@MagicFox I don’t want to look 🤣 has he stopped talking and did he say anything awful or what we expected or? I’m to terrified to click on anything incase it sends me over the edge today! However thank you so much for checking in! X

Yeh, he's now taking a wee stroll through Moscow chatting to folk.

Putin looks much healthier than he has done recently doesn't he. Perhaps its the fresh air and the fact that he isn't hiding himself away. The power of vitamin D!

We are quite sure it’s Actual Putin not a lookalike? 😉

BringBackCoffeeCreams · 09/05/2022 09:13

TargusEasting · 09/05/2022 08:33

He is saying Nato has declared war. He is pissed off the narrative is the West won WW2 and no recognition of Russia in that. Otherwise its just another Victory Parade. Don't see how he can play it differently.

I am watching on You Tube, Telegraph channel. The on-screen translation is poor, talking about "New biscuits" and "Paul Newman", "Sea Bass", "Nipples" and "Mitsubishi". Very poor.

I agree with him over the WW2 narrative.

Igotjelly · 09/05/2022 09:13

Well I feel much more relaxed after that I think.

Scoobydoooo99 · 09/05/2022 09:15

So can I relax that I probably won’t die because of Putin today do you think 🤣😉

Yes definitely. Putin is strolling around Moscow in the sunshine laying wreaths so I would suspect he isn't expecting a nuclear Armageddon today.

Links aren't working properly so here, crikey.

Actually on reflection this is probably going to have less effect than it might first appear because there is probably not much overlap between Putin/war supporters and people with smart tvs.
Still nice though.

Igotjelly · 09/05/2022 09:19

Sky News quoting former UK Ambassador to Russia, Sir Tony Brenton as saying he felt that Putin's speech was 'encouraging'

"It is rather encouraging that it leaves me with the feeling that we are dealing with a rational individual there with whom hopefully in time it will be possible to do a sensible deal to bring this whole mess to an end,"

MagicFox · 09/05/2022 09:23

Throwawaytoday · 09/05/2022 08:50

I, for one, am glad he's looking well - he's much scarier when he's got nothing to lose.

May he be very very healthy, then accidentally poisoned by an errant prawn.

Like the oil boss today whose been found dead after undergoing a shamanic ritual involving toad poison? Seriously, that's what they're saying. Manager of Lukoil.

He laid wreaths at the monuments to the "hero cities" Kyviv and Odessa

katem98 · 09/05/2022 09:30

Really surprised he's shaking hands seeing as though he's so terrified of Covid.

FWIW Sheremetyevo Forecast issued at 0453 UTC this morning

UUEE 090453Z 0906/1006 33006G12MPS 9999 BKN020 TX09/0910Z TN03/1002Z TEMPO 0908/0917 34012G19MPS 2900 -SHRA FEW007 BKN016CB

In English - windy, throughout the day chance of big showers, at times visibility down to 2900 metres, some cloud at 700 feet.....

So just about OK at times but objectively not great for dragging a large formation of aircraft over a big built up area...(mind you have they got enough aircraft left for a large formation?)

Mind you, even the weather report could be lying.

baroqueandblue · 09/05/2022 09:41

Thanks to everyone for analysing today's speech! 😃 Like scooby, I couldn't read a news site for fear of finding something terrifying. I'm glad there are so many brave people on this thread 🥉

Scoobydoooo99 · 09/05/2022 09:47

I agree baroque! Thank you everyone! I know how incredibly selfish I have sounded, anxiety disorder does that to you unfortunately, however I am so grateful for everyone’s support and taking time to pop on and inform us! 😊

minsmum · 09/05/2022 09:49

No sign of Gerasimov at the parade

Ijsbear · 09/05/2022 09:50

wow. That's really good timing. They've known how to do that for a while and saved it up haven't they?

That's an interesting sentence in the article about the Ukrainian deportations and them being used as labour. Given Russia's shrinking population I wonder if these deportations are quite deliberate partly in order to gain more workers?

HIghlights from UkraineNOW:

General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine: the greatest activity of the invaders is observed in Slobozhanskiy and Donetsk directions. At the same time, there is a high probability of missile strikes throughout Ukraine

In the Donetsk direction, the enemy, with the aircraft and artillery support, focused its efforts on trying to take control of the settlements of Rubizhne, Popasna, preparing to continue combat operations in the direction of Siversk, Slovyansk, Lysychansk and Avdiivka. Has increased firepower and trying to break through the defenses of our troops.

The United Kingdom has announced new sanctions against Russia and Belarus: tariff increases and export bans. Particularly, the British government will increase by 35% tariffs on imports of Russian goods, including platinum and palladium imports. Overall, the tariff increase will affect merchandise trade worth £1.4 billion. In addition, the UK will introduce a complete ban on the sale of certain goods to Russia for a total of £250 million. These include chemicals, rubber, plastics and various equipment.

Invaders forbade Mariupol residents to move around the city without three "certificates": a certificate of "filtration", a permit to move through the city streets and a permit to move outside Mariupol, — wrote Ombudsman Denisova.

In the temporarily occupied territory of Zaporizhzhya region, cases of personal documents seizure from the local population without good reason were noted, the return of which will take place after the participation of local population in the celebrations on the occasion of the Victory Day. [ so, no pressure. Free and happy participation in the Russian occupiers' celebrations].

After the G7 leaders' meeting, Japan announced that it would impose an embargo on Russian crude oil imports

From Kyiv Independent

⚡️ Governor: Russian troops destroy 4,000 homes in Kyiv Oblast since start of war.
Kyiv Oblast Governor Oleksandr Pavliuk said on May 8 that destruction has been recorded in 46 of 69 communities, or 66.7% of the region.

⚡️ Advisor to Interior Minister: Ukraine receives 32,000 appeals from relatives of missing Russian soldiers.
Viktor Andrusiv said in an interview on Channel 24 on May 8 that calls from Russians inquiring about their loved ones in Ukraine is common.
Andrusiv added that around 12,000 calls and 20,000 messages have been received on a hotline and Telegram channel set up for this purpose, respectively. [presumably some wounded are on that list and perhaps some appeals are duplicate from different sets of relatives, but it also won't be including appeals from families with confirmed dead soldiers. SO it's really quite a lot].

Ukraine’s military: Russia deploys up to 19 BTGs to Belgorod, tries to break through Ukrainian defenses in Donetsk.

UK Defense Intelligence: Russia running out of modern weaponry, will use old rockets spreading destruction wider.
According to the recent intelligence update by the U.K. Defense Ministry, Russia will struggle to replace the precision weaponry it has already expended, therefore will turn to aging munitions that are less reliable, less accurate and more easily intercepted.

Max Seddon

Contrast Putin's speech with Zelensky's today:

"Very soon there will be two Victory Days in Ukraine. And someone won't have any.

We won then. We will win now. And Khreshchatyk will see the victory parade – the Victory of Ukraine!"

Ijsbear · 09/05/2022 09:52

Oh for crying out loud. Thought I'd got every - out of the post this time.

agreed about the WW2 thing. Though I came across a reference of just how much equipment the US supplied Russia then, it's a lot!

But so so many Russians died.

TiddyTidTwo · 09/05/2022 09:56

Thanks Red!

Now, I've missed Putins big day, but looks like I haven't missed much!

TiddyTidTwo · 09/05/2022 10:04

Their planes are so shit that if they get wet they fall apart. That’s my theory.

Ah, they've been reduced to their paper aeroplanes now!
