I’d like to take credit but know myself well enough to know I’ve probably subconsciously pinched it off someone else!

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 10:54

Where do they find these people

David Goodhart(Policy Exchange) - "I have to admit I haven't really been following the Chris Pincher story... & part of me is inclined to say it's a great big fuss about not very much..."

Jo Coburn - Really!

¡Fleur Anderson - Sexual harassment should be called out everywhere..^

Roussette · 04/07/2022 11:42

Isn't it gobsmacking the number of MPs who say again and again on anything dodge 'I haven't been following this. Or. I didn't know about this. Or. I haven't read that. Or. I've been busy and I'm not up on this particular subject.'

And so on.
Like we'd believe that.

Cornettoninja · 04/07/2022 11:51

It winds me up @Roussette. DP tries the same thing when he’s caught out being a lazy bugger, like I’m meant to believe he’s a dim witted incompetent in one area only when all evidence points to him being a perfectly competent and functional adult who knows damn well what his responsibilities are.

slight tangent but you can see what I mean.

ClaudineClare · 04/07/2022 12:06

So basically Johnson is lying through his teeth again, or he is so incompetent that he doesn't even arrange for a perfunctory google search to check the suitability of people he appoints to senior roles.

Doesn't look good either way. But obviously he is lying. Where is he btw, hiding in another fridge?

I see the Tory Bots on Twitter are out on deflection duty, insisting Starmer has been given a FPN, but has taken out a superinjunction.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 12:14

It's all they have left, but whaaaat about Keir's beer, honest citizen here

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2022 12:28

"I see the Tory Bots on Twitter are out on deflection duty, insisting Starmer has been given a FPN, but has taken out a superinjunction."

This sounds desperate. Anything to corroborate it?

Apparently its due today, that’s from the DM

"NEW: No10 now admits that Boris Johnson WAS aware of complaints against Chris Pincher when he made him Deputy Chief Whip - but only those that had been “resolved or concluded”. Spokesman refuses to deny that PM made “Pincher by name and Pincher by nature” joke."

twitter.com/benkentish/status/1543918336370688001?s=21&t=kvrY55bU9Xn-Isbpcq-gbg

Because obviously it wasn't worth checking to see if there was anything else lurking.
Yeah right.

Notonthestairs · 04/07/2022 12:39

Ok thanks Cornetto. Nice bit of camouflage for Johnson fans whatever the result.

But It won't change the publics mind about Johnson.

Yeah right.

More from Beth Rigby

PM spokesperson also says the PM sought advice b4 appointing Pincher & says this: “At the time the PM was not aware of any specific allegations. In the absence of any formal complaint it wasn’t deemed appropriate to stop the appointment because of any unsubstantiated allegations”

Not aware is doing a lot of the heavy lifting again

Yeah right.

Hilarious.

No, that didn't happen
I know nothing about this
I am not aware of any specific allegation or complaint
Well... if it did happen, I had no knowledge of it
I understand something happened
What did happen was resolved and I was unaware of anything else.
I didn't make that Pincher joke
If I did joke about it, it was after the matter was 'resolved and concluded'

Rinse and repeat

#LiarJohnson

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 12:56

I think we have to remind ourselves of jgw1 wise words
"Boris is only in charge of tending to the pot plants"
Wink

vera99 · 04/07/2022 13:02

People still voted for Johnson, even though they knew he was shagging his assistant while his wife was fighting cancer. Literally shagging a woman 23 years his junior while his wife was getting surgery, chemo and radiotherapy. The morality of Tory voters disgusts me.

DuncinToffee · 04/07/2022 13:04

Adam Bienkov

So in summary Boris Johnson's govt has variously claimed:

  • He wasn't aware of "any allegations" against Chris Pincher
  • He wasn't aware of "specific allegations"
  • He wasn't aware of "serious specific allegations"
  • He was aware of specific allegations, but only unproven ones.^

Worth saying that allegations are, by their very nature, unproven. If they were already proven then they wouldn't be allegations.

It's partygate all over again.

My idle daydream today is that KS receives a FPN and his statement is

‘I apologise for my actions and undermining the British publics sacrifices due to covid 19. I would now like to draw a line under this episode and get back to working on behalf of my constituents and the Labour Party.

Lol! Obviously I’m going to render my resignation immediately unlike a certain prime minister who’s busy trying to bury the latest Tory scandal’

"I've not read anything about this story at all. However, I'm qualified to have an opinion on it. And it's all fine!"

Roussette · 04/07/2022 15:37

Johnson SO obviously knew this man's history. It's useful for him to have something on someone to control that person and thereby protect himself.

I wouldn't be surprised if this was the norm with this shitshow of a government. Kompromat.

It was Trumpy's MO

Cornettoninja · 04/07/2022 15:53

What gets me is they will have had a list of potential candidates for the deputy whip job and sat down and really thought about any potential issues each one might be carrying and Pincher was the best. They must’ve thought assigning him a minder would mitigate any issues - don’t know why, it didn’t work when BJ have his security the slip to go to a lebedev’s party.

Cornettoninja · 04/07/2022 16:59

Oh, so apparently he did know. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/chris-pincher-allegations-boris-johnson-b2115111.html?amp

must’ve got nervy about PMQ’s and how close to the wind he’d have to sail to not blatantly lie in parliament.

I think it was probably only down to Pincher's loyalty to Johnson. That's all the counts after all.
