996 is the right root word.

Gaaah, I pretty much had the word 20 guesses ago, when I got 998 and thought I’d tried every form of this word, but missed the simplest one.

I solved Semantle #101 in 149 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -1.38. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #69. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.00 (122/1000). semantle.com/

I like working it out from “human” hints on here so I will happily come on after a few guesses. It’s just a differently satisfying game!

I would love some cryptic hinting soon. Spent entire lunch break on this, now over 100 with only two greens of my own (309 and 342) and one hint (506). Back at 5pm for another go!

Of those, only 506 is vaguely helpful I'm afraid! But if you were really good at 506 what might happen?

I’m also stuck on 993. I’ve swept this thread for clues and I can’t think of any other synonyms.

Also very disappointed I didn’t get to accidentally see AliasGrape’s screenshot and get a leg up (I was floundering around 681 and 169 for a long time).

Hmm, those are all a bit rubbish.

Maybe think about whether just because you 309 something does that mean you are <target word> to the thing. Might give you the right root word.

There’s a longer version of 993 that you might get but only if you were 996 to it.

996 is very close to the target word if you manage to get that.

It's got to the stage where I'm retyping words to see if they work this time. So close to giving up now. I'm bamboozled.

996. I tried a longer version of 993 but that's not it.

I seem to be having another of those days when my greens don't intersect with clues on here (unless I've missed some).

I like the clues on here because you have to think like doing a crossword. I've not used the semantle ones; I do on pimantle (working through the archive) as there's no one to help and no quit button, and they're often useless/confusing.

Sorry, the longer version of 993 was part of a larger clue, but you’re nearky there with 996. Just one letter away!

Maybe think if you had a 970 something, it would <target word> you to something.
