Shall we have a Stranger Things S4 Vol2 prediction thread??

SPOILERS! OBVIOUSLY!

I've just finished Vol 1. I'm excited and impatient and I want to watch Vol. 2 now!

But as I can't, I'm theorising 😃.

Theory 1 - Eleven won't beat Vecna / the mind flayer (is he still about?? Unclear; when the kids were doing some of their own theorising plot exposition they talked about the Demogorgon being the Mind Flayer's foot soldiers, and so Vecna is the five star general - but they might not be right?) at the end of this season. I think this will be an 'Empire Strikes Back' style plot - Eleven will leave training too soon to go rescue her friends, she won't be strong enough, and therefore set up the final showdown in S5. I reckon they've exhausted the "there's a new threat from the upside down! Ok, Eleven has beaten it, end series" format at this point.

Theory 2: related to the above. She'll need to go find Eight, the other girl who escaped Hawkins Lab, and team up to beat Vecna / whatever else is in the upside down for good. Eight clearly has the same power to create hallucinations that Henry Creel / Vecna has, Eleven has the telekinesis power. Maybe they need both to finish him off?

Theory 3: also related to the above. Henry Creel is the father of all the kids from Hawkins Lab - they all get their powers from him. Don't think he would have been old enough to be a sperm donor type situation, so am thinking maybe a form of cloning? In the Eleven's mum backstory it was said she had volunteered for the experiments but not known she was pregnant, and that's how Eleven came to be. Makes sense for just one kid, but the lab flashbacks this season have shown loads of kids - there can't have been that many accidental pregnancies!

Theory 4: Dr Brenner was actually getting Eleven to look for Creel in the upside down in season 1, not the Demogorgon. He worked out that Eleven didn't just kill Creel, she blasted him into another dimension, but as Creel was the source of the superpowered kids, and he only had Eleven left, he needed to get Creel back.

Theory 5: Steve is going to die in Vol2. Possibly saving Nancy? The Dustin / Eddie friendship is being pushed hard in Vol1, I think because Eddie will replace Steve as Dustin's big bother type figure. Also, they've killed off a lot of side characters so far (Barb, Bob, Billy) I think its time someone from the core group took a hit.

What do you reckon??

I have a theory that Vecna will get Will and they've all grown so far apart from him, no one will know his favourite song anymore and he'll die.

We do know his favourite song though. They played it repeatedly to him in S1. It's Should I Stay Or Should I Go by The Clash.

Also loads of Will's fav song in S2 when he was possessed. So that theory pretty much nixed.

I have not read the thread yet but this is my prediction.

Eleven won’t won’t win and I think nearly the whole cast will die. I think Will will survive based on the fact it started with him and so he will need to be the one to try and end it.

Then I think season 5 will be a time jump to Will as an adult. Will realises with hindsight that there was a way the events could have turned out differently. As the upside down is stuck on the day the gate opened, Will and whoever else survived realise they can utilise this and travel back…. changing the course of that day and saving everyone but probably sacrificing himself in the process. After all technically he’s already lived to see adulthood.

I also believe Vecna wasn’t born with powers as he only really discovered them after moving to Hawkins. I think the mind flayer somehow moved through the spiders, sensed that he was dysfunctional and chose to manipulate him.

I dont think they'd kill off Steve...though maybe they will for shock value and to prove no one is safe.

Think Murray or Enzo won't make it...

He's talking about agent orange, which was used in vietnam and did cause birth defects in tue children of those exposed, including bulging eyes and spina bifida. I think that's all he meant and it's nothing to do with vecna. Could be wrong though!

You are probably correct - as I said my history knowledge is rubbish so I wasn't aware of that.

I soooo want Steve to have a happy ending by meeting the girl of his dreams (I don't think that is Nancy btw) and settling down - I will be distraught if he dies! (He is fab in Free Guy too if you haven't seen it 😀)

And I want Hopper to get chunky and hairy again 😋

Great theories but I really hope Steve doesn’t die. He’s such a great unused character. Im hoping maybe Nancy will save him and make her realise he’s the one and not Jonathon.

definitely think they need to bring 8 into it again. Otherwise that storyline made no sense. My theory is 11 will get beat and her friends will all be held captive/killed and she has to go and bring others like her to defeat Verna. (Anyone good with dungeons and dragons to give us any more theories?😂)

Really like the theory that El will need help to defeat Vecna/the mind flayer. Also that perhaps Vecna is El's father in some way. Although the episodes with 8 in them were so awful I sort of don't want to see her again!

I don't think Will will be killed off, it would be too irretrievably sad for the vibe of the show, they've made such a point of Will feeling sad and alone. But things do look set up for Steve to have a heroic death :( I hope Nancy doesn't stay with Jonathan, watching past seasons while wait8ng for vol 2 and he just doesn't seem a good got for her.

Hope Steve doesn't die. Think Eddie (who has a guitar on the wall of his trailer) will play Nancy's fave song (that Steve knows) and save her.

No idea how Hop, Enzo, Murray and Joyce get out of Russia!

Agree with an empire strikes back situation at the end of volume 2. There must be something about 008 or else that s2 storyline was pointless. The Duffer Brothers said they wrote the whole thing in one go and originally wanted 5 series but series 4 ended up so long they needed to split it into volume 1 and 2 so when they wrote 008 into S2 they must have had a plan for her.

I think Vecna is probably the father of all the Hawkins children after he told 11 that Brenner wanted to recreate him, starting a program and others were born.

This suggests to me that some genetic material was extracted from him and implanted to those who took part in the program.

I am feeling pretty lucky after finally getting round to starting to watch ST a few weeks back. Have watched noting else since and last night finished S4 Vol1 - I just 24 hours to wait until Vol 2 Grin

I agree with the 008 theory. Her powers are going to be needed for the final showdown in S5.

Plus, I think killing off the Mind Flayer and/or shutting down all and any routes to the Upside Down will remove powers from 011 and 008. It's the only way either of them get to have happy lives. Left with those powers they will never be safe and happy.

If Steve dies, I shall riot.

In S4, I cannot shake the realisation that Vecna's targets have all felt guilt/shame and it's this he has used against them. Their memories have not been just traumatic but events in which they have rightly or wrongly attributed guilt to themselves:

  • I have a theory that Chrissie was pregnant, which is why she was vomiting in the toilet
  • Nancy's assistant (name forgetten) had killed someone in a drink drive accident
  • Max felt guilty over Billy
  • Victor felt guilty over what he did in the war
As we now know, El has wrongly been carrying the guilt of murdering all the rest of Brenner's child subjects.

I might be way off with that one, though. But maybe there's something about guilt and forgiving yourself that seems to keep cropping up.
