Bidens definitely on it! I was worried initially they were going to let Ukraine fall, but it's really ramping up now. Boris and Ben Wallace also doing a great job (for Ukraine anyway).

Lots of Twitter talk from Ukrainians and Eastern Europeans saying how great we are, along with the US. Along with Brits supporting them back. Times like this, I am proud to be British

100%. Naturalised British even, in my case.

@TiddyTidTwo · 10/05/2022 22:32
Scrolling are these attacks coming from the Black Sea? If so, why the fuck is Russia controlling the Black Sea? I don't get it

I hope someone can confirm it as I can’t remember where I read it right now, but yes the ships and submarine (?s) in the Black Sea shoot missiles targeted to the Azovstal steel plant and Odesa. They have also been bombing from planes I believe.

However little true progress the Russian soldiers are making in the east, it seems they can keep going indefinitely wiping out the coast bit by bit. Then they can eat into the middle later I should think.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/05/2022 23:09

Blue I know the UK is a mess but when it comes to the crunch, we've come good. I know there's issues at home but this IS more important. It's our future at stake and we've stood up and been probably ukraines best ally, after all we've gone through ourselves. It's the bigger picture.

We ARE a massive influence in Europe, despite leaving the EU. We are not a little island that depends on the EU. Lots of tweets from French and Germans saying they want the UK back. Course they do! It's times like this when the cream rises to the top.

TiddyTidTwo · 10/05/2022 23:15

Scrolling so frustrating! Russian boots on the ground can't do it. Morale, equipment etc is dire.

I know Turkey has shut off the Black Sea to everyone now but them bombing from ships....argh! If they didn't have that, surely it'd be over.

I'm glad the US is providing intelligence to help take out those in the Black Sea I just wish it could happen faster!

Steasy now.

I did see comments about how this crisis will re draw lines of influence with Eastern European countries being more significant going forward.

I do think its shown up France and Germany.

However if we are in for a long war, this is still early days...

TiddyTidTwo · 11/05/2022 00:01

Yes Red 😂** i do think this war has absolutely exposed those countries and is undermining the EU. there's talk on Twitter (ok not governments, just people) of a new union of Eastern Europe, like minded countries and the UK. France and Germany are a complete let down are are not showing me they can be trusted.

If France, Germany etc don't pull their fingers out of their arse then the EU is in trouble.

Macrons idea of the big adult EU countries ie France and Germany and let's not kid ourselves that is who the EU Is, then the likes of the UK and Ukraine at the kids table with a two tier system is a bloody insult. What's wrong with him? Is he Le Pen lite?

Yes I I did vote leave and this is why.

prettybird · 11/05/2022 00:08

I suppose one slightly positive way of looking at it is that every Russian missile used is one less missile that they have to use. This is especially important with the Smart missiles.

Whereas Ukraine, which might not have a navy worth speaking of now Sad (at least in terms of ships: it still has navy personnel who are apparently fighting alongside the "land" army), is getting its supplies replenished by the West Smile

Not much consolation to those under those Russian missions though Sad

ScrollingLeaves · 11/05/2022 00:17

Re: missiles where are they coming from

This was on the BBC news site yesterday.

On Monday morning authorities four sea-launched Onyx cruise missiles were fired towards Odesa.

The earlier attacks came as European Council President Charles Michel visited Odesa.

On Sunday, ten cruise missiles were fired at the Odesa area. Russia has used submarines, surface ships and aircraft to launch missiles at Odesa in recent days.*

Just read the Guardian's report of a US intelligence chief warning Putin could escalate things if he feels he's being defeated in Ukraine. Describes it as a "grim forecast" and I stupidly read it before bed 🙄

ShinyHat22 · 11/05/2022 00:36

But this isn’t new knowledge, is it? I always try to place this in context.

TiddyTidTwo · 11/05/2022 00:37

Baroque that's encouraging appeasement through fear. We must not do that.

That talk was right at the start and what's happened? Nothing. He won't do it. In fact, many innocent Ukrainians have died and cities reduced to rubble because...appeasement.

It has to stop

ScrollingLeaves · 11/05/2022 00:44

A huge amount of Ukrainian grain stolen by the Russians is in ships in the Mediterranean going to where the Russians choose.

odessa-journal.com/grain-stolen-from-ukraine-is-already-in-the-mediterranean/

That's exactly what I'd expect, and will be matched by the information war.

  1. Russia invades Ukraine and causes an international food crisis.
  2. Russian propaganda tells populations of target countries that NATO, the US, EU, etc, have caused the food crisis.
  3. Russia rocks up with stolen Ukrainian grain to play the hero "saving" target countries from food crisis.

This technique works again and again.

Trump did it a lot and I saw it described when as T throws a puppy in a barrel of water. T pulls puppy out of barrel. T says, "Look at me, I saved a puppy from drowning."

What it does show is that there is some internal opposition to Putin, and therein lies hope. But surely he wasn't allowed to get away with this and has been visiting the shaman since?

It's been widely reported that Russian surface vessels and submarines have been using Surface to surface missiles such as 3M-54 Kaliber to hit targets on the mainland.

I don't think the Russians have been much if any traditional bombing going on (according to open sources the Ukraine Air Defence system has been holding up pretty well) however big Russian bombers such as the Tu-22 can launch long range cruise missiles without going anywhere near Ukrainian controlled airspace.

On a separate point, with regard to comments upthread given France currently holds presidency of the EU I would have expected Mr Macron to have been on the phone to Putin occasionally...he however has not been been reported as having done so recently...As for relative levels of aid... I suspect for obvious reasons the UK MSM won't really have given much priority to reporting in full the sort assistance France is providing, one such example being the Caesar long range artillery system.
