Alternatives to MN

SirChenjins · 21/04/2022 18:08

In light of the recent changes on here I’m looking for alternative chat forums on which to impose my opinions and wisdom (oh lucky them). Until MN sorts out the many issues can anyone suggest some good ones? Preferably not Reddit or Netmums.

Just posting to see the edit button 😂

MyBeloved · 22/04/2022 09:07

Nope, can't see it! Must be a premium feature, I'm guessing

Captainj1 · 22/04/2022 09:11

Trying to read the OP’s post but keep getting that pop up asking for cookie consents so will have to pass

😁

Inextremis · 22/04/2022 09:17

You could always try boards.ie - it's an Irish forum that covers many, many topics. However, if you don't like the new MN format, you'll probably hate Boards!

Antarcticant · 22/04/2022 09:18

I'm not very happy with the changes, but I bet not many forums would let a thread like this stand, which is why I am staying.

They would have deleted it but can’t as they sadly lost that function during the change.

In Our Time

Adam Buxton (some GEMS in here)
WTF with Marc Maron
Sodajerker
The Huberman Lab

Thanks for those suggestions - I’ll give them a listen 😊

Thedogshouses · 22/04/2022 09:34

Ffs I like

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 22/04/2022 10:22

So if you have a edit button, if you are about to be deleted for something like telling someone who suggests exercise as an alternative to MN to fuck off could you edit to say something more within guidelines?

Just an example at random given above of course Wink

IncompleteSenten · 22/04/2022 10:32

I've never found one.

I don't like the changes but I've never liked any of the changes in the roughly 20 years I've been on here and I've got used to every single one and often ended up quite liking them.

I don't think there is another site on the internet that is really busy, populated overwhelmingly by women, a lot of intelligent and knowledgeable people, good senses of humour. I really think it's unique.

And, erm, the bunfights. ☺️ Are quite entertaining too. The trivial ones.

SirChenjins · 22/04/2022 11:24

Oh absolutely - love the bun fights, the snarky little emojis and the ability to post ‘you sound x’ without contributing anything of note to the thread. I wouldn’t be a MN thread without them. Also love the fact that it’s mainly women on here, and while some behave like asshats with all the social skills of a dead dog the vast majority are intelligent, witty and knowledgeable.

they just need to sort of platform, iron out the many issues and all shall be well.

Lots of sites to see us through for a bit, i wonder if Yahoo answers is still going? Hmm

Thedogshouses · 22/04/2022 12:30

Bunfights. AKA old regulars who are far too invested bullying anyone who doesn't agree with them. My hope is that the new changes gives people a chance to speak before the inevitable 5 people who reply first and set the culture find something else to do 24/7. Passive aggressive doesn't begin to describe the old guard. They change with the wind in order to make their mark on Every. Single. Thread. All day. And. All. Of. The. Night.

SirChenjins · 22/04/2022 12:48

You should deffo feed your hopes back to MNHQ while they’re making changes to the site

Thedogshouses · 22/04/2022 13:52

Maybe I should but it might be a bit of a liberty, I guess free speech is still the main thing. Just because I don't like people who never name change and pile in, it's the MN bread and butter to be available to the press for marketing.

SirChenjins · 22/04/2022 14:10

Yeah, free speech (within reason) is really important. I know a bun fight doesn’t harm MN’s marketing but there are some really supportive threads and posts on here too which is I like most about it.
