Student loan refund

Just thought I would share this as I know a lot of people are struggling just now and I only found out about it recently.

If you have a student loan with SLC and don't make the repayment threshold for the year then you can claim back payments you have made. You can find the threshold limits on the gov website. I think in scotland it's £25k. If you get a refund then it means the balance goes back onto your loan so that's something to think of. I called today and they could go back about 10 years and check it was very simple.

Wow! They were super grumpy when I called - wouldn’t let me give previous addresses just said the one we have isn’t that you need to write to us!!!

That's so odd, I was never asked my address. I would suggest ringing back again if you can in the hope you get a less stroppy person.

I wasn't asked for address, email, phone number. Just name, dob and NI number, & the lady was super helpful. Is this the number you called - 03001000611?

Hi yes that’s the number I called. Automated system asked for reference number persistently (don’t know it) then put me through to someone. Hope I don’t get him again he wasn’t very helpful at all!

Just coming on to say that I didn’t know my CRN or my secret answer but I also must have got a stroppy person Hmm
Asked a lot of security questions which I answered but I haven’t kept my account up to date as it’s from nearly 20 years ago.
Telephone number that’s on the system… I was unable to answer so I too have to write a letter with all details from the last 20 years including house moves.
Does anyone know how far back they can go?

Was it a man ? There is no limit as to how far back they can go I don’t think. I didn’t know any of that either. I’m going to call again later and hope I get someone nicer but I’ve prepared a letter to post if that fails Blush

I wonder if they are getting lots of these calls
And are now fed up.
