Might be enough numbers for Labour to win a VONC ? Plus the 1922 committee would really want to avoid this because it then triggers a General election of its lost by the tories. I think that is right ?
Plus we still don't know about the fines for Keir Starmer and Angela Raynor either , so if they go then everyone is without a leader !
Not seen the news today though.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 09:12

Absolutely @Cedilla. Covid revealed exactly what a poor leader he actually is, not least because he can’t take advice that doesn’t match the conclusion he’s come to himself.

it also struck me today when reading the DM’s analysis of leader candidates that they listed ‘voted remain’ ‘voted remain but now claims they got it wrong’ that BJ could be described as pro-EU and then changing his mind (the two articles he wrote to cover all bases before he nailed his colours to the mast).

It’s also amusing to see his most ardent supporters slating the media and journalists - Boris Johnson embodies the media, that’s his background and who he is. He’s exactly the same as those being blamed for his poor reputation.

The important big decisions like which woman (did you know he knows what a woman is?) today.

Be careful now of your eyes. Yes, Boris certainly knows what a woman is:

Big decisions meh.

Complete farce of jan21 lockdown. He was told this was needed and it was clear numbers were rising towards the new year. So what does he do? Ignore advice, let all the kids mingle at school for ONE DAY and then lockdown. Stroke of genius that decision.

Decide to spaff 25 billion or whatever the mind bending figure was to give to a mate for test and trace that didn’t actually work. Hey ho.

And the Paterson debacle. Mate breaks the rules- let’s just change the rules to suit my mate. Astoundingly good callConfused

Lets face it, it was the very fact he got the big decisions wrong, certainly these last few months, that has led to him going.

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 09:53

He didn't even get his oven ready brexit deal right, another case of crossing their fingers and hope nobody is forensic.

And now we have to suffer the consequences of all his shit. And that of the ones who defended him to the hilt and now think they can bid for leadership.

They are still willing to break international law, get rid of our human rights etc.

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 10:01

As reported by @MrHarryCole , PM's wedding party will now not be held at Chequers. A Government source said "nothing had been 100% firmed up" and an alternative location will now be used.

Is the taxpayer still paying for it?

Is that because there is no longer a marriage to celebrate?

I don't want to think about anything relating to Boris being "firmed up" 🤢

Yes it's the human rights and breaking law that are most concerning.

They've managed to sneak all this in whilst allowing this debacle to distract from it.

This morning I've woken up wondering if that's what Johnson was used for by the party?

They can Chuck him out there, he can cause scandal and distract and they know being a narcissist he'll continue to fight to remain in power.

Now they've no use for him. Not least because they are through but because now has become the point it's clear he'll also loose them the next election.

Cornettoninja · 08/07/2022 10:26

Yes, I’m quite interested in how it’s being paid for considering BJ was pleading personal poverty not too long ago and had to get someone else to pay for his wallpaper/holiday. Don’t think he managed to get Carrie a big bucks job either.

back on the point of ‘big calls’, even the ones highlighted aren’t really at the point you could be confident of being right. Brexit and the GFA rumble on, the pandemic isn’t over, the cost of living continues in an unstable situation. Bit early to start waving them around as ‘successes’. Let’s see where we are in five/ten/fifteen years eh?

the80sweregreat · 08/07/2022 10:27

Firmed up!
It would be a bit of a liberty if they had the wedding party at Chequers really considering he has resigned. (The non resignation granted, but even so)
Was it on this thread that there was a rumour going around that Boris Johnson had a vasectomy and not a sinus operation the other month? I understand why they would want to keep that private though to be fair.

It is so worrying when a tweet can go out by a prospective PM and it be so so so wrong. I just don't understand it. I knew the situation about the Japan ex PM and how he was hanging on in there... it is just appalling, and something like that would make me think straightaway, he is NOT the man for the job.
Sloppy, lazy, ill informed

To be fair, Shinzo Abe would have been dead at the time that Zahawi tweeted and Zahawi would have known that - the Japanese announcement was in coded language.

Still a big error of judgement to tweet that at that time.

Even if he was aware of Abe's death, he should have waited for the official announcement.

It was careless and disrespectful

Piggywaspushed · 08/07/2022 10:48

Isn't Cleverly in fact famously not?

vera99 · 08/07/2022 10:50

Pincher was appropriately named Cleverley not.

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:00

I'd imagine a Tory donor, perhaps still waiting on confirmation of a knighthood, would offer up a country pad to cement the deal.

I hope the Covid inquiry lays bare how Johnson pinballed around making decisions, the delays in taking action and where the money went. The findings of Privileges Committee Johnson's knowledge of parties in Downing Street & subsequent lies to Parliament should also be interesting.

There are almost certainly scandals yet to be revealed - it's important that the Conservatives don't get to bury them and wash their hands of Johnson whilst they choose a new leader.

Regardless of whether Zahawi had already been informed of Abe's death the Tweet should have been triple checked.

WaitroseWoman · 08/07/2022 11:06

Re £1million a year Chequers: this confirms it, and now being widely reported. Perhaps the leaked £200k invoice helped it on its way:

^^This. And this is what they will attempt to do. They will try and distance themselves from BJ whilst forgetting they enabled and lauded him for a very long time. We will not forget.

Look at Will Quince, resigned because of being wheeled out to tell Pincher lies. Les than 24 hours later taking a Cabinet position that BJ asked him to do.
You couldn't make it up.

They need to make the most of it, once there's a new PM, they'll probably be out

DuncinToffee · 08/07/2022 11:09

I read something yesterday about Johnson hanging on because of the peerages he promised people.

I

Notonthestairs · 08/07/2022 11:12

Will Quince is one of many - zero integrity, just following whichever path gets them further up the hierarchy. How they can accept positions from a man they've publicly denounced as a liar I'll never understand. Shameless.

L1ttledrummergirl · 08/07/2022 11:14

Having thought about this overnight, I've come to the conclusion that I don't trust the Conservative party to get rid of him
How can someone who has resigned from the position of leader of the party be leading a country? Any country really but especially the UK which is supposedly a strong democracy.

The situation stinks and he needs to leave ASAP, anything less is a betrayal of the British people by the conservative party

(At times like this I wish I was better with words)

Do these people get so used to ritual humiliation that it no longer has any impact on them?
