The Conservatives will absolutely try and spin the new leader as a fresh start.

From what I've read the members are more right wing than many of the MPs and will choose a Brexiteer so almost certainly someone who fully endorsed Johnson's antics.

We are at grave risk of much more of the same - maybe even worse as they try to cement relationships with donors.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:18

I shouldn't call them donors - really they are just sponsors.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:22

"Having thought about this overnight, I've come to the conclusion that I don't trust the Conservative party to get rid of him
How can someone who has resigned from the position of leader of the party be leading a country? Any country really but especially the UK which is supposedly a strong democracy."

Agree. I know Cameron & May waited in Downing Street but the circumstances were different. They weren't kicked out for lying and perpetual scandals.

We shouldn't be led by a man who can't lie straight in bed and who isn't trusted by how own MPs.

Will Quince is one of many - zero integrity, just following whichever path gets them further up the hierarchy. How they can accept positions from a man they've publicly denounced as a liar I'll never understand. Shameless.

I'm actually glad quince is back. He's one of the few ministers who has actually done some good in education and takes the send crisis seriously.

He seems to have good morals and I believe when he walked it was genuinely sue to these and he's back out of loyalty to the cause.

This is an official Tory leaflet for council by election

'Fresh start ' is a Labour saying now.
To me it conjures up marketing a new washing powder or stain remover though.
Plus we all know that whoever takes over or whatever happens in the next few weeks there won't be anything fresh about it because there is too much shit already heading our way :(

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:33

@itsgettingweird - that's interesting about Quince. Why do you think that? (Genuinely interested)

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:43

Sorry- I've realised you've already pretty much answered my question in your post Itsgettingweird!

He wrote this when appointed and has actually been out and listened.

I'm not going to pretend great change has happened yet but he genuinely believes it should and is working for the cause.

I think he's one of those who generally kept his head beneath the parapet doing what's right and got wheeled out as no one above was willing to anymore. And for thrown to the wolves and under the bus.

He is part of a government that has consistently cut services for the very people he is claiming to want to help. If there was the funding for the services there was in 2010 there would be no need for the review.

Did he oppose the cuts to funding and services?

It is a good letter. I think I am just (perhaps unfairly in this instance) cynical - provision in my area is overwhelmed. We had to wait years for a place - mainstream did they very best so I'm not knocking them.
Now DD's SN school has had to squeeze in more children for less money so class sizes have had to increase. Experienced staff are being moved about.
I honestly don't know know how they hold it all together.

I don't think you are cynical.
You are looking at what is going on in the real world and the actions the government has taken, rather than listening to their words.

You're not cynical.

My own ds is disabled and has an EHCP.

But this was last year. There is a massive send reviews happening currently so action is being taken. We haven't seen change yet but I do believe Quince wants to see it.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 12:34

KS and AR haven’t been fined according to LBC

Well I'd like to think that's the end of Beergate but no doubt the Mail will start digging through the bins of the Durham Constabulary and wailing 😭

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 12:39

I was kind of hoping for two new main leaders…. KS has fought a valiant fight but I think there are better people in the shadow cabinet to take labour forward.

Thank fuck that's sorted.

I hope that bouys Labour in confidence to go didnt he VONC as they now don't have this hanging over them as a sticking point.

I can't wait for what those who think Johnson's FPN dined party was ok because "but Keirs beer" will say Grin

CredibilityProblem · 08/07/2022 12:43

Hardly surprising. As the former DPP, Starmer is one of the most qualified criminal legal minds in the country. If he was happy to stake his career on there being no case for prosecution then it would be shocking if he'd been wrong.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 12:44

I didn’t realise Prince Harry had won his court case against the DM. Not a good week for them.

Some bullshit about Durham PCC being in Starmer's pocket etc etc.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 12:52

Despite Cummings getting off when it was clearly in the tories favour at the time…

guinnessguzzler · 08/07/2022 10:14

Is that because there is no longer a marriage to celebrate?

I'm no fan of Carrie J but this sort of comment is just tasteless. Along with comments about appearance and BJ's relationship with his children. One charmer even suggested that BJ smelt of piss. Not exactly high class political debate. I'm glad that we will have a new PM. Let's hope they choose someone decent.

Not much of an argument as the Met are being investigated for their corruption and evasions really is not?!

But I'm sure the next sound bite will be

Owwwew but Durham police.
