MIL tattooed DS's name...

... We have just had a baby, 2 weeks ago, MIL immediately tattooed baby boys name on her arm.

However, we have since had a change of heart re the name... What a nightmare!

We didnt ask her to, or knew she was doing it, it's obviously really sweet of her to do it so that's not the problem it's more just now we dont want to call him that.

I feel awful! How on earth do we handle this? I'm really trying to talk myself into keeping the name, but it doesnt sit right...

Please let this be it. OP, you have to put us out of our misery and tell us the name!

My guess: Thor Head 😂

78 year olds don't wear twin sets anymore

Nobby?
Dick?
Clive?
Anil?
Hancock?

Maireas · 29/06/2022 18:28

Arsene.

Melsuleenia · 29/06/2022 18:29

What a daft bell-end.

Do not, I repeat DO NOT alter your child's name because some daft bint went off the mark.

Names are incredibly important. For all kinds of reasons.

Haha oh god i am aren't i!

I can see this on Gransnet
My DIL waited till I got my tattoo - and then changed my DGS name! What can I do??

jewishmum · 29/06/2022 18:32

If my MIL did that, I'd purposefully change the name of my baby.

RobertaFirmino · 29/06/2022 18:33

Why on earth is she having people's names tattooed anyway? Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier to just jot them down on a scrap of paper if you have trouble remembering them?

I expect the tattoo will bleed and fade into a navy, unintelligible mass within ten years anyhow so please try not to worry.

Of course they don’t…that’s why brora has gone bust 🤦🏻‍♀️

Holly60 · 29/06/2022 18:36

Buy her a puppy and call it that name?

Definitely change it but yes could you keep it as a middle name. If you are at least able to tell her you are doing it for her it might soften the blow.

I feel bad for her and for you too. You'll laugh about it in years to come

Melsuleenia · 29/06/2022 18:42

I was about to be called Mercedes by DF.

My 'DF' christened my doll, Cressida.

Highly amusing. Until I accessed the play by Shakespeare and the connotations within.

Bell-ends! They are everywhere! Be cautious. They are breeding. Eventually rocking up with tats of their grandchildren's names.

MargotChateau · 29/06/2022 19:06

My mother changed my name on my birth certificates 3 times. (It’s a clusterf**k when I renew my passport as occasionally they send a new one with the wrong name on it). And then I changed it again when I was 18.

Your mil would have to use both arms to fit all the name changes in if she was my mil 😂

Is it Dick or Johnson or something

I have a friend who could be Dick Johnson but he deliberately goes by Richard. Spoilsport Grin

To answer some questions, I've no fucking clue. She's very strange.

For a present, my friend made a collage photo frame of her son for her MIL. The MIL fucking hid it (and everything else related to her actual grandchild) when she invited not-her-grandchildren over so not to "upset" their mum.

Her son dated her when they were teenagers. They're in their mid-late 30s now...

She's not got a name beginning with C, has she?
my Aunty is similar with her eldest DS "P"

If not, then there are 2 of them. 🦇💩

LaPufalina · 29/06/2022 19:55

Thanks dog, enjoyed that Twitter thread!

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 29/06/2022 20:01

I see this as an egg and bacon sandwich situation here.

The chicken showed up. The pig made a commitment.

You know she has form for doing this. (Can't understand it myself, I hate tattoos, but nonetheless). You knew.

You need to swallow the name. But it's fine, he can have a nickname.

The poor woman in her own way wants to love and welcome her grandchild. So shoot her. 😄

HopeIsNotAStrategy · 29/06/2022 20:06

Spanielsarepainless · 29/06/2022 14:28

Just tell her. Then she can get 'Gary, previously known as Wayne' added.

I really like this suggestion. But you pay for it.

Herejustforthisone · 29/06/2022 21:01

Please don’t keep a name you don’t like just because your MIL got it tattooed. Please. Come on.

However, this is fucking hilarious.
