Who Does Pancake Day?

I have to admit, Shrove Tuesday has sneaked up on me this year. I have eggs, flour & milk but no toppings to speak of. Do you all have pancakes on the day or maybe wait til the weekend? DD13 hasn’t mentioned it & I guess it’s more of a big deal for younger kids. We used to have pancake races etc at Brownies or Guides.

We have weekly pancakes! Love them!

mathanxiety · 28/02/2022 19:10

Yes, on the day, with lemon and sugar.

We will also be celebrating Paczki Day here.

So many carbs..

Bigboysmademedoit · 28/02/2022 19:15

I’ve buttermilk and soda bread flour ready! Maple syrup here.

@CurryLover56

DD is a massive fan of honey, golden syrup & maple syrup. She’s school refusing so I guess I could do them at lunchtime once I’ve bought some toppings.
Sorry your child refuses to go to school so you reward them with lunchtime pancakes??
TwoCoffeesPlease · 28/02/2022 19:17

We always had them instead of dinner as children. Some years we had them as pudding but you don’t get to eat as many that way. Just me and DP and I’ve bought lemon, sugar, maple syrup and some salted caramel pouring sauce

bluesugar · 28/02/2022 19:22

Special day in our house. A lovely tradition. Tomorrow will be my grandsons first pancake day Smile

MangoLipstick · 28/02/2022 19:22

Yep! It’s just abit of fun isn’t it.
We sometimes have pancakes for breakfast at the weekend , with bacon and maple syrup, but tomorrow we will be having cherries, ice cream, bananas and Nutella , maybe some squirty cream.
That will be our tea though!

TheGriffle · 28/02/2022 19:25

Crepe style pancakes with lemon sugar and maybe vanilla ice cream and American style pancakes with bacon and maple syrup are my favourites.

I think I only have the stuff for crepes with lemon and sugar though so it will have to do as can’t get to a shop before tomorrow night.

bettertocryinamercedes · 28/02/2022 19:26

We do them for dinner - savoury first then sweet!

But also thinking my dd wouldn't be going to be cinema or getting pancakes if she wasn't going to school!!

mumda · 28/02/2022 19:28

We do.
Whenever I fancy pancakes to be honest.all this nonsense about once a year.
We had some last week.

Roselilly36 · 28/02/2022 19:30

I always make pancakes on pancake day, traditional lemon & sugar usually. A mum never, ever made pancakes for us, so I have always made sure my children don’t miss out.

CountUpToTwenty · 28/02/2022 19:32

Some children refuse school because their needs are not met there. Or they may have complex mental health issues. With-holding pancakes is not going to magically make that better!

CountUpToTwenty · 28/02/2022 19:33

Sorry @mumda I quoted your post by accident. Apologies.

AuntieMarys · 28/02/2022 19:33

I've never liked them so never make them!

liveforsummer · 28/02/2022 19:36

We like savoury pancakes too so it's a good reminder that it's a fantastic 2/3 course meal. Garlic chicken with onions, bakes spinach and ricotta or simply grated cheese and cucumber are all good. We always have lemon juice/sugar, jam, usually some chocolate spread in too

catwithflowers · 28/02/2022 19:36

Definitely. But thin style crepes (fab recipe on BBC Good Food!). Served with lemon and sugar. Delicious!

Pascha · 28/02/2022 19:37

Mine don't like them much so I'm off the hook.

lollipoprainbow · 28/02/2022 19:38

@JovialNickname judgmental much?

hellcatspangle · 28/02/2022 19:38

Yes...even though the kids are grown up. One is back for a few days and I've already had the "you do know it's pancake day tomorrow?!"

lollipoprainbow · 28/02/2022 19:39

@bettertocryinamercedes where was the cinema mentioned ?!

Liveandkicking · 28/02/2022 19:39

Always. We don’t have dinner- just loads of delicious pancakes. Kids love it.

ComDummings · 28/02/2022 19:40

@AuntieMarys

I've never liked them so never make them!
Same for us!
Frannibananni · 28/02/2022 19:42

Our school does for everyone so that’s great - I don’t have to do it but have to remind everyone to leave early if they want them. obvs religious school.

megletthesecond · 28/02/2022 19:42

Yes. We're very busy tomorrow so I've gone over to the dark side and bought pre-made pancakes.
