Starters or desserts kind of person?

I went out to dinner with DH this evening and he wanted to get a starter. Problem is, I don't like starters particularly and asked him not to as I was starting to get hangry, lol! With starters, I feel like everyone has to get one, otherwise you're waiting ages. So DH and I had a discussion about starters and desserts. I'm definitely more for desserts.
Anyone else - starters or desserts?

I wouldn't like to go to dinner with someone who wouldn't let me get a starter.

But then I dislike desserts.

DramaAlpaca · 03/06/2022 22:57

It depends on what's on the menu! Generally I'm a starters person, but if there's a dessert that sounds wonderful I might skip the starter.

Namechanger355 · 03/06/2022 22:57

Unfortunately for me ..both

but if I had to choose starters as they usually come quickly and I’m usually starving by the time I order

Fevertree · 03/06/2022 22:57

I love a starter!

Tlollj · 03/06/2022 22:58

Desserts. I’d have three and no dinner if I could

2pinkginsplease · 03/06/2022 23:00

Definitely a dessert. I look at the dessert menu before I look at the mains.

I also hate going out for dinner and people order starters meaning i need to wait ages before I can eat as I'd rather have a dessert

Rogue1001MNer · 03/06/2022 23:01

I'm the opposite @Tlollj
Honestly, if there were no puddings, cakes, biscuits in the world it would be months before I even noticed

Throwawaytoday · 03/06/2022 23:01

Both!

It's the main course I can do without.

abblie · 03/06/2022 23:02

I love starters and partner loves desserts I get my starter when he gets his dessert after dinner 🤣🙈 works for us and yes we get weird looks lol

NiqueNique · 03/06/2022 23:03

Both of course!

NiqueNique · 03/06/2022 23:04

How can you not like starters?? It’s just more delicious food...

missymarrk · 03/06/2022 23:05

Both! 🤣 if had to chose though of course desert would win.

AllPlayedOut · 03/06/2022 23:07

I like desserts but rarely have them. I'm definitely a starters person. Dessert people drive me crazy when they won't allow you to have starters. If no one else wants a starter then I'm happy to order it to come with my main so that I'm not holding anyone up but I want my starter, not a dessert.

SirChenjins · 03/06/2022 23:07

Definitely dessert. I hate starters, why on earth would you fill up before you go onto the main course? A dessert or cheeseboard if I have room finishes everything off nicely.

SquigglePigs · 03/06/2022 23:07

I definitely prefer starters. A lot of desserts don't agree with me so I can only eat a few mouthfuls so it never feels worth it. My ideal is a dinner companion where we share a starter and then share a dessert! I've also done the ordering a starter while everyone else had dessert thing!

AnElegantChaos · 03/06/2022 23:09

Do like a nice pudding but absolutely love starters. I'd happily go for a meal and order three starter courses instead of starter, main, sweet.

AllPlayedOut · 03/06/2022 23:10

Now cheeseboard people are the people I really don't get.

ChristmasJumpers · 03/06/2022 23:11

Dessert all the way. I can count on one hand the times I've had a starter, mostly because I'm a fussy eater so won't eat chicken wings/dressed salads/garlic bread/stuffed mushrooms etc.
I'll eat almost any dessert 😋

Longdistance · 03/06/2022 23:11

I like savoury things, so it would be starter and main. If not, main and cheese board 😳

A580Hojas · 03/06/2022 23:15

Starter. Never have pudding.

A580Hojas · 03/06/2022 23:17

Who knew people really call that course "dessert" .

Spyke · 03/06/2022 23:19

I’m a dessert person and no-one else I know is. It’s so annoying. Genuinely don’t mind waiting for others to eat starters but when they then go oh let’s get the bill without even looking at the dessert menu? Heartbreaking.

devuskums · 03/06/2022 23:21

@abblie omg that's genius. I am going to do this next time we go out for dinner!

SpringIntoChaos · 03/06/2022 23:24

Starter and main, if I'm having two courses. Never have pudding.

YABU to stop your DH though, just because you aren't 'a starter' person!

BertieBotts · 03/06/2022 23:24

Love a starter, especially if you get ones you can share. I'm always too full for dessert. And they're normally boring options. I don't have a huge sweet tooth.
