I reckon Pincher will stand down as MP before this week's PMQs. What do other people think the likely timescale will be?

cakeorwine · 04/07/2022 22:15

Looks like a safe Tory seat. But you never know nowadays

😖😨😱

Boris knows where the sofa is. And what it's for.

cakeorwine · 04/07/2022 22:20

Boris Johnson was made aware of a formal complaint about Chris Pincher's "inappropriate behaviour" while Mr Pincher was a Foreign Office minister from 2019-20, BBC News can reveal.
It triggered a disciplinary process that confirmed the MP's misconduct.
BBC News understands the PM and the foreign secretary at the time - Dominic Raab - knew about the issue.
The complaint raises fresh questions about what the PM knew before appointing the MP deputy chief whip.
On Monday evening, No 10 reiterated that the prime minister was not aware of any "specific allegations" being looked at, and that in the "absence of a formal complaint it would not be appropriate to stop the appointment".

They just keep making it worse for themselves

DowningStreetParty · 04/07/2022 22:23

Come off it, normal MPs who are the majority of MPs are not drinking in the day. They’re too busy doing their jobs like they should be. Let’s not tar them with the out-of-control minority of Tory MPs’ brush.

TokyoSushi · 04/07/2022 22:24

It's only a matter of time before he has to resign, but he doesn't seem much like a man inclined to do the right thing. Agree it'll have to be soon though.

cakeorwine · 04/07/2022 22:24

Maybe they did the "Rhodesia solution" as in Yes Minister.

So Johnson was told about the complaint in a way that he didn't become aware of it.

DowningStreetParty · 04/07/2022 22:29

I can completely believe that our current PM would want to be surrounded by people like Pincher who there is a lot of potential dirt on, so they can be controlled for votes and loyalty.
I bet we will never know the half of it!

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 22:36

^Boris Johnson's spokesman said today that it would not have been appropriate for the Prime Minister to stop Chris Pincher's appointment because there were no "formal complaints" against him.¡

Several hours later:

^Exclusive: Boris Johnson was made aware of a formal complaint about Chris Pincher's "inappropriate behaviour" while Mr Pincher was a Foreign Office minister from 2019-20, the BBC News can reveal.¡

Fabulous! And likely the sort of thing that happened 🙄

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 22:38

Johnson doesn't care as long as they lick his arse, world king of the pot plants

Peregrina · 04/07/2022 22:41

So how long before he actually resigns?

TokyoSushi · 04/07/2022 22:53

I'm going to go big or go home and say tomorrow @Peregrina

If not tomorrow then not for aaagggeeess under some caveat of 'ill health'

Not sure if this has been said. Caroline Nokes MP said he was pissed in HoC the day before the groping pissed again incident last week. She reported this. Nothing was done.

Cornettoninja · 04/07/2022 23:24

I reckon autumn, although I read a rumour that it was always his plan not to run for another GE and quit summer 2022 to cash in on the opportunities being an ex-PM affords. I don’t know how covid and recent events will affect that though, if it’s true then I imagined he wanted to leave as more of a hero than he currently is.

Well, as 211 conservative MPs have confidence in Johnsons leadership, showing they are happy with the current state of our government and where the party is being led, I for one have no problem tarring them all with the same brush.

This is just business as usual for them.

Who did she report it to? The Whips’ office? What a surprise that nothing was done then (to be clear, that is not a criticism of her).

Which is exactly why he should never have been appointed.

I hoped he’d limp off with “long covid” two years ago, but no he’s insisted on hanging on. I genuinely think he meant it about a third term and outdoing Thatcher.

Wonder when Carrie will decide she’s wrung as much out of this as she’s going to and moves on?

Booklover3 · 05/07/2022 01:04

They couldn’t organise themselves out of a paper bag…

dontcallmelen · 04/07/2022 17:04

Couldn’t agree more.

Same. It really pees me off. Why aren't they all in prison? They're wrecking the country.

Well one of those 211 is my MP and he was cheering like some schoolboy idiot at a playground fight when the VONC result was announced. Of course he has his own problems with drink and abusing Common's staff (and his constituents) so may also not be representative.

jgw1 · 05/07/2022 06:50

Did I just see a video of the crowd at that bastion of left wing values, Warwickshire County Cricket Club, singing Boris in an anchor?

She reported it to 'a very senior member of the party'. No idea who. But someone who is pissed in the middle of the afternoon in work, followed by a piss up the next day and groping male members of staff... has a big problem.

I don't suppose she could report it to the Whips' office which is why the Whip and Deputy Whip should be a very careful appointment.

A Cabinet source said defending the Prime Minister’s handling of the allegations against Mr Pincher was “soul destroying”, while a third said it was “a bit like getting punched in the face”
