@PutinSmellsPassItOn

I'll let him off then.

Still think he deserved it tho, publicly mocking someone because of something they can't help when they have nowhere to hide is not ok. I hope his mum gave him a slap as well.

Careful, you might be accused of being predispose to violence for such a remark Wink
@BeHappy91818 no, they don't.

What the fuck is wrong with people on this thread?

My first boyfriend was easily offended and said I wound him up on purpose. That was his excuse for giving me a slap. Did I deserve it then??
According to this thread, it appears so.
Truly tragic reading.

Quick question -

Rebel Wilson getting slapped by Daniel Craig ok?
Rebel Wilson getting slapped by Megah ok?
Mel Gibson punching Gervais ok?

Just tyring to figure out where the line in the sand is for future dispute resolution.

BeHappy91818 · 28/03/2022 15:46

@fromdownwest

I have no idea what went on between any of those celebrities you mentions so I am unable to answer.

CremeEggThief · 28/03/2022 15:47

YABU to call it a punch, mind.

I live in an area where adults sometimes go for each other in the street when they have issues with each other, or have prearranged scraps, and round here everyone would have been laughing their heads off at the notion of that being a fight.Grin

Eyedropeyeflop · 28/03/2022 15:49

Some people definitely do deserve a slap.

Doubleraspberry · 28/03/2022 15:49

Just trying to figure out where the line in the sand is for future dispute resolution.

Indeed. Where in the continuum do we go from person deserving a aggressive slap to one who doesn't? Where would the police say it was?

Eyedropeyeflop · 28/03/2022 15:51

@BeHappy91818

People can’t think differently for different scenarios on this thread.

Apparently if you agree with Chris deserving the slap you agree with systemic, ongoing domestic violence. There is no naunced conversations to be had on mumsnet.

It’s run entirely on black and white thinking. There are never any shades of grey.

FixItUpChappie · 28/03/2022 15:52

Regular folk would have been escorted from the building not given a standing ovationConfused

As if his ikle widdle little wifey needed her big strong man to protect her from an off the cuff barely offensive joke Hmm

ihavespoken · 28/03/2022 15:52

@PutinSmellsPassItOn

He deserved it.

And it speaks volumes that Chris Rock couldn't help himself enough to not beat the shit out of Rhianna behind closed doors but managed to keep his hands to himself when he was slapped by a man in public. Hmm

Errrr. Do you mean Chris Brown? Shock

It wasn't a fight because a fight normally involves 2 people. They weren't going for each other Will Smith went for Chris Rock. Nobody is saying that it was a fight or that it was the most violent thing they have ever seen but it was still unacceptable. You don't hit people because they say something that you don't like no matter how cruel it is. Society would collapse if we all went around slapping each other because our feeling got hurt.

Oh for goodness sake you know fine well it was meant as an insult.

She isn’t bald through choice.
To be honest she isn't actually bald at all, she has hair it's just very short

They all got publically ridiculed by a comedian at an awards ceremony.

Or perhaps you think normalising violence as a high profile glamorous event doesn't help the problems of violence in society? That might be considered a nuanced argument though.

Eyedropeyeflop · 28/03/2022 15:57

@FixItUpChappie

Really? For a small slap? I’ve seen altercations in public and they’ve never been “escorted” anywhere we don’t have the security or the police for a start.

Love the optimism though.

It was very offensive not “barely”. I wonder if you would think that if it was a white woman. Would she be allowed to be more offended?

It's not in public. It's at an event with controlled entry and rules of conduct. They're not in the street.

oldwhyno · 28/03/2022 15:59

Jada Pinkett Smith should be ashamed for what she's done/doing to Will. She has hollowed him out to the point of this.

BoldMove · 28/03/2022 16:00

He laughed then noticed his wifes reaction so then acted differently. Joke was in poor taste but the slap/punch was uncalled for. Crying speech was a performance to get people on side. Funny how the first person he turned to was his publicist. Just trying to save his own skin as were all the celebs who claimed not to have seen it. Not a genuine person amongst them.

Ocsetldil · 28/03/2022 16:00

Say what????

Riiiiiight. Blame the woman Hmm

The only person responsible for slapping Chris Rock is Will Smith.

Bunnyfuller · 28/03/2022 16:02

Will looked like he is really struggling with something. The old Will would’ve given some smart smack talk to put Chris Rock down.

He was not behaving normally at all

Jesus Christ.

Are people taking the piss or are we actually just seeing outright 'they all look the same' racism today?

Chris Rock isn't Chris Brown. Or Dave Chapelle.

HTH.

FixItUpChappie · 28/03/2022 16:03

"Would she be allowed to be more offended?"

I think the joke was barely anything that is my opinion. She can be as offended as she likes. It's not a criminal offence to offend people, though you would hardly know it from the current state of our society, it IS a criminal offence to assault a person.

Hmm Yes, mean old Jada, making Will Smith stay with her and slap Oscar presenters who offend her…
SueSaid · 28/03/2022 16:04

'To be honest she isn't actually bald at all, she has hair it's just very short'
Yes I'm a bit baffled by the alopecia thing she seems to have the same hair do as her dd, a buzz cut/ shaved head not actually bald. That said mocking is never cool or clever but it is what comedians do.

MintyGreenDream · 28/03/2022 16:05

Is this he first time anything like this has happened at a high profile event? Cant think of another time.Happy to be corrected though
