Now this is interesting. Lukashenko trying to make out that Poland is the enemy?!

Lukashenko could see the "Polish threat" to Ukraine, and said that we would still have to count on the support of Russia and Belarus

"It seems to me that if, for example, Poland and other countries continue to behave like that, we — Belarus, Russia and Ukraine — will fight against you together," — he said.

⚡️ 2,100 people left occupied Kherson Oblast on foot, by car.

Over 2,000 civilians escaped from frontline villages north in the direction of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast, according to the Kherson Regional Administration.

From the Kyiv Independent.

Igotjelly · 06/05/2022 20:16

The Kyiv Independent was reporting earlier that Ukrainian officials wouldn’t talk about operations ongoing at the steel plant. It often seems that the less there is to say about it the more is actually going on so fingers crossed some good news to come.

I definitely do not want to read the news on the 9th - I might just head into work that day and hide out somewhere with no signal. Maybe nuclear medicine…ironically 😂 Even though we can likely assume it’s just bluster it’s still so triggering for me and I don’t know why but I struggle to not let it get in my head. It’s like anxiety about anxiety 🙄

Avoid the news and come to this thread first so that anything scary will be put in context.

Igotjelly · 06/05/2022 20:20

In fact 50 civilians evacuated so far from Avostal today! Fantastic.

katem98 · 06/05/2022 20:20

@Natsku I was just about to say this. It's what I do every single day. So grateful for you all.

Igotjelly · 06/05/2022 20:23

Won’t be much to put in context If we’re all avoiding the news 😂

katem98 · 06/05/2022 20:24

@Igotjelly Erm, didn't think about that🤣

Ijsbear · 06/05/2022 20:24

Can you imagine Putin on Mumsnet?

"my brother nation belongs to me but he's keeping his distance. I need him to belong to me!"

"it's his choice to keep his distance from you, you have to respect that"

"But I want it!"

"Give your head a wobble!"

We’d all be telling Lukashenko to LTB!

ScrollingLeaves · 06/05/2022 20:33

KTB

ScrollingLeaves · 06/05/2022 20:34

(not really)

Igotjelly · 06/05/2022 20:45

😂😂 @ScrollingLeaves don’t know like, I feel like this is one of those where no jury would convict you!

Natsku · 06/05/2022 20:45

Clearly the issue is that dictators don't have mumsnet equivalents to tell them YABU. Get their arse handed to them a few times in threads and they won't dare invade anywhere.

wasn't there the lady who was severely emotionally abused who snapped and killed her husband? Their own sons said she should be released from prison because 'the way he was treating her wasn't right'

She is released now!

The Pentagon has said that they so far have received No Intelligence that the Russian Frigate Admiral Makarov has been struck by Ukrainian Anti-Ship Missiles and is sinking near Odessa, though they have been paying very close attention to the Claims over the last 24 hours.

well that’s disappointing

tearsforfears72 · 06/05/2022 21:09

Haven’t been on these threads for a while but have used them to stay updated.
Honestly I can’t believe that the war’s been going on for over two months now and could potentially last years. Some of the images of evacuees from Azovstal today are heartbreaking, especially the ones of children. So many innocent people’s lives have been ruined or even taken away.
Putin’s Russia will have much to atone for when Ukraine routs the Russian army.

Well they've spent an awful lot of time with eyes in the sky over the Black Sea looking at nothing.

I also seem to recall they were similarly cagey about the Moskva.

I wouldn't call it just yet.

L1ttledrummergirl · 06/05/2022 21:14

What would be the chances of a Ukrainian pilot getting lost on Monday and shooting down a scary looking plane flying over a tank column only oops they're over the Kremlin?

Damn those western satnavs.

Low.

But given what we suspect about Russian military maintenance I'd say there was a 50/50 chance of the tank parade stalling and making a car park out of red square...

Igotjelly · 06/05/2022 21:28

For £500 they could upgrade their tanks!

😂

In all seriousness to posters who are anxious about the 9th, it's utterly predictable that Putin will use the event as a PR stunt to demonise The West, and show Russian "military strength" by making threats - possibly nuclear (or hint at it).

To be honest I'd be more worried if he didn't because that means he's being unpredictable and that's more dangerous than his blustering rhetoric.

What we are seeing is world leaders going about their normal business and that's significant.

As pp put it so well, unless we see him waving and saying "so long suckers" from the cockpit of his doomsday plane I think everyone should respond to whatever threats he makes with a very MN single eyebrow raise Hmm or better still a DFOD.
