Who Does Pancake Day?

I have to admit, Shrove Tuesday has sneaked up on me this year. I have eggs, flour & milk but no toppings to speak of. Do you all have pancakes on the day or maybe wait til the weekend? DD13 hasn’t mentioned it & I guess it’s more of a big deal for younger kids. We used to have pancake races etc at Brownies or Guides.

Unless ds can persuade his grandma, it aint happening here

We will do a few crepes in the evening. Love the traditional lemon and sugar but will also indulge in a chocolate and berry one. Used to be a big thing when we were younger but pancakes (although more American style) are a part of our regular weekend breakfast menu so less novel.

Having to make ours dairy free again this year as breastfeeding another allergy baby.

We make American pancakes on the day. Toppings will be chocolate chips, Nutella, strawberry’s, raspberries, bananas and honey.

We have pancakes every Sunday morning. DH isn't a good cook generally, but he doesn't great pancakes. We'll be having them on Shrove Tuesday. Possibly savoury with cheese and beans, and definitely with sugar and lemon.

ODFOx · 28/02/2022 23:17

DH is not a fan but I've bought some of the American ones for teen breakfast, crisped up a few rashers if bacon for her to reheat, and bought maple syrup. I'm wfh so will take a break to make proper pancakes for them to eat at 4 with sugar and lemon after college. Then DD has work and DS will have dinner (pancake free) with DH and I later, if he still has room.
When they were all small id stand there for well over an hour churning out pancakes, 2 pans at once, while they queued in the kitchen. Happy memories!

We have them but only with lemon and sugar. Very occasionally golden syrup and lemon.

Empressofthemundane · 01/03/2022 00:05

Definitely! It’s like a night I off from cooking! Just bacon and pancakes with butter and maple syrup.

@emmathedilemma

Unless you observe lent i don't really see the point, and as for the pancake mix that's all over the supermarkets......totally missing the point of shrove Tuesday!
@emmathedilemma I assume you miss the point of Christmas and Easter too?
The2Omicronnies · 01/03/2022 06:51

Yes, we’ll have them for pudding after a light dinner. Pancakes are the one thing I cannot seem to get right, so I leave it to my husband to do and it’s bliss!

CirreltheSquirrel · 01/03/2022 06:59

Yes! I've just made some batter ready for when I get home from work this evening, and did some baked plums last night to top the sweet ones with.

GeneLovesJezebel · 01/03/2022 07:00

Me !
Love a pancake with lemon and sugar 😋

savehannah · 01/03/2022 07:00

Yes always. Breakfast and dinner! Always have lemon juice and sugar, golden syrup, jam and Nutella so no need to buy anything here!

BaconAndAvocado · 01/03/2022 08:43

Love pancake day!
DCs always have a go at flipping the pancakes and I legitimately get to call DH the best tosser ever 😂
