Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I solved Semantle #51 in 11 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.02. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #6. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.20. semantle.novalis.org/

Guess 22 got me 778 which was a bit of a tangent. Took to guess 76 to get me any higher (955)

First time I've managed it without any outside help. Go me!

Took ages to find one in the top 1000 but fairly quick after that. I even put in a word that came back with question marks as an "unusual word found". Has anyone else had that before?

If you think about 880 as a certain type of place - that might get you closer.

Or if you’re thinking of the more usual meaning of 880 - how do people know about 880 and its use.

I solved Semantle #51 in 130 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 1.83. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #46. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 29.95 (476/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I didn't need to brush my teeth, but I did need to step away from semantle for a bit.

Can I give one hint to help those still suffering...

You know how the answer is normally a terribly simple word like 'meet' , 'circle', 'sky' or 'pot'. And yet, remember the lunacy that was 'surrounding'.

Today it's a common word, but not a truly 'simple' English word. Don't rule out those elaborate words in your guesses.

So my highest green is now 987, with a similarity of 57.03. But higher than that I have a ???? with a similarity of 61.65! What's that all about!

God this is my worst yet. I got bloody 993 pretty early on and now also have 995 and 996 and it still isn’t helping. 993 ffs! Ridiculous word.
