surprise me really but politics is cut throat.

tobee · 09/07/2022 15:12

Someone I know just picked up a decent amount after betting at the start of the year that Sunak would resign before the end of the year. Thought it was nailed on.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 15:20

The film was a bit bizarre , it seemed as if it was made for an international audience rather than just for the Brits / 1922 committee.
Do they all make little videos like this usually ? ( they may well do, but I can't remember seeing any like this)

How are those who voted for Johnson because he is racist going to cope with Sunak, who doesn't even want to live in this country?

A source at Number 10 tells me that Boris Johnson intends to stand down as Prime Minister on Monday, in order to run for the Tory leadership.

Shock Shock Shock

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 15:39

No! It wouldn't surprise me though !! 😂
Boris Johnson has a lot of support from lbc callers and people I know too.
They would be delighted if he came back to be honest ( not that his ever left really !)

itsgettingweird · 09/07/2022 15:39

I called that 2 days ago.

Keep up Patronella Wink

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 15:41

Is this true?
It wouldn't surprise me though. Who would support him ? Nadine ? She is running herself isn't she ?
Jacob definitely would too

DuncinToffee · 09/07/2022 15:41

Best for Britain just tweeted this

If Johnson successfully argues that he didn't actually 'resign' he is, under current Conservative party rules, able to stand in this upcoming leadership election.

Have we just been conned AGAIN?

Which was a reaction to Chris Bryant's tweet

I’ve said several times now that Johnson didn’t resign. He indicated he will. But he hasn’t. Unless someone can show me a resignation letter…

Roussette · 09/07/2022 15:44

And is Bone too thick to realise that he's only been appointed his latest post purely because Boris is so desperate?

It's worse than that. His post has been sort of retired, no one in it since 2018. So it's not needed.
This is an appointment purely to reward loyalty. No other reason. Like peerages for donors and such like

BoreOfWhabylon · 09/07/2022 15:44

Senior Sky journo on LBC now discussing this. He says Johnson may not have ised the words ‘I resign’ he did in fact do so.

the80sweregreat · 09/07/2022 15:45

If it wasn't so serious I would be laughing about this .. the word resign wasn't in that speech !
You only need to read daily Mail comments and listen to lbc to know that people would actually support it too because nobody likes any of the others much : extraordinary times ay? If it's true
