As predicted, I was on entirely the wrong route - had to use a hint, as would never have got it otherwise. @LadyOfTheCanyon if you're still stuck as I was with words linked to 957 and 894, it's worth thinking much wider - what do they often aim to promote, in their most philosophical sense (rather than in reality, sadly).

@HadEnoughOfBears I had 999 for ages, it's not really that helpful. In an American context 999 meant 1000 for all.
