Things I’ve just learnt

I just found out you can’t put a chopping board in the dishwasher unless you want it to break 😕

as my family are now laughing at me, it made me wonder what other things have people learnt in adulthood that maybe others assume should be intrinsically known?

Wooden items never fare that well in the dishwasher tbh

Apparently you shouldn’t put anything wooden in there at all 😔 I just had no idea

Well the middle bit looks OK op, you've just slimmed it down a bit

I always put mine in! Which will clearly now break if I put them in again.

1. That split peas cooked in a pressure cooker take a lot less time than i thought to cook
2. That overfilling a pressure cooker can cause it to malfunction
3. That wearing split peas is not a great look
4. That cleaning split peas off the ceiling -and every other bastard surface in a kitchen- is bloody hard work

When this little piggy went to market, he wasn’t popping off down to the shops

DP learnt today that you shouldn’t dry spilt water on the sofa by holding a hairdryer directly against it or you’ll end up burning the sofa 🤦🏼‍♀️ He is so so lucky we are due to move soon and won’t be taking this sofa with us or I’d have been fuming. It’s only a few years old though so could have fetched a bit of money second hand.

I was 35 when I found out that capers are not tiny fish. 35.

That mistletoe is a parasitic plant and doesn’t grow as it’s own tree / bush.

(I also did the wooden chopping board in the dishwasher thing - had no idea either!)

Yep 👋 checking in here too. I lost a chopping board after putting it in the dishwasher 🤦‍♀️

Ooh can I share? Despite having a degree in English, a PGCE in primary teaching and working in clerical/admin jobs for a few years, I only recently learned that if you look closely at type you can tell the difference between 0 and O! I'm mid-40s and it's blown my mind!

StorminaBcup Dd and I had a similar conversation driving into Bristol on the A4. She asked if those were 'Misiltoe trees' and I explained it. However it is quite weird as mistletoe is only supposed to grow in areas devoid of pollution, the A4 is certainly not one.
