What supermarket brands are nicer than big brand items?

With food prices going up I'm swapping brands for supermarket own brands.
Heinz salad cream for lidl batts brand and can't taste the difference but tried cheerios for Lidl multigrain hoops and no one liked them.
So any good cheaper swaps?

We switched from Ocado to Waitrose delivery and the Waitrose essentials range is excellent. Just a good as branded stiff. We buy lots from that range ( ketchup, beans etc.).

MoodyTwo · 06/07/2022 08:11

Smart price chocolate, so nice !!

PleaseYourselfandEatTheCrusts · 19/07/2022 16:03

Lidl's own make Mars Bars

HappyMaltesers · 19/07/2022 16:30

Jaffa cakes... the cheaper the better!

greywinds · 19/07/2022 16:31

Yes came along to vote for Waitrose essentials ketchup! And their washing up liquid. I do get a fair bit of essentials.

User639921 · 19/07/2022 16:36

Another vote for Waitrose essentials, especially the ketchup

FourTeaFallOut · 19/07/2022 16:38

Lidl's not-cornettos are better than branded Cornettos.

sellthesizzle · 19/07/2022 16:59

Sainsburys tomato ketchup - way nicer than Heinz with more tomatoes per 100grams.

sellthesizzle · 19/07/2022 16:59

Aldi feta and halloumi just as nice as more expensive brands

Jibberty · 19/07/2022 17:01

Lidl Tunnocks wafer bars. Lidl premium ice cream (B&J/Haagen Daas copy).

nca · 19/07/2022 17:01

Lidl fake magnums are awesome

Rosewaterblossom · 19/07/2022 17:02

Baked beans. Most of the cheaper brands are nicer than heinz imo.

Orange juice, lidl own make is the best as is their oven chips.

LadyEloise1 · 19/07/2022 17:03

Tesco "mars" bars are nicer than the original.

Echobelly · 19/07/2022 17:04

Sainsbury's cheapest-ass own vodka is actually really nice.

stuntbubbles · 19/07/2022 17:04

Sainsbury’s ketchup, it’s got that “spicy, Polish shop ketchup” vibe. It’s literally perfect and not sweet like Heinz.

They also do a reasonable faux Supernoodle.

Marmite27 · 19/07/2022 17:05

I was given a cold can of lilt at work today. Aldi’s knock off version I’d much nicer. So is their Fanta.

caringcarer · 19/07/2022 17:06

Morrisons decaff teabags. I won't tolerate any other ones. If I go to.my sons I take some with me as he has PG Tips.

MadeleineBassettHound · 19/07/2022 17:07

Waitrose organic muesli is much nicer than any other muesli because they don't feel the need to put a load of shit in it like kumquats or whatever.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 19/07/2022 17:11

Aldi ketchup
Aldi Norpak (Lurpak)
M&S golden farmhouse bread
Aldi 'best' sausages
Tesco 'Pure' filtred milk, not seen it for years now though?
Sainsbury's own brand Cinnamon Buns cereal

chiffchaffchiff · 19/07/2022 17:17

Sainsburys own brand pesto (not taste the difference) in the fridge fridge section is the best pre-made pesto I've had. I buy a few when it's on offer and freeze it.

legophoenix · 19/07/2022 17:18

Another vote for Sainsburys ketchup. When I now taste Heinz I find it overly sweet.

Aldi Caramelised Biscuit ice creams on a stick are waaaay nicer than Lotus branded ones.

RagamuffinCat · 19/07/2022 17:29

M&S baked beans are lovely. I much prefer them to Heinz.

Inmyownlittlecorner · 19/07/2022 17:32

Sainsburys own nobbly bobblys!

Favouritefruits · 19/07/2022 17:33

M&S ketchup is cheaper and much nice than Heinz.

NightmareSlashDelightful · 19/07/2022 17:34

Morrisons teabags are pretty good, especially the ‘best ever’ ones.

And Morrisons fresh fish is usually excellent.

Waitrose dark chocolate is lovely. The 180g bars, either 54% or 70% (both quite different, both really nice).

Sainsbos do a kalamata olive sourdough (I think) loaf from their fresh bakery, it’s really nice and often only £1.
