She reported it to 'a very senior member of the party'. No idea who. But someone who is pissed in the middle of the afternoon in work, followed by a piss up the next day and groping male members of staff... has a big problem.

I don't suppose she could report it to the Whips' office which is why the Whip and Deputy Whip should be a very careful appointment.

A Cabinet source said defending the Prime Minister’s handling of the allegations against Mr Pincher was “soul destroying”, while a third said it was “a bit like getting punched in the face”

Do these cabinet sources not realise that by remaining in his government they are defending him and supporting each lie that he comes out with?

TokyoSushi · 05/07/2022 07:06

Oh! I thought you meant how long until Pincher resigns?! Johnson, goodness knows!

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2022 07:06

According to the Times (yes I know they have hardly shown themselves to be reliable!) there have been at least 13 allegations made about Pincher.

"A former minister attributed Johnson’s initial decision not to remove the whipp_ from Pincher to the prime minister’s wish to avoid a by-election in his Tamworth constituency.
“The problem was that Boris had been annoyed by Heaton-Harris over the handling of Neil Parish because he decided to suspend the whip immediately which led to a really damaging by-election,” they said.
“As a result they mismanaged Pincher by not acting fast enough. The political antennae are just not good enough.”
Doesn't seem a great of thought was given to Pinchers constituents or the safety & welfare of staff.

Would a teacher stay in position after 13 allegations? A doctor?

They are so busy desperately clinging to power they've dropped any pretence at standards. And that's the theme of Johnson's tenure - zero standards.

Raab knew about the proven 2018 allegations too.

Raab is supposed to be doing the media rounds this morning...

Roussette · 05/07/2022 07:18

The man (Pincher) obviously has a huge problem and by keeping him in post as an MP is a disgrace.

Emily Thornberry is on BBC, I am waiting for her to wipe the floor with this decision.

Personally I think he'll be gone by the end of the week and yet again the Tories will look venal, self serving, and amoral.

I am feeling increasingly sorry for Owen Paterson, what he got up to was really quite trivial compared to some of his Tory colleagues.

No wonder they were so keen to change the rules to protect him.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2022 07:34

Nah, Paterson pocketed half a million pounds whilst lobbying for Randox and Lynne's Food.
Government soaked in corruption.

^This, all day every day. Story after story. He’s never going to get the trust in his judgement or his personal morals back. The list is too long. Why are Conservative MPs still putting up with this?

Well yes, but in comparison to some of his colleagues he is an angel.
(He isn't, he has wierd views on almost everything, but relatively...).

The Conservative party was infiltrated at the last election by a selection of Trots. They had worked out that Oh Jeremy Corbyn would not win, so instead worked hard to get Boris elected in order that it would be the last Conservative government for many years.

Other theories are available, but they make less logical sense.

Raab squirming on BBC now

Slothtoes · 05/07/2022 07:48

No not buying that Jgw
Boris did this all on his own.

Roussette · 05/07/2022 07:52

This is what landed in Raab's lap this morning live as he's being interviewed. The truth is circling round.

So how long before he actually resigns?

Watch for hints that hell is freezing over.

Wow. Strident. Glad somebody is trying to shine a light.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2022 07:59

You know what this Government seem really good at? Taking a scandal and making it much much worse. Same with Paterson, Partygate, wallpaper, office relationships etc.

Roussette · 05/07/2022 08:00

So. We know BJ lied about knowing. His spokespeople lied about BJ knowing.

It has taken a senior Civil Servant Simon McDonald to blow the whistle and expose the lies. He has alerted the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards. Pincher lied to him back in 2019. And the lying continued, backed up by BJ and his arse lickers.

If this MP doesn't resign, we have a huge problem. I hope his local constituency sees him off.

Absolutely this.

So the issue we have now is that there is literally zero trust in him from most of the electorate so it'll be very hard for him to ever get anything right because no one will trust he did it truthfully or even legally.

A huge proportion of people will still follow him blindly but those numbers have decreased a lot over the past 2 years.

And a large number will still say "he's doing a good job - brexit - vaccines" but from conversations I've been having I've realised these are people who don't really have an understanding or in depth knowledge of politics and the actual goings on. Once in a while these were your biggest audience to get inside. But I no longer think this audience with the staunch far righters are by any means the largest proportion of the population anymore.

What I worry about though is the other parties are t stepping up and in and catching those who no longer want Tories or could be persuaded (see above group)

cakeorwine · 05/07/2022 08:00

Looks like Raab didn't ask Johnson about this.

I suppose if you don't ask someone, then they can't be accused of lying to you.

(Another tactic in Yes Prime Minister)

Absolutely. Most people don't follow politics. This is 'an echo chamber', a filter bubble - or an ampliifier. Most people just don't have such an interest in everyday politics.

Yes. And people really really don't like to admit that they were wrong. I know this from Brexit. There are people I know who 100% voted for Brexit on the day. They told me they had!
Now, they are saying they didn't vote for Brexit! They're embarrassed.
I know Johnson supporters who have gone very quiet. Even on here the cheerleaders have disappeared. They're embarrassed too. But will never ever admit it.

Notonthestairs · 05/07/2022 08:12

MacDonald is going to be interviewed on R4 now. Sadly I can't listen in.

Absolutely agree and that people don't like to reverse their position. Which is where the media comes in - because if the Telegraph etc start playing a different tune then people will follow w/o necessarily registering their own reversal.

I caught a little bit - “telling lies and crossing your fingers at the same time” is the strategy.
Chris Mason says “devastating”.
