Who Does Pancake Day?

I have to admit, Shrove Tuesday has sneaked up on me this year. I have eggs, flour & milk but no toppings to speak of. Do you all have pancakes on the day or maybe wait til the weekend? DD13 hasn’t mentioned it & I guess it’s more of a big deal for younger kids. We used to have pancake races etc at Brownies or Guides.

Yes! It's fun and delicious, a lovely tradition.

Chasingsquirrels · 28/02/2022 18:45

We do pancakes whenever we feel like it (sometimes frequently, sometimes bot for months), I had some one Sunday morning.
Always have a bottle of lemon juice in, or chocolate spread and squirty cream, honey, syrup etc.

mamaduckbone · 28/02/2022 18:46

Yes, always! We will have them for pudding tomorrow - Nutella, syrup, lemons and oranges, bananas and strawberries all ready and waiting 😋😋(Dcs are 16 and 12)

Yes on the day here too

Chewbecca · 28/02/2022 18:46

Yes - only with lemon and sugar

WheelieBinPrincess · 28/02/2022 18:47

Always, but savoury for me- Gouda and ham is a favourite.

emmathedilemma · 28/02/2022 18:48

Unless you observe lent i don't really see the point, and as for the pancake mix that's all over the supermarkets......totally missing the point of shrove Tuesday!

Unexpecteddrivinginstructor · 28/02/2022 18:49

Yes we do but in the evening, could you get something in tomorrow or maybe get some alternative options!

gogohm · 28/02/2022 18:50

Yes, the traditional way - crepes, sugar and lemon juice

CurryLover56 · 28/02/2022 18:51

DD is a massive fan of honey, golden syrup & maple syrup. She’s school refusing so I guess I could do them at lunchtime once I’ve bought some toppings.

Yes ! Bacon and maple syrup all the way here .

lollipoprainbow · 28/02/2022 18:51

We do. I peaked too soon this year as I was convinced pancake day was on 15th feb ! We're having them again tomorrow.

CatNamedEaster · 28/02/2022 18:52

We do! DS has food allergies and pancakes were the first recipe I tried that worked for him, so now I try to perfect the recipe at least once a month.Wink

Ragwort · 28/02/2022 18:52

I am going to a pancake part tomorrow (I am 63 Grin)!

ExactlyThis · 28/02/2022 18:53

Always.

I am a sugar only girl although my DC like Nutella and berries.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/02/2022 18:54

Just had them. Tomorrow DH will be at work and DDs and I will be at Cubs.
We do them as close to shrove Tuesday as we can.

CatNamedEaster · 28/02/2022 18:54

I heard the Rev Kate on Radio 2 on Sunday saying that not only does she do pancakes but she also says to get in the spirit you should eat loads of other yummy stuff on the day to use it all up before you give it up for Lent. Liking that idea.Grin

BooksAndHooks · 28/02/2022 18:55

Always. I ordered everything g in advance but Tesco turned up with no flour, no lemons so went out today and stocked up on extra toppings as well. Have never missed a pancake day.

CourtRand · 28/02/2022 18:57

Do it every year with sugar, lemon juice and golden syrup. Usually have them in the cupboard

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 28/02/2022 18:57

Toppings we had available

  • ham and cheese
  • apple, cinnamon and sultanas (stewed together like fir a crumble)
  • Nutella
-jam
  • maple syrup

We usually have yoghurt and berries available too.

Okbutnotgreat · 28/02/2022 18:58

Never been allowed to miss it so maple syrup, lemon and sugar and Nutella here tomorrow. Breakfast and dinner too, it’s a full on pancake day.

PlanetNormal · 28/02/2022 18:59

IDGAF about lent, but we do pancake day anyway because pancakes are yummy and it’s something different to have on a bog-standard winter evening.

DementedPanda · 28/02/2022 19:01

We don't do it, but the kids regularly have homemade pancakes for breakfast.

FaceLikeASlappedAss · 28/02/2022 19:01

Yes. Teen prefers doing them now more than when younger

Hedgesgalore · 28/02/2022 19:02

Aga pancakes Smile
