Egg sandwiches

Ok, so inspired my another thread but... on the sandwich fillings for party thread no one has mentioned egg! Surely egg sandwiches are the best bit of a party tea? I'm now fearing they will die out and become extinct. So the question, would you eat an egg sandwich? And would your children eat an egg sandwich?

There will definitely be egg and cress sandwiches at my sons party!

Byebyecobwebs · 21/06/2022 18:58

Egg with Mayo and cress. And my nan’s favourite cheese and a bit of white onion. Yum. Always a hit at family parties.

Georgyporky · 21/06/2022 19:03

I love a fried egg sarnie for brekkie - not so keen on them cold.
I've even got a tiny square frying-pan that fits the bread.

Greengr · 21/06/2022 19:04

We have 'holiday sandwiches', egg Mayo with crispy bacon mixed through. Much better than that rubbish they sell on flights!

PieonaBarm · 21/06/2022 19:05

My DH controversially makes egg mayo sandwiches with a generous dollop of salad cream. They're epic!

JesusMaryAndJosephAndTheWeeDon · 21/06/2022 19:08

I love an egg mayo sandwich! Or ham and egg mayo.

Probably one of my favourite sandwiches, they can be a bit stinky in a packed lunch but brilliant for afternoon tea, a picnic or a party.

LorW · 21/06/2022 19:08

My mum makes egg, tomato, cucumber and salad cream sandwiches, absolutely delish! 🤤

BreadInCaptivity · 21/06/2022 19:10

Love them - but there are rules.

They have to be homemade and not from a supermarket.

White soft bread rolls, generously buttered.

The eggs not over cooked so they get that horrible grey ring around them. Just cooked enough to set the yolk (eggs in pan bring to boil, turn off heat and wait 8 mins is perfect).

Do not skimp on the salt and pepper - celery salt is especially lovely.

It has to be mayo - preferably homemade but from a jar will do. Salad cream 🤯 - just no!!

Then cress or watercress. Personally I prefer the latter.

A good egg sandwich is a wonderful thing that is scorned only by those unfortunate enough never to have eaten one made perfectly 😀

midlifecrash · 21/06/2022 19:10

My grandmother used to make them with scrambled eggs, put on the well buttered bread still slightly warm.

Emmelina · 21/06/2022 19:11

The best! There’s something very special about egg and salad cream sandwiches! 😋

yikesanotherbooboo · 21/06/2022 19:15

DM has them every day.
DH always chooses egg if we are buying supermarket sandwiches.
DC 2 who takes packed lunch to work has egg sarnie as top choice if they are going to take a sandwich and not rely on left overs.
Number one choice for cricket teas.
DM always puts cress in but I tend to use chives as I usually have them, also seasoned Hellman's, squeeze of lemon.
In other words, not dying out around here.

VeganVampire · 21/06/2022 19:29

They have to be served at parties because that's the only chance that my kids ever got to eat one, certainly not making the stinking gippy things at home 😱

NewNormalLife · 21/06/2022 19:34

Yes to freshly made egg mayo, but you all seem to be missing the smoked paprika in the mayo which is the magic ingredient.

Pennyhill22 · 21/06/2022 19:41

Love an egg and onion sambo. My first choice from a tray of sandwiches.

Newestname002 · 21/06/2022 19:46

Yes please. Gently fried so the yolk is just creamy and eaten in a buttered ciabatta roll with a little salt and pepper. Maybe even a good quality sausage slight lengthwise into two or three and devoured whilst warm. 🌹

DilemmaDelilah · 21/06/2022 20:31

NO NO NO!!!!!! Egg sandwiches are the food of the devil. They smell like farts. There is nothing - NOTHING - nice about them and that includes the bread which is totally ruined by having been in contact with the egg.
Just in case I haven't made myself clear - egg sandwiches are totally disgusting and should NEVER be served at ANY event EVER.

DoctorManhattan · 21/06/2022 20:42

I love them. I make them with half mayo, half salad cream (generous portion of both!), quarter spoon of Dijon mustard and salt/crack black pepper.

Clevs · 21/06/2022 20:46

I love egg sandwiches, but they have to be made with salad cream and not mayo!

Kittykat93 · 21/06/2022 21:04

Love curried egg mayo sarnies, yum 😋

I use smoked paprika too, and I grate the eggs before adding the mayo/paprika.

limitededitionbarbie · 21/06/2022 21:16

I am having one tomorrow I really want one now

We all love egg sandwiches here. My mum always makes them for picnics because it's the only filling all of us (including niblings) eat.

I've never heard people being referred to as niblings before. Quite appropriate for a picnic.

I love egg sandwiches in all forms

RightOnTheEdge · 21/06/2022 21:19

I love them, they are my favourite! My kids wouldn't touch them though.

MsOllie · 21/06/2022 21:23

I love egg mayo! I do the eggs with a masher as it's quicker

Frazzled2207 · 21/06/2022 21:24

I don’t but my son is a big fan. Is vegetarian and loves a change from the Usual cheese.
