Most unpleasant celeb you've ever met?

I met a well known mum of a celebrity today. I was offering to give her a hand as she had dropped some shopping on the way to her car.

She shouted 'Don't touch! It's fruit Confused' I said oh sorry, thought you needed a hand there. She said no, just don't touch. I'm fine.

I was shocked and walked off.

Have you ever met a celebrity that's been rude? Or sounded rude even if they weren't actually speaking to you?

Alsonification that's hilarious. It's the kind of stupid thing I'd do.

noblegreenk · 09/05/2022 21:57

Dame Ellen MacArthur wasn't very nice when I met her at a work event. She seemed to think that she was a cut above everyone else and was very aloof.

Eddie Izzard
Elaine Paige
Alan Rickman
Jim Dale
Neil Morrissey
Gina Bellman

(all in the course of work, not bothering them out and about)

Bit unfair with Alan.

Frankie Dettori. I was 14 and was holding out my pen and autograph book when he came into the paddock at Pontefract racecourse. He took both, signed my book but took my pen with him. This was a Disney world pen. It had Mickey Mouse ears. It was MY pen. He carried on signing other peoples books, closely followed by me shouting "Mr Dettori! My pen! I need my pen". He looked at me with a vicious look and said "just a minute, it's only a f**king pen!" So I backed off, expecting he would hand me the pen when he was done...but he didn't. He went inside into an area I couldn't go in. As a very young 14 yo, I was gutted. Yes, it was just a pen, but my parents would never be able to afford to go to Disney again to get me another. I've never been as an adult. I miss that pen.

My sister once served Tilda Swinton in a shop (she lives in the same town.) She said she was very polite.

Ainsley Harriott - absolute twat

He lives near me and I’ve seen him out and about a lot over the years, and he has been nothing but lovely

Ive seen him sat in cafes a few times minding his own business and then get approached by over enthusiastic people who recognise him, and he is unfailingly polite and happy to take selfies etc

Victoria Coren-Mitchell has been really unpleasant on the few occasions I’ve met her

Aw. I think she's fab on telly.

It was Carol Wright

Who?

My mother-in-law was in a coffee shop with her sisters when she saw a man she thought she knew at another table. She told her sisters she was just going to pop over and say hi. Over she went, tapped him on the shoulder and said “hi how are you, I haven’t seen you in ages” & she gave him a big hug. They chatted for awhile, he was extremely friendly, really nice, appeared to know her very well also. She then said goodbye & went back to her sisters again. Her sisters were looking at her in shock and she couldn’t understand why. Turns out it wasn’t someone she knew, it was Brendan Gleeson ! She had no idea. She ended up going back to his table to apologise to him but he was so kind and friendly and he told her not to worry about it at all sure didn’t they have a lovely chat. :)

Oh this is adorable! I can totally hear him saying that too in his lovely rough voice!

3luckystars · 09/05/2022 22:00

I’m going to have to stop reading now in case someone comes on saying Mr.Tumbles and Keith from the Pottery Throw Down are right bastards.

Thearex · 09/05/2022 22:00

Jim Davidson without a doubt. He behaved in the most obnoxious manner- reduced a staff member to tears.

Kim Woodburn, again, not pleasant to be around, her tone was brusque and condescending.

Through my old job I met quite a few celebs & the majority keep their heads down & were really very discreet.

My favourite ever celeb was Noddy Holder, he was fantastic fun and exactly as you would expect. Pink a close second she was the opposite to how you would expect - quiet, friendly -very low profile.

Myleakycauldron · 09/05/2022 22:02

Has anyone mentioned Dawn French?

I'm gutted not to have had an interaction with Judy Murray who just seems to go up and down the country being lovely according to this thread!

Louise0701 · 09/05/2022 22:04

@Needtosave99 we know Katherine Kelly and she is nothing like that usually

also @ChorleyFMcominginyourears @Mammyloveswine We have met Alan Shearer numerous times through football events and he has always been lovely.

SoManyQuestionsHere · 09/05/2022 22:04

Nicholas Cage. Yes, for work. Yes, we used to have celebrities all the time. No, most of them weren't horrible.

But, like, does THAT man deserve bed bugs from every hotel he ever stays at for the sheer torture of having him as a guest at the one where I worked at the time!

Capricious and ridiculously entitled - or, at the very least, his underlings were on his behalf.

noblegreenk · 09/05/2022 22:04

Redbluelellow · 09/05/2022 20:10

Must be mark Wrights mum and that doesn't surprise me.
V. Sad to read about shearer 😢😢😢
I've met a few celebrities most were OK Shane richie absolute bell end and so far up his own arse it's ridiculous.

Lovely celebrities Stewart lee lovely lovely bloke very sweet and Tony Hadley brought me and my mum (who was a massive fan) a drink and introduced us to his friends really lovely guy.

I met Tony Hadley about 20 years ago and he was the nicest celebrity I've ever met. Such a genuinely lovely guy.

OverByYer · 09/05/2022 22:00

Who?

If only there was a way to find out who a person is once you have their name.

You know I’ve never heard of this woman (Carol Wright) but it hasn’t really impacted on my understanding of the thread. She’s obviously some form of celebrity that op recognised - that is clear from the op. These posters jumping in to say ‘who is that? I’ve never heard of her’ are just of the mumsnet variety of ‘who is that? I don’t watch trash tv so I wouldn’t know.’ It doesn’t make you look clever or anything, it makes you look like you struggle with reading comprehension or don’t have the basic skills a 7 or 8 year old would have to be able to simply go to Google and type a name in, then read the responses that brings up.

@Georgeskitchen not late night love with graham Torrington?!! 😅

Oh my god, Late Night Love with Graham Torrington (can't shorten it ever, it's against the law 😁) - that was the tits when I was a teen! Loved it, I so hope he's not a twat!

whataboutbob · 09/05/2022 22:05

I met the queen once. Quite haughty she was.

CotswoldWoolly · 09/05/2022 22:05

@3luckystars Have met Keith Brymer Jones a number of times and he’s been lovely. Really friendly and very passionate about his work.

Sorry to say that I absolutely refuse to watch any of Mr Tumble / Justin Fletcher shows as he is vile.

Anthony Joshua is also vile. The most arrogant man I’ve ever met. Through my family we know loads of professional sports people; mainly footballers & boxers and he is by far the worst. The act for cameras is actually embarrassing if you know him in real life.

Goldijobsandthe3bears · 09/05/2022 22:07

Qwill · 09/05/2022 19:36

Giles Coren, both patronising and lecherous.

Oh noooo, I liked him

Silversprinkles · 09/05/2022 22:08

Gabby Logan is my worst celeb met through work. Tried to pull a "don't you know who I am" and was just a snotty obnoxious cow to everyone.

Her husband Kenny (ex Scotland rugby player) on the other hand was polite, friendly and very much liked. No idea how he ended up with such an unpleasant woman.

Also met (work) Gordon Ramsay who was fab - very funny, warm and incredibly professional. No time wasting but no silly drama either. The shouty rude persona seemed to be all for the cameras. And he obviously adores his family.

Also met Billy Connolly who was just what you'd expect - hilarious obviously but also genuinely interested in the folk around him and happy to chat for ages.

TryingNotToReact9to5 · 09/05/2022 22:08

Bill Oddie
I lived in Hampstead and I smiled at him thinking he was familiar from somewhere (doh) and he scowled back at me so deliberately I recoiled in shock.
