I listened to Womens Hour on R4 on way back from dentist. Ye gods, we've got a problem. The number of women texting in about how wonderful BJ was, how he'd been picked on, how the whole lot of his party should go because they've betrayed the most wonderful PM there has ever been.
I nearly crashed the car!

Various surveys do sow women are more likely to vote Conservative, largely because of 'family values' (even though their overall values are more liberal than men's, they vote Tory if they see those values in the Tory party, which is why they moved stance on eg gay marriage). They also show women are most angry with the whole Party etc ting , so the ones phoning in are the hard core of the hardcore, as it were.

It's incredibly depressing. I can imagine they were around my age as well

Johnson has to go today. The end.

Raab can't be caretaker. It would be an unfair advantage in a leadership race.

Don't hate me too much but I'd like May (or someone similar) to go back in as caretaker whilst the Tory candidates slug it out.

Much as I would enjoy the Tories being stupid enough to elect a leader with a wafer thin constituency majority that he stands a very good chance of losing at the next GE, they're not that stupid. It won't be Raab regardless of whether he does a stint as caretaker or not.

Beth Rigby saying there have been suggestions of Theresa May as caretaker PM. I would think that will totally blow his tiny mind.

Honestly I think it’s a great move - presumably no interest in the leadership contest, experienced, not a raving maniac…. That’s pretty good for a Tory in 2022.

Yes I agree. I hadn't thought of it but when she said it I thought yes, she would be a safe pair of hands for now. Plus blowing his tiny mind.

Wouldn't they just find him a safe seat for the next election if they want him, or her.

Agreed it is about as good as we can hope for.
Even accepting she made an utter mess at the Home Office in her time- hostile envrionment.

ancientgran · 07/07/2022 11:26

Benny Hill music now accompanying interviews.

Igotjelly · 07/07/2022 11:28

Full Cabinet has been agreed with the queen apparently. Should expect an announcement soon.

the80sweregreat · 07/07/2022 11:29

Rou, I do keep saying it on here but a lot of people do like him. My own dh for one
Colleagues , friends , family
It's surreal , but he is popular with ' Joe public' despite it all.

He has a scary hold over woman.

Rinoachicken · 07/07/2022 11:32

We have a Cabinet…for now…how long they will stay is another thing entirely.

Hes not exactly know for his humility. They will have been appointed in the hope they can ‘contain’ him for the summer. But if he still behaves as if he’s in charge and he’s got this mandate blah de blah BS vomit etc - they may throw in the towel as well

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 11:32

scary and unfathomable

Rinoachicken · 07/07/2022 11:33

Can’t help by think of Putin wanted to make a ‘move’ - now would be the time, when everyone is looking the other way

Cornettoninja · 07/07/2022 11:36

Hang on, didn’t they do something with turning up the power on the large hadron collider the other day? Maybe it’s correcting whatever it fucked up in our timeline the first time.

In fairness I can't imagine that Biden et al are particularly distracted by Boris' nonsense.

Rinoachicken · 07/07/2022 11:39

Ooooo Starmer saying if they allow him to stay over summer they will bring a vote of no confidence in the commons

DuncinToffee · 07/07/2022 11:40

Many people seem to be drawn to showman characters, probably because they say and do the things these people want to but can't without consequences.

Rinoachicken · 07/07/2022 11:40

He’s live on BBC now - Saying having found him unfit for be PM they can’t now inflict him in the country for another few months. They either get rid of him immediately or he will call a VoNC in the public interest.

Rinoachicken · 07/07/2022 11:41

He was asked if that just risked uniting the Tories and he said ‘I don’t think ANYTHING can unite them at the moment!’ 🤣

tobee · 07/07/2022 11:43

Looking forward to seeing the sky news ticker going backwards as ministers unresign

BBCBreaking news:
Johnson has appointed a new full cabinet.

David Henig AT DavidHenigUK
You don't resign and make new appointments at the same time. Johnson is playing the Conservative Party, still trying desperately to survive. Are they able to deal with him?

THIS!

The farce is going to continue.

ClaudineClare · 07/07/2022 11:44

Is the Benny Hill music down to Steve Bray😂
