And it speaks volumes that Chris Rock couldn't help himself enough to not beat the shit out of Rhianna behind closed doors but managed to keep his hands to himself when he was slapped by a man in public. hmm

There's a whole lot of confusing Chris Rock with other people going on in this thread...

romatheroamer · 28/03/2022 16:06

Wow 34 pages and the first item on the news headlines before Ukraine!!
Glad we've got our priorities right.

@Idonkt

'He didn't punch him, he slapped him, and he did not slap him hard, he didn't knock him to the ground'

Would you say that if he had hit Amy Schumer?

course in an ideal world he would not have reacted in such a manner but he got caught up in the heat of the moment, and reacted, he's human not perfect just human

Or that? If not, why?

This wasn't a physical two way 'fight', it was one person surprising the other with a smack around the face, so the fact the victim of that smack was a male doesn't make any difference. Receiving a shock smack to the face hurts as much whether you're male or female. Being a male means you would be more likely to successfully overpower the smacker or stop them repeating it, but this wasn't a 'fight' it was one perpetrator and one unsuspecting recipient aka a victim.

So would you still have said what you said above if he had hit Amy Schumer if she had said the same thing Rock did?

If not, why not?

@oldwhyno

Jada Pinkett Smith should be ashamed for what she's done/doing to Will. She has hollowed him out to the point of this.
I've missed something. What has Jada done to Will that has made him, poor innocent man, publicly violent?
Lampzade · 28/03/2022 16:10

@PutinSmellsPassItOn

He deserved it.

???????? Wrong Chris

Mel Gibson punching Gervais ok? I mean that one I might be willing to watch

@BoredZelda

Just busily screen-shotting some of the absolute gold on here in case the thread is deleted . . .

What a bizarre response.

Would the Oscar’s be in the headlines?

Don’t be silly. The Oscars are always all over the news.

The Oscars would not be making headline news but for Will Smith’s actions. The ceremony has become stale, but that one moment propelled it enormously.

The Brit Awards (when it was great) used to be full of incidents like this. Now it’s humdrum like the others.

During the ceremony last night three film critics on BBC News were talking about it needing someone from a show like American Idol to come and run it...this was before Will Smith did his thing. The days of the Oscars (and other awards ceremonies) generating interest just based on handing out awards are over...it’s due to this that I was sceptical about this incident being genuine as it gave the event what it needed in terms of higher profile.

Fucking hell.

Women are not responsible for regulating men's behaviour.

As a follow on, Ricky Gervais has saved the Golden Globes. He is precisely what awards shows need now.

Imagine if he'd walked up to Rock, taken the mic and said you apologise to my wife NOW. That would have been a more powerful message than a slap, shouting, swearing. Making him apologise in front of millions of viewers instead of what he actually did, which was make it all about himself look at me big man hitting this guy to defend my wife. I'd be so ashamed if my Lerner 'defended' me in such a thuggish manner.

That would have been awesome.
@FixItUpChappie

Really? For a small slap? I’ve seen altercations in public and they’ve never been “escorted” anywhere we don’t have the security or the police for a start.

Love the optimism though.

It was very offensive not “barely”. I wonder if you would think that if it was a white woman. Would she be allowed to be more offended?
I really don't understand what race has to do with this particular incident, all three people involved are black

Smokeahontas · 28/03/2022 16:22

You cannot get up and lamp someone, the violence is inexcusable. Plenty of other days to deal with it than resorting to what happened.

SmellyOldOwls · 28/03/2022 16:22

Surely they couldn't have persuaded Will Smith to fake that? Or was it, you can have an Oscar but you have to do this awful thing for publicity that makes everyone think you're a dick. Even then, he's always been a family friendly sort of bloke, it would have to take a massive bribe to break that image.

@MollyRover

Something really off about Chris Rock in general, I remember seeing him on Graham Norton once and his attitude towards women was pretty disgusting. Wouldn't surprise me if there was genuine animosity there. Chris Rock is just not funny either, real "lowest common denominator" comedy in my opinion.
Yeah he’s grim.

I think WS was in shock and did that thing where you laugh and then the adrenaline took over.

Eyedropeyeflop · 28/03/2022 16:26

I wouldn’t be ashamed of my partner if he did that (display a human emotion that isn’t desirable, but nonetheless still very much human).

Disappointed maybe but not ashamed.

@okayigetit

It doesn’t matter that all of them were black.
If he was openly dissing a white womans bald head the public would probably have more sympathy for WS. Don’t believe that if you don’t want too but it’s true.

Lampzade · 28/03/2022 16:27

Now, I don’t like Chris Rock. He is simply not funny. However, I am not convinced that he knew about Jada’s alopecia. She has always often rocked short cropped hair ( she has beautiful features, so it suits her).
She has always been slightly edgy and wacky so it would not be a surprise to many that she would shave her head.
I am almost positive that Chris Rock will put out a statement saying that he was not aware of her condition and that he thought that she deliberately shaved her hair. He may even have thought that he was complimenting her by comparing her to Demi Moore’s character, who is strong and independent.
I think that Jada took umbrage because the comment was made by Chris Rock( who made Jada a target of his so called ‘jokes’ in 2016 Oscars). So there is some history of his picking in her
I think that Chris Rock is a misogynistic prick.
However, I do feel that WS handled the whole thing incorrectly and it tarnished his Oscar win

5zeds · 28/03/2022 16:33

Exactly. CR would have had to apologise, and WS Oscar would have been testimony to him being the better man not tarnished with "isn't that when he smacked Chris Rock cos of a joke? %"
JMAngel1 · 28/03/2022 16:37

I say fair play - Jada has alopecia - her hair is not a style statement. Will was being over protective but clearly Jada has been very upset about her condition.

Eyedropeyeflop · 28/03/2022 16:38

It has now come to light the joke was not approved by Oscar bosses prior to going live on air. CR clearly kept the gag for the live as he knew it was inappropriate.

unname · 28/03/2022 16:38

@PferdeMerde

Jada was humiliated twice last night. These 2 grown men are pathetic creeps.
They each may have humiliated themselves.

I really get irritated when someone tells me I must have felt humiliated by another person's behavior. No one gets to decide if I am or felt humiliated by some other person's actions.

As far as I could see she behaved with dignity.
