MIL tattooed DS's name...

... We have just had a baby, 2 weeks ago, MIL immediately tattooed baby boys name on her arm.

However, we have since had a change of heart re the name... What a nightmare!

We didnt ask her to, or knew she was doing it, it's obviously really sweet of her to do it so that's not the problem it's more just now we dont want to call him that.

I feel awful! How on earth do we handle this? I'm really trying to talk myself into keeping the name, but it doesnt sit right...

You should pay for her to have the tattoo removed, changed to the new name, or covered up with a tattoo of something else.

What!!! Don't be ridiculous

GoldenLightNights · 29/06/2022 15:08

Prepare to read this story again in the DM 😂😂😂😂

PoleFairy · 29/06/2022 15:08

Could you convince an in law to call their next child the name? Then she's ahead of the game.

This is very funny.

SleepSleepRaveAsleep · 29/06/2022 15:11

🤣🤣 what an idiot, who goes tattooing names on their arms anyway? It's her own silly fault. If you want to change it change it, you didn't tell her to have his name written on her, it's on her.

CountessOfSponheim · 29/06/2022 15:12

Can you persuade one of your DH's siblings to have another baby and use the name so the tattoo doesn't go to waste? 😁

LookItsMeAgain · 29/06/2022 15:15

Spanielsarepainless · 29/06/2022 14:28

Just tell her. Then she can get 'Gary, previously known as Wayne' added.

Or "The artist formerly known as..." 😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂😆 😂

Yes she has all her kids and gc's names already.

Its not massive but its right near her wrist, and has its own area, there's no mistaking its there!

I cant handle this level of awkward, I'm really not good with stuff like this.

Presumably your DH, her son, is on the same page with the name change? If so, his mum, his problem! Let him tell her.

catpoppet · 29/06/2022 15:16

offer to pay for laser treatment to remove it?

your DP should be the one to tell her, not you.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 29/06/2022 15:16

Her tattoo is near her wrist? How near?

Anyway. I’d keep with the name.

I’m sure it will make a lovely story to tell little Acab’s future girlfriends.

LookItsMeAgain · 29/06/2022 15:17

"The name absolutely doesn't work especially as my dd pointed out it sounds like a certain body part that is less than ideal."
You mean to say you went and called your son Wenus? And you MiL went and got a tattoo of that name on her wrist as well?????

ventreàterre · 29/06/2022 15:20

Yes, your DH should handle this one. If you're financially able to do so, it might be a nice gesture of goodwill to offer to pay a little something towards the removal. Not that you "should", but it might soften the blow. Next time, she'll know to give it some time before committing to a tattoo. 😬

MurderAtTheBeautyPageant · 29/06/2022 13:50

That's so funny!

Can I be there when you tell her you're changing his name? I'll bring some nice biscuits.

Count me in too - I’ll bring wine!

Spanielsarepainless · 29/06/2022 15:21

Also I am wondering about the body part involved with the original name. Billy Button, Tony Nail, Ed Case, Dick Head?

Princessoftheuniverse · 29/06/2022 15:21

Please tell us the name OP.

40somethingx · 29/06/2022 15:22

I cant go to sleep tonight now not knowing the name!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 29/06/2022 15:23

Could you write to Prince's granny and find out what she did?

EinsteinaGogo · 29/06/2022 15:27

Ah, poor mother in law.

I suppose it is quite unusual for people to change their baby's name once they've shared it with people.

DwightShrutesYFronts · 29/06/2022 15:28

I want to know what the name was. Was it Ballsack or Helmet or something?

ChagSameachDoreen · 29/06/2022 15:28

This is going to be picked up by the papers, I just know it.

pigsDOfly · 29/06/2022 15:29

There was a thread on here a few weeks ago in which the OP was furious about the fact that her MIL had had all her children's (OP's children) names tattooed on her leg, at least I think it was her leg.

I've never met anyone in my life who has had their grandchildren's names tattooed on them.

Seems it's something people do on a regular basis though. Very strange.

🤣🤣

Featherhands · 29/06/2022 15:30

I was the baby in this situation. Only it wasn't a tattoo it was a large announcement in the important at the time local paper.
The solution in the end was to saddle me with a first name I never actually use and no one else uses apart from my now dearly departed grandmother.
it really isn't my name. i would never look up if you shouted it across the street.

anyway that's the only real solution in this situation. child become tattoo name real name surname or real name tattoo name surname but she might find the second option a bit upsetting.

it'll be a hilarious story for years to come.

Dancingwithhyenas · 29/06/2022 15:39

This is too awful! I think I’d just not change the name to be honest 😬

RogersOrganismicProcess · 29/06/2022 15:39

I just don’t know who I am anymore, normally I’d abhor virtual rubbernecking but in this case I just can’t resist! It’s brilliant! a dreadful and unfortunate shame for granny. What can you do? Live stream her reaction
