I solved today's Redactle (#16) in 61 guesses with an accuracy of 73.77%. Played at www.redactle.com/

I am so pleased with this that I have started this thread 😀🤗

Any chance of a hint for today? It’s driving me mad!

EatSleepReplete · 25/04/2022 21:15

I solved today's Redactle (#19) in 257 guesses with an accuracy of 35.02%. Played at www.redactle.com/

That was hard, not my subject at all!

SingingWaffleDoggy · 25/04/2022 21:15

I can’t seem to get the gist tonight either

AliasGrape · 25/04/2022 21:17

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 25/04/2022 20:37

This is going to come out worse than I intend, I swear I don't mean it like it sounds!

Have to admit, I don't overly understand the point of doing it if you're going to google, especially to brag about the low amount of guesses it takes.

Not trying to be snippy, I know it doesn't affect my game at all, it just feels odd to see.

I’ve only done 4 so far. Have sometimes needed Google. I still feel like there was a point.

One I only googled to get correct spelling of a name, no different to using a dictionary. I’d solved it without any other help. One I didn’t need Google at all. Two of them I’d got half the title and the subject area but my subject knowledge in that area was poor. You either know it’s called the college of cardinals or you don’t. At that point I can either give up or Google. If it was a quiz show or general knowledge quiz against another person then I’d be out, but it’s just me playing against myself so I might as well Google and maybe learn a bit of something to improve my general knowledge at the same time.

bonkersbirdie · 25/04/2022 21:23

I solved today's Redactle (#19) in 185 guesses with an accuracy of 31.89%. Played at www.redactle.com/

My best attempt so far but still taking me ages to get anything actually useful. I seem to waste a lot of guesses on generic words that might give me a bit more meat to the sentence but don't really reveal anything about the topic.

Not sure I'm getting the hang of it really.

randomsabreuse · 25/04/2022 21:31

Today's (19) was impossible. Got to the vague topic area eventually but once it wasn't something I vaguely remembered from school I had no chance without Google. Hard enough with Google as I had no idea the words were linked.

My tactics are to pick "general" terms in particular areas so continents, geographical features, time words to try to narrow down the field to say history, geography, science, biography, maths or whatever and then narrow down from there. Stuffed if it's something I don't have much vocabulary in though, like today!

L1ttledrummergirl · 25/04/2022 21:31

So is Googling allowed? I assumed that would be cheating, I was trying to get it through the text.
If it's part of the game though that changes it from a word game to research.

I don't think there's anything wrong with using Google for research.

randomsabreuse · 25/04/2022 21:41

For me it's keep going without Google until I'd otherwise give up, then Google to stop it driving me mad. The best thing about the other "dles" is that there is a fixed end point after too many guesses. A give up button would do the trick for me tbh...

suckingonchillidogs · 25/04/2022 21:48

I can't get it - it stopped being fun about an hour ago Angry

I feel the same! I gave up and used Google today after 300-odd guesses because I knew by then it was something I knew NOTHING about. I don't count that as a solve, it's an "OK, I give up, what the fuck is it?!"

It is just for fun, of course, but for me, hitting Google is admitting defeat. I want one that's literature or history-based.

I think it’s up to you what’s allowed!

Im not really playing it as a word game - I play all the others for that - it’s like a detective puzzle as someone said earlier in the thread. I do as much as I can without googling but once I know it’s a Wikipedia article about the ‘X of cardinals’ and I don’t know there’s such a thing as the college of cardinals, I can either enter collective
nouns at random until the new one loads at 5pm the next day (brace of cardinals, gaggle of cardinals, embarrassment of cardinals … it’s quite fun), give up and wait for the answer the next day, or use Google and complete the puzzle that way.

Nobody is going to be able to do every single one without googling anything surely - say one day it’s the name of a painting you’ve never heard of but you manage to narrow it down to 17th century Belgian artists or something - you’ve still done an awful lot of the work, you’re only playing
against yourself so up to you whether you just stop there and think oh well or Google, I still think you’d have done well either way.

Googling isn't a part of the game its just a tool to help, no different to looking up how to spell something really.

Breathmiller · 25/04/2022 22:01

I'm enjoying this game. Keep thinking I'll never get it then something clicks. I do use Google and Wikipedia though to help. I don't think I'd ever get ot otherwise. I am learning loads as well. Things like The Winter War which I'd never heard of.
Tonight's was waaaay out of my comfort zone though and took a lot of guesses but I got there in the end.

LowbrowVictoriana · 25/04/2022 22:04

I solved today's Redactle (#19) in 183 guesses with an accuracy of 37.16%. Played at www.redactle.com/

That was very tedious.

GuppytheCat · 25/04/2022 22:04

I had the second half of today’s title quite quickly but we ran out of ‘types of x’ that we could remember, even with three of us (all quite usefully educated) suggesting things. Hit it more or less by accident in the end.

It doesn’t help that quite a bit of the text is missing, presumably as it was a complicated layout in the original.

SingingWaffleDoggy · 25/04/2022 21:15

Same here. Lots of zeros.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/04/2022 22:07

Finally got the second word in the title (sadly not the first!). Am hoping the penny will drop soon, but I'm not sure. Confused

I've got a general gist, but I'm missing something major.

WeAllHaveWings · 25/04/2022 22:08

Got it in 164guesses 45.73% accuracy

Got the theme in the first 15 guesses but by 100 and something I had pulled in ds to help 🤦🏻‍♀️

Only second time playing, why didnt the option to share and paste come up?

Redcrayons · 25/04/2022 22:10

I used google and DS, whose A levels come in pretty handy again.

At 356 guesses I’m hardly boasting. the only one I’ve got without googling was snow. I would never have got the others as I just don’t know much about the subject areas. I would have been here till the end of time guessing Chopin’s first name.

I solved today's Redactle (#19) in 356 guesses with an accuracy of 33.43%. Played at www.redactle.com/

MrsLargeEmbodied · 25/04/2022 22:13

Can some one give me a clue, I have the second word in the title

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/04/2022 22:16

I'm slightly worried I did an A-level that included this, and have completely forgotten it.

I have pretty much all of the first paragraph though, so surely I should recognise it?!

BelleTheBananas · 25/04/2022 22:33

I think I’m playing it differently to everyone else? I get most of the words of a given sentence, then copy and paste into Wikipedia and it gives me the article. Is that cheating? It doesn’t take me that long to get a big enough chunk to go searching for the article.

I solved today's Redactle (#19) in 57 guesses with an accuracy of 42.11%. Played at www.redactle.com/

Yes - I see it as about finding clues. For instance, I was kicking myself on the Chopin one that I didn't figure out much sooner what sort of thing A-[redacted] was.
