I just found out you can’t put a chopping board in the dishwasher unless you want it to break 😕

as my family are now laughing at me, it made me wonder what other things have people learnt in adulthood that maybe others assume should be intrinsically known?

@Timeturnerplease

My sister just couldn’t compute that North isn’t always ‘forward’ when she was learning to drive. She’s a highly intelligent and successful individual but this concept just escaped her.
Is there a possibility that your sister is magnetic? Might explain it. Wink

I had no idea until recently that if you peeled off the full top sticky lint roller paper there were new sheets underneath. I have thrown loads away over the years thinking they were a bit crap. 🙄
Also that sawdust is actually dust from a saw! 🙄

Did you think they were single use? Grin

Purpleflower - yes! Honestly I can't believe I was such an utter dope.

Mumdiva99 · 20/03/2022 10:52

That the Moet in Moet & chanson is pronounced Mo-et not Moway. (I got this from another thread....but it is also possible I read it 15 pages ago on here....went to sleep and forgot it was this thread!! So apologies I it's a duplicate point).

Oh wow. Such an expensive misunderstanding!

I was going to say that it was because of the two dots on the e, making the o and e separate sounds rather than a dipthong, but I've just looked it up and I was totally wrong as well. Wikipedia says it's because the founders were Dutch. Moët & Chandon
Mumdiva99 · 20/03/2022 13:44

@gwenhwyfar I also googled it!! And apparently if you are in a bar asking for Mo-ay you show your MC roots!! Good job I prefer Verve or Bolly!!! (Just kidding it's usually just a glass of Cava with my purse.)

How to pronounce Lladro its Yadro

bubbleblower85 · 20/03/2022 18:51

@Soubriquet

When this little piggy went to market, he wasn’t popping off down to the shops Wink
Ok, I am obviously daft but I don't get this? Do you mean piggy was going to the market to be killed/sold?
Miriamkiwi · 28/03/2022 03:18

Wooden spoon hasn't complained yet!!!

Dairyqueenie · 27/04/2022 21:36

It only recently clicked for me that gherkins are small pickled cucumbers. I thought a gherkin was a vegetable in its own right! 🤦‍♀️

DadDadDad · 27/04/2022 23:28

@Dairyqueenie - that's something I've only learnt in recent years.

What I'm really curious about is how you found this thread, given no-one's posted for a month?
