Help decipher writing old baptism certificate

SophiesMummySaid · 12/03/2022 15:08

If any super sleuths can help I’d be very grateful.

This baptism certificate is from an old, old biscuit tin that used to live in my Great-Granny’s house.

We don’t know much about her (Great Granny’s) family history/ ancestry and are trying to piece together some information from this tin of old photos and papers.

Can anyone read the name of the child being baptised??

Minnie Mcauley?, I think both the first letters are M.

Thoosa · 12/03/2022 15:11

Clemence? It is an incredibly unclear one.

McGaughey as the surname??

JungleRed · 12/03/2022 15:12

The surname looks like McCauley. Can't tell the first name though.

PangolinPie · 12/03/2022 15:12

Looks like Minnie to me? The dot for the i is off to one side.

SirVixofVixHall · 12/03/2022 15:13

Hmm. Definitely a capital M, then it looks like Merr , then possibly ce, or ci ?
What is the year ? I can look her up on ancestry if you like.

Justkeeppedaling · 12/03/2022 15:14

I doubt a child at that time would be christened Minnie. It's an nn for Whelemina.

Could it be an Irish name?

SirVixofVixHall · 12/03/2022 15:14

Agree it could be Minnie, although they read more an an r to me than a n. Eg Merrie /Marrie.

LubaLuca · 12/03/2022 15:15

Merrie McCauley?

Justkeeppedaling · 12/03/2022 15:15

Looks like Merree. Is that a name?

SirVixofVixHall · 12/03/2022 15:15

Oh sorry I can see the year, I wasn’t paying enough attention.

3beesinmybonnet · 12/03/2022 15:16

I thought Minnie as well. I have a Minnie in my family tree from a decade or so earlier.

Comefromaway · 12/03/2022 15:16

I thought Marnie perhaps?

MissNothing1991 · 12/03/2022 15:17

Marnie possibly?

Notgotanyidea · 12/03/2022 15:17

Do you have the parents names? Happy to look it up on ancestry for you?

MadameFantabulosa · 12/03/2022 15:17

Minnie.

wizzler · 12/03/2022 15:18

Merrill

VaddaABeetch · 12/03/2022 15:20

I can see McCauley but also McGrady? Also William as the first name?

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 12/03/2022 15:20

Undecided on letters 3 & 4 but Minnie McCauly looks possible.
Wilhelmina would be an interesting choice 2 years after WW1 and Kaiser Wilhelm.

nearlyspringyay · 12/03/2022 15:22

Clemie?

SarahDippity · 12/03/2022 15:22

I’d be surprised if it was a pet name like Minnie on a baptismal cert. Although I can’t suggest an alternative, and it definitely looks like it.

I think the last name is McGrealey.

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2022 15:22

I'm seeing Marnie McGrady

Nnique · 12/03/2022 15:23

I think it’s Marnie.

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2022 15:23

@DramaAlpaca

I'm seeing Marnie McGrady
Or McGrealey
