Semantle Chapter 2

Since the madness of our love/hate affair with Semantle is continuing, I thought I start a second thread. Why worry about the goings on in the world when you can pull your hair out over vocabulary?

To umderstand what I'm on about follow this link. It's a word game like Wordle in that you need to find the secret word of the day, but it works by semantics. So you input a word and it will tell you how close you are. You have infinite guesses.

For example, one of the secret words was 'costly' with expensive, cumbersome and burdensome being the three closest words.

Closest I can get is 796. Is it related to that word much?

@BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz the word can be 796 in a broad descriptive sense.
@FooFighter99 think broader, what if 988 went all the way?

Thanks to @Roxyloxy word no.943, which really helped as I was thinking more technical and stuck on the wrong path.

I solved Semantle #38 in 156 guesses. My first guess had a similarity of 3.50. My first word in the top 1000 was at guess #24. My penultimate guess had a similarity of 44.70 (993/1000). semantle.novalis.org/

I'm stuck on 994, and would really appreciate a clue, as everything I try is below it!

I still only have 952, 935 and 901 in the top hundred. They're all incredibly vague! And I've never blooming been to centreparcs either. Please someone PM me a hint!

Made it up to 999 - why is that final step always so tricky?!

I don't have any of those words and am on the app so can't pm.

But a general hint... today a lot of the words in the top 1000 are variations of each other. For instance I have word 40 and word 601 and the only difference is one letter on the end.

So my advice is to try all the variations of the green words you have and see if it helps you get higher up.

Honestly, I swear I thought I’d tried every version except that one!

Argh I’m still no further than 962, got a few more greens but all lower - and all leading me in a specific direction but I’m out of further ideas for that.

Driving me mad.

Run out of like-for-likes on my theme and all my tangents are cold. Really annoying today.

Bit harder today, had to get the online thesaurus out. I'm beginning to think the real key thing is not to overthink it.

I hate today's! Still no closer. Everything I'm guessing is cold. Fucksake.

994 won't help at all. Do you have 993? That's much more like it. Honestly, so many of the high number words are rubbish I don't know what they were thinking.

I have 991, is that any good?

What kind of a thing is 879?

991 and 994 are similar. It's a vague kind of word in that context.
