Semantle thread 4 is almost full and there's still plenty of love (and hate 🤣) for the game, so here's a new thread for Sunday's game.

If you're lucky enough not to know what I'm on about Semantle is a word game like Wordle. You need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics, not letters. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

I solved Semantle #51 in 94 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of -0.92. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #14. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 24.69. semantle.novalis.org/

Please can someone tell me if I am on the right track? I have 811, 809, 727, 637, 606, 439, 353, 109.

I'd suggest focussing around 353 and 811 - the others will take you down the wrong track.

I solved Semantle #51 in 23 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 5.53. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #11. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 23.66.

27 guesses, ~4 minutes. Many MNers should find it quick today.

@MrsElm Think about contexts in which you might use an 809, or what sorts of places might have an 811 (I think 811-somethings are generally called something else now and there are a lot of them, and they’re sometimes a bit controversial)

I definitely need more 995 today as I'm still stuck! Its obvious isn't it?

I had 995 at guess #22 but it still took me to guess #174. Bastarding game!

I think those of us who’ve got it quickly got lucky with 970.

The 995ers I would say, this is a means by which 995 is delivered.

Woops just saw similar but different clue further up. Won’t be more specific as it’s pretty early yet.

I think the clues here make me more frustrated especially when I see other people getting it after the clues and I’m still floundering or going backwards!

Just seen all the clues... would've got it much sooner if I'd looked on here before I solved it, but I only tend to do that if I'm really stuck and I hadn't yet got to that stage.

Got my 1st green word at guess #20 and went up from there quite steadily, as you can see from my screenshot.

Once again I only got it in conjunction with the clues. I think without this thread I’d never get anywhere.

I should pay it forward with more clues but I’m crap at them! Will try.

Although I’m another one who has a personal reason that the answer should have been much more obvious to me.
