Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Omg I was stuck on 990 (and tons of lower greens) for ages (having managed to start early today thank god - my post-work brain is useless at this!) and I thought I’d tried ever single synonym to every meaning of 990 but then I resorted to a thesaurus and there were 2 I hadn’t thought of and which one was the answer was very clear to me after the gentle hints on this thread again, thank you all!

My 1st green was 877 which makes a change (my first greens are usually in the 100s which always sends me on the wrong track!) and definitely helped. So pleased to be done with this today after yesterday’s debacle!

I solved Semantle #52 in 60 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 16.09. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #22. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 13.62. semantle.novalis.org/

I got a bizarre green at 594 that took me nowhere…then I got to 990. Going round versions of 990 and getting greens related to that but no closer.

And really I only got 879 because I typed a longer word that rhymes with it, then thought why not try that.

Got it with a random guess - nothing higher than 756. Wordlist is ridiculous today.

That was a weird one. Cold for 50, got 879 out of the blue and after a couple of other random stabs in the dark suddenly got it with what was, in retrospect, a really obvious link.

Struggling with this one! Got 804 and 256, and can't get anything else!

I hit the vein of green, up to the 990s and was running out of terms/words

Yay! Got it in 108 with no clues. I had 879 for ages with nothing else coming close. Then tried 555 and 717 and got it from there. Rather pleased with myself after yesterday’s word-blindness.

@InMySpareTime I went down the object route for ages!!

@Wallawallakoala I was surprised how many examples of the object I named before realising I was far too specific!
36 greens and 2 ???? Before I got there (but still better than yesterday)

I have to say that it would have taken me a lifetime to work out the answer from 990 myself.
