What supermarket brands are nicer than big brand items?

With food prices going up I'm swapping brands for supermarket own brands.
Heinz salad cream for lidl batts brand and can't taste the difference but tried cheerios for Lidl multigrain hoops and no one liked them.
So any good cheaper swaps?

Where do you reckon is best for fruit and veg items? I've bought lidl strawberries, they were ok but wondering if anyone had views?

M&S hands down - far superior to any other shop

CockadoodleDoosPooh · 22/07/2022 17:57

Any waitrose essentials
Polish mayonnaise from sainsburys
Aldi hobnobs
Sainsburys own brand crisps

Squiff70 · 22/07/2022 18:00

Asda Choco Snaps are WAY better than Coco Pops.

Bluecatsforever · 22/07/2022 18:05

Sainsburys own Cornetos and Choco Ice blocks, also super instant Noodles.

KoalaPineapple · 22/07/2022 18:09

Aldi biscuits 👌 digestives in particular!

TheSummerPalace · 22/07/2022 21:18

Asda’s own brand Cornettos - mango and passionfruit! Best ever imo!

buckeejit · 22/07/2022 21:30

@chiffchaffchiff have you tried lidl fresh pesto? Better than M&S

brighteyesburninglikefire · 22/07/2022 21:34

Waitrose essentials are amazing quality.

brighteyesburninglikefire · 22/07/2022 21:35

Plus, if you do an on,use shop, and the item is not in stock in the essentials range, it will be replaced by the more expensive choice at no extra cost.

Co-op dark chocolate. Only £1 for a large bar, and much nicer than more expensive varieties.

PlanetNormal · 22/07/2022 21:42

All of Lidl’s W5 cleaning products are excellent. No point buying brands at all.

Lidl’s own brand Snickers are better than the real thing. All their chocolate is better than Cadbury’s for that matter.

M&S, by a mile, but they are twice the price of anywhere else, unfortunately.

greywinds · 22/07/2022 22:07

I totally agree with M&S, but also the prices! It's hard to find decent fruit in any of the others - just wondered if anyone had a different experience but seems not.

mydogisthebest · 23/07/2022 09:40

Posters so often talk about M&S prices being so high but I don't find that. Most of their fruit and veg match the prices in Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's. Some of it is actually cheaper than those supermarkets.

Lidl and Aldi may be cheaper but the quality there is pretty diabolical
