103 for me today.

MoonriseKingdom · 09/05/2022 21:21

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 144 guesses with an accuracy of 54.86%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Got the overall theme a while back but took me ages to narrow that down to the exact topic.

Redcrayons · 09/05/2022 22:09

Got the overall theme very early but didn’t know the actual thing. DS gave me the answer, I would never have got it myself.

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 278 guesses with an accuracy of 46.04%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Yesterday's one...autumn. I'm curious how the round-the-houses solves went. I got stuck on a sports track and I kind of knew it was a dead end as all the hits were in a paragraph low down the page, but I plugged on with sports terms, thinking if I could make sense of the paragraph it might help and then hit on seasons which pinged all over the place.

I thought it was about the growth and change of language until I typed fall and then guessed autumn.

Solved it this evening as I hadn't refreshed the page since yesterday.

I think the way people go about solving it and the leaps of inspiration are as interesting as actually finding the word.

zoeFromCity · 09/05/2022 22:23

Yesterday, I was firing random probable words with 2 meanings, I used "may" as a world which should be somewhere there, and got one hit on May and it seemed in the middle of a list, so April and June continued. Later I had all months and switched to filling the text with times of year, and it just happened.

'Only by plugging away there did I get to ‘also known as (redacted) in American English’ at the very top of the page and that got me the answer. '

Same, I was going for languages and places and then when I got there I thought what do the Americans say differently from us, took a few goes but I got there!

PortiaFimbriata · 09/05/2022 23:49

Still haven't got todays.

Yesterday I got as far as "one of a group of four, also known by a shorter name in US English" and was still stumped, but when I went down to the cultural celebrations section I suddenly realised that the only things that would be celebrated equally in every single culture of the world would be the seasons.

SheilaFentiman · 09/05/2022 23:55

369 guesses for today but I enjoyed it

Fifthtimelucky · 10/05/2022 00:09

Well today was frustrating. There were a number of occasions when I thought I had made a breakthrough, only to find that I hadn't!

207 guesses with 46% accuracy.

luciatrope · 10/05/2022 00:30

271 guesses, plurals on, some light googling at the end

This one drove me bonkers! I kept getting words but nothing decent in the first paragraph. Thought it was about something halfway down the page. Ended up having to search the general category for inspiration... Didn't take long to figure out but now feels anti-climactic!

FlippyFloppyFlappy · 10/05/2022 00:45

I’d managed to uncover a lot of the Etymology paragraphs, without realising they were about the Etymology, so I had lots of stuff about Germanic languages, Old English, Middle English, Old Norse, 16th Century etc.

Only by plugging away there did I get to ‘also known as (redacted) in American English’ at the very top of the page and that got me the answer.

I’m 130 guesses into today’s. Based on what isn’t a hit I know it can’t be the thing I’m skirting around, but then because of what IS there I can’t really see what else might fit.

This is very similar to me yesterday - including the sentence that finally made it click.

WheelofLife · 10/05/2022 05:33

235 and 55.98% accuracy. I heard OH muttering one the key words early on but in the plural form. We were kicking ourselves later!

Pennina · 10/05/2022 08:39

Still struggling on 201! Serves me right for getting the previous one in 2 goes!

Peckhampalace · 10/05/2022 09:25

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 220 guesses with an accuracy of 49.55%. Played at www.redactle.com/

On the wrong track for a while and had to Google once I went past 200 as I knew the area, but words wouldn't come.

Pennina · 10/05/2022 13:15

Finally!

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 258 guesses with an accuracy of 41.09%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 298 guesses with an accuracy of 56.04%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I got the theme eventually. I was getting lots of hits before I did though (hence the reasonably good %). Not a favourite subject of mine so ended up googling. Glad I did as I'd have never guessed the specific word.

Featuredcreature · 10/05/2022 16:56

I solved today's Redactle (#33) in 277 guesses with an accuracy of 40.07%. Played at www.redactle.com/

5 minutes to go, I think I had tried everything I knew about similar things, shakes fist.

thinkningaboutit · 10/05/2022 17:00

What was yesterday's anyone please?

BIWI · 10/05/2022 17:01

Not getting anywhere quickly today - #33 - any general hints?!
