Shall we have a Stranger Things S4 Vol2 prediction thread??

SPOILERS! OBVIOUSLY!

I've just finished Vol 1. I'm excited and impatient and I want to watch Vol. 2 now!

But as I can't, I'm theorising 😃.

Theory 1 - Eleven won't beat Vecna / the mind flayer (is he still about?? Unclear; when the kids were doing some of their own theorising plot exposition they talked about the Demogorgon being the Mind Flayer's foot soldiers, and so Vecna is the five star general - but they might not be right?) at the end of this season. I think this will be an 'Empire Strikes Back' style plot - Eleven will leave training too soon to go rescue her friends, she won't be strong enough, and therefore set up the final showdown in S5. I reckon they've exhausted the "there's a new threat from the upside down! Ok, Eleven has beaten it, end series" format at this point.

Theory 2: related to the above. She'll need to go find Eight, the other girl who escaped Hawkins Lab, and team up to beat Vecna / whatever else is in the upside down for good. Eight clearly has the same power to create hallucinations that Henry Creel / Vecna has, Eleven has the telekinesis power. Maybe they need both to finish him off?

Theory 3: also related to the above. Henry Creel is the father of all the kids from Hawkins Lab - they all get their powers from him. Don't think he would have been old enough to be a sperm donor type situation, so am thinking maybe a form of cloning? In the Eleven's mum backstory it was said she had volunteered for the experiments but not known she was pregnant, and that's how Eleven came to be. Makes sense for just one kid, but the lab flashbacks this season have shown loads of kids - there can't have been that many accidental pregnancies!

Theory 4: Dr Brenner was actually getting Eleven to look for Creel in the upside down in season 1, not the Demogorgon. He worked out that Eleven didn't just kill Creel, she blasted him into another dimension, but as Creel was the source of the superpowered kids, and he only had Eleven left, he needed to get Creel back.

Theory 5: Steve is going to die in Vol2. Possibly saving Nancy? The Dustin / Eddie friendship is being pushed hard in Vol1, I think because Eddie will replace Steve as Dustin's big bother type figure. Also, they've killed off a lot of side characters so far (Barb, Bob, Billy) I think its time someone from the core group took a hit.

What do you reckon??

We enjoyed it and have a ton of theories for season 5 but can't believe we have to wait so long!

I cried so many times.

Oh I thought season 4 was the last season??? But there’s a season 5?!

Yep. To wrap up anything they couldn’t cover in the billion hours of s4! I’m not sure when it’s due out though. You must have been confused thinking that was their ending 😂

I was 😂 I thought what a poo ending!
I am so happy there is a season 5. I wish I knew as I would have enjoyed the last episode. I was sad throughout as I thought it was the last episode ever. Ah well.
now I know it is isn’t…I loved it!

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 02/07/2022 23:59

I liked it. Am glad Steve survived! But am amazed they didn't kill off more characters - it feels like they didn't have the guts to do it.

It was a bit too happy for me to be honest! I'm not left on a cliff edge waiting for the final season.

@SirSamVimesCityWatch I don't think they can kill the main gang off - too popular. Feel like Nancy should have told Jonathan she actually loves Steve! Murray was hilarious with his fire.

Is Dr Brenner actually dead this time? Where is the other nice dr? Will and his twitchy neck is so annoying.... hope they don't take as long with season 5. Agree these episodes were really long, I'm sure they could have cut some stuff out.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 03/07/2022 07:51

Definitely could have done with a good edit. Very little happened really, considering the amount of time!

I'm very pleased that my dead Steve theory was wrong! But I would have liked some of the stuff from the other theories.

Bit disappointed in the typical horror trope of attack the bad guy, it looks like he's dead / seriously mangled, cut away for a second, come back and HE'S DISAPPEARED!

I agree that Will's creepy neck is getting annoying. He could be for the chop next season and I wouldn't be too upset.

Nancy and Jonathan have zero chemistry. But I'm not sure about Nancy and Steve either really. She wants to have a high flying career and I can't see that mixing with Steve's 6 kids in a winabego dream. What they all need is to get out of Hawkins, go to college, work, and meet other people! But then American TV always seems obsessed with your high school boyfriend/ girlfriend being your one true love.

Hopefully if there is a time jump then there is flashbacks rather then we're 2 years into the future accept this all happened!

I liked it. Just shame they didn't reunite sooner. Felt too spread out with everyone in different places. Then for last second oh look here is Will and now he is feeling things...dunnnn

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 03/07/2022 11:58

I'm hoping there is no time jump at all - that the next season carries on immediately from this one.

Hopefully. Think they've mentioned it in interviews so the ages line up or more something but nothing set in stone.

Kanaloa · 03/07/2022 14:00

Yes I agree with basically very little happening. The main plot points were very little/basic and yet somehow it was dragged out over several episodes ranging from 1.5 to 2.5 hours long. It didn’t feel like great writing to be honest, it just felt like they were generally spinning their wheels to fill the time.

Dic · 04/07/2022 08:53

I thought it was really boring and disappointing. I'd loved it until the last two.

ellebelli · 04/07/2022 09:15

I didn't enjoy this last season as much.
Didn't like all the Russian stuff and actually Murray annoyed me.
Hopper and Joyce hardly seemed bothered when they reunited(but found hopper quite hot, only when he was bare chested in his jeans did I realise it)
Sad Eddie died and was shocked at max but of course she will live to fight another day.
I didn't laugh like I have previously watching this season.
Should not have spilt them up.

TheCrowening · 04/07/2022 11:56

I agree, the entire Russian subplot felt pointless and every time they switched to it, it pulled me out of the flow of the story.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 04/07/2022 18:05

Yes the Russia-Hopper plot could have been wrapped up much more quickly. It felt like they wanted the kids to fly solo in this series so they needed an excuse to keep the grown ups all well out of the way.

Anyone else get annoyed with the sword Hopper used on the demidog? That he picked up from the pit just after Murray had been using the flame thrower? How on earth could Hopper hold onto it? It would have been too hot surely?? Or am I missing something?

Yes!! I was thinking "surely he's going to burn his hand?!" but nope, all good. Annoying.

Well I bloody loved it! You are a cynical bunch Grin The villain falling through a window before vanishing trope was a direct nod to Halloween (again, after Eddie's mask), which is obviously awesome.

I have a theory as to why Eleven couldn't find Max when she went into her mind, but it's hardly rocket science so I bet you've all thought of it too.

I have only one serious complaint and request for series 5. Can they please give Will a more era-and-age appropriate haircut? He looks like Jim Carrey in Dumb and Dumber.

xsquared · 04/07/2022 23:59

Did anybody else feel sorry for Jason in the end? It was a real Gasp! moment for me and the fact that it happened so quickly and how insignificant it was compared to what was going on.

Not really - he wasn't a very well-rounded character, just existed to be an antagonist. A bit like that girl Eleven assaulted with the roller skate.

I felt worse for Billy because we got a little bit of insight into why he was such a humongous arsehole, and he had his redemptive moment at the very end. Jason was just there to drive the 'satanic panic' narrative arc.

echt · 05/07/2022 01:05

Well this got me onto "Stranger Things", which I ignored for years and am now on Season 3. I don't mind spoilers. I'm enjoying it, though constantly comparing its tropes to Stephen King novels. Maybe they should do as he did in 'It", the gang all grown up and different lives, coming back to Hawkins, as The Losers did to Derry.

ShaneTwane · 05/07/2022 19:44

So I just read somewhere that Eddie is based on Damian Echols. Wow
