Egg sandwiches

Ok, so inspired my another thread but... on the sandwich fillings for party thread no one has mentioned egg! Surely egg sandwiches are the best bit of a party tea? I'm now fearing they will die out and become extinct. So the question, would you eat an egg sandwich? And would your children eat an egg sandwich?

This thread had made me hungry and I've had tuna sweetcorn jacket potato.

Total let down I should have just bothered my area to boil the eggs.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 22/06/2022 09:18

Often a thing here, esp. for a long car journey. Freshly just-hard-boiled eggs, mashed with mayonnaise and plenty of salt and pepper, with Little Gem lettuce, in really fresh buttered bread.

I’ve made similar for small Gdcs’ ’ birthday parties too, but triangles, crusts cut off, no lettuce. TBH they’ve mostly been scoffed by the parents!

Try boiled eggs mashed with decent cottage cheese , longley farm for example and a bit of Dijon mustard and a bit of black pepper
Serve with salad

Fitterbyfifty · 22/06/2022 18:50

I love egg sandwiches and I have recently started recreating venetian style egg sandwiches and I love them even more!

It's really good, especially once it's warmed up a bit.

This is actually decent, I dont mind egg sandwiches but I cant bear cooking eggs of any kind. I get this sometimes.

@Greengr

I’ve been bitterly disappointed with my recent Longley Farm cottage cheese purchases.

Their yogurts on the other hand are still the food of the gods.

Greengr · 22/06/2022 20:56

That's interesting in fairness I haven't bought longley cottage cheese as it was out of stock di bought the Lidl one instead, cheaper and was yum!

Egg mayo with lots of white pepper on white bread with butter- Amazing! The ready made sandwich filler stuff for some reason is just very bland and meh

Tallulasdancingshoes · 22/06/2022 22:02

No I’m really not keen at all and neither are the dc. We all like eggs in other ways though. Dh loves egg mayo sandwiches and would be delighted.

Bloody love an egg sandwich, lots of Mayo, seasoning, cress optional but I do love it, bread buttered.
Our hens are in full laying season at the moment so I’m making it quite often. Ds is the only one who doesn’t like egg Mayo sandwiches.
My mum makes them with salad cream 🤢

I know how to make them! I make 1 or 2 a week!but in the days I had to knock out 20+ sandwhiches for a kids party, jam, ham or was Philly much easier, along with all the other stuff to do for a party.

gluenotsoup · 22/06/2022 22:34

Love them! The kids won’t eat them.
Soft bread, preferably whole meal or granary, mashed with full fat Hellman’s, chopped watercress, salt, white pepper, a sprinkle of freshly ground black pepper and a teeny bit of mustard. 💕

HopingForMyRainbowBaby · 22/06/2022 22:48

Love them but with salad cream rather than mayo.

BiFoldChampion · 22/06/2022 22:50

My MIL makes them. Including egg and tomato! Yum!!

SenecaFallsRedux · 22/06/2022 23:18

In my family, we all love a good egg salad (as we call egg mayo here in the US) sandwich. Chopped hard boiled eggs, Duke's mayo (available only in the South); a bit of mustard; some hot sauce, and chopped pickles. On lightly toasted white bread.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/06/2022 07:34

I'm taken aback by the number of people who say they love egg sandwiches but their children won't eat them. Why not? Texture, flavour, colour, smell? I hope I'm not going to find myself in extreme old age as one of the last people in the UK who enjoys an egg sandwich ...

ExtremelyDedicated · 23/06/2022 07:47

One of my DC doesn't like eggs at all, never has done. One will eat scrambled egg occasionally but otherwise doesn't eat them. They rarely eat sandwiches at all, prefer things like pitta breads, wraps, if we ever buy a sandwich while out and about they choose these or a ham sandwich. TBH I can't remember the last time I had an egg mayo sandwich either, I do love them but I only really eat sandwiches at work and they are a bit anti-social. They are always my first choice at a buffet though.

KatherineJaneway · 23/06/2022 07:51

Plain egg? No. Egg mayo or egg and cress are a staple and favourite.

onlyhereforthefood · 23/06/2022 07:59

Love an egg sandwich, getting DD started on them young, it's her fave at 8 months too...much to OH's disgust!

MayISuggestSomeThickCutSteakChipsToGoWithThat · 26/06/2022 22:15

For those who like egg mayo/salad cream sandwiches. Try it as a jacket potato filling instead!! I had egg mashed together with salad cream, teaspoon of mustard and mixed in some chopped ham then put inside a jacket potato

SunshineLollipopsAndRainbows · 03/07/2022 08:50

One of our local pubs does amazing sandwiches, so well filled. Local eggs mashed with tomatoes & mayo. One of the best I have ever eaten out. A local hotel does the same & adds cress too.
