That BBC report says Chequers has “hundreds of acres of lawns”. Really?

CredibilityProblem · 08/07/2022 13:52

The Chequers Estate is flipping enormous, but I'm not sure it's all "lawns" exactly.

Yes I think it’s grounds in general. I was thinking of the mowing.

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 14:05

At least grounds staff don't have to clean a tree house

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 14:13

Glad they are finding it funny Hmm

Mark Jenkinson announcing his bid for leadership

I have sought counsel from those I can trust to blow smoke up my arse 💨

That, when weighed against my own inflated sense of self-importance, leads me to conclude that I should throw my hat 🎩into the ring and stand for election as Leader of the @Conservative and Unionist Party

CredibilityProblem · 08/07/2022 14:25

At this point my top priority is getting him out before he overtakes he overtakes Theresa May's time as PM. So within the month I think.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 14:46

I had no idea who mark Jenkinson was so I looked him up… he certainly projects a character doesn’t he? UKIP affiliations showing in his Farage-like ‘straight talking’ 🙄

Take it he’s planning on jumping ship then?

BlackTourmaline · 08/07/2022 15:26

Is Priti evil still Home Secretary? I hope she gets booted out

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 15:44

Brutal but fair..

Another resignation

Stephen Greenhalgh, Building Safety minister resigns.

Peregrina · 08/07/2022 15:58

Starmer and Rayner cleared over "beergate" meeting

Where is the apology from Clavinova - who now looks to have been a little bit foolish with her Sir Beer Starmer jibes. This in the week when Big Dog is being hauled off to the Vet to be put to sleep. This was not supposed to be how the script played out.

I would love it if the Mail was prosecuted for wasting Police time.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 15:58

Yes Patel is still in situ (for now).

That chart! Shock

I had a quick look on Twitter to see the reaction from Johnson fans - it struck me that, like him, they don't do details (different rules at different times) and they blame everyone else (the police/Durham MP/lawyers).

I read something yesterday about Johnson hanging on because of the peerages he promised people.

I

Doesn't he get to dole out honours on leaving anyway? Didn't Theresa May give the long held off knighthood to girlfriend beater Geoffrey Boycott?

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 16:41

Ah yes, the resignation honours, that could have been what is was about.

Two former Chief Whip's, Mark Harper and Mark Baker are supporting Sunak for PM

Has Sunak sorted his wife's no dom tax affairs?

Mark Spencer not Baker

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 16:45

And Laura Trott

Ready for Rishi Confused

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 16:51

I know this isn't the Brexit thread but here is a really good thread from Peter Foster about Johnson's dishonesty and Brexit legacy.

It also touches on how it's limited options for Sunak & Starmer - we can't move forward without an honest discussion and that won't happen for fear of riling Brexiteers.

Sour grapes from Richard Holden, the one who wrote to Durham Police to reopen the investigation

Odd comment, but I wasn't expecting much in the way of logic.

The potentially illegal part was being in the same room without good reason.

What they ate or drank while in the same room is irrelevant.

Runnerbeansflower · 08/07/2022 17:03

I.e. birthday party (refreshment choice irrelevant), not necessary for work reasons = illegal.

Work meeting (refreshment choice irrelevant) = legal.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 17:03

Ever graceful in defeat!

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 17:08

Richard Holden clearly didn’t watch the part of BJ’s 1922 when he admitted there was a problem with the drinking culture in the tories.

Not something I’d be drawing attention to myself. Glass houses and stones don’t mix I hear.

Igotjelly · 08/07/2022 17:36

Well fuck me, poll on Sky News showing lots of young conservatives would like to see Steve Baker as PM. That’s nothing short than a terrifying thought.
