Apologies, couldn’t see a thread about this.

Just seen the most horrendous video of a West Ham footballer drop kicking his cat Shock across the room, then throwing things at it, then slapping it out of someone’s arms.

(Link to video mobile.twitter.com/emilyhewertson/status/1490811894197886981?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet)

It’s being published by the sun, but what I don’t understand is, why when (quite rightly) the lady who slapped the horse was sacked, all West Ham have said was that they “have spoken to him and will deal with internally”.

This is horrendous! The poor cat

It’s getting really bloody boring and is doing nothing whatsoever to enamour me to making changes in my life. Ultimately, I will come to my own decision, but their posts are definitely showing me how not to communicate if and when I make that decision.

It’s totally possible to express anger at one specific situation without having fixed all the other bloody problems in the world first. One step at a time and all that!

ABitBesottedWithMyDog · 12/02/2022 16:47

Learn some compassion for all animals, not just the cute furry ones.

This is certainly a good message, however much you'll be mocked for it on Mumsnet.

(I do buy meat for my pets and make no particular claims to virtue.)

Furries · 12/02/2022 16:54

@Fridafever - am pretty sure that, if they’re doing things properly, then everything they eat is grown in their own garden and so they play no part in any ploughing of fields!

Anyway, back to the point of the thread. I hope the two cats have been getting lots of love.

I’m not a huge fan of her, but Amanda Platell wrote today about her rescue cat who is now 9. She rescued him as a kitten from Battersea. He’d been subjected to an initiation ceremony where he had been held by his front legs, his body lowered into boiling water and then a cross was cut into his stomach. Some people are just sick.

Fridafever · 12/02/2022 16:55

The thing is if you really decided to treat all animal suffering as equal then the only rational response is either to kill yourself or decide it’s all equally not your concern. In a world of wasps laying eggs in live caterpillars and fields of insects being ploughed and so on the logical, cold non hypocritical answer is what difference does a cat getting kicked or a chicken being kept in a crate.

I “own” my hypocrisy I suppose if you want to put it that way. I don’t do dairy, I eat small amounts of organic meat and wild fish. I don’t abuse pets or use pesticides in my garden. I do kill head lice.

Yes it’s all a bit of a jumble but as I said I can’t see a realistic alternative to this approach really.

Furries · 12/02/2022 17:01

@Fridafever - spot on. My diet is pretty much identical to you. I also don’t abuse pets.

The constant it’s all or nothing shouting about this type of situation doesn’t do anyone any favours.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 12/02/2022 17:04

@Appletreechocolatecake

Agree purplehairlady. The hypocrisy on this thread is sickening.

There is NO DIFFERENCE between the cruelty shown to the cats and the violent, torturous cruelty enacted on the animals you eat. Whether it’s the pig that was immersed alive in scalding water for your ham sandwich, the chicken who lived in shit and amongst the dead bodies of other chickens whilst being unable to stand upright for your chicken salad or the cow who was stabbed and skinned alive.

Learn some compassion for all animals, not just the cute furry ones. If not, at least own your hypocrisy. If you eat meat you are paying to support far worse animal cruelty than the cruelty shown to the cat.

Just out of interest, how many people have said to you 'Do you know what? Being accused of being a sickening hypocrite with no compassion has really made me want to listen to you? Please do tell me what a terrible person I am, it will win me over.'?

You may have the moral high ground. All you are actually achieving is making sure people don't want to listen to you. Is that what you are intending?

purplehairlady · 12/02/2022 17:04
@FireMeetGasoline - thank you for your post. It’s thoughtful and measured and that type of approach helps me much more with regards to thoughts I’ve been having for a while.

@purplehairlady - with no respect whatsoever, fuck off. If becoming vegetarian/vegan means becoming a twat then you’re doing a great job of discouraging me.

FWIW, I definitely don’t treat my pets like children - and I don’t like it when people do so. Though, on balance, I’d find that preferable to someone treating a pet like Zouma did IN FRONT of a child.
Hahah calm down @Furries

The most hilarious things is I'M NOT A VEGAN OR VEGETARIAN. I love a good steak and struggle to eat any meal without some fish or meat.

I'm only responding to the ridiculous requests to send the guy to prison and pointing out how hypocritical these posts are. It's not whataboutery all I'm saying is the law has to be consistent in approach which is all I'm pointing out.

Guy is a weirdo to kick a cat imo & yes he should be banned from owning pets, but it doesn't warrant jail for 5 years or ending his career over it, as that's totally inconsistent with the fact hunting for one is legal in the U.K.!

purplehairlady · 12/02/2022 17:06

@Furries also what a pleasant person you must be to use abusive language on a pretty basic MN thread with people expressing different views Confused

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I think that's the point of a public forum!

FireMeetGasoline · 12/02/2022 17:10

New it @purplehairlady. As soon as you said you didn't want him to lose his job!

There is a difference between hunting and torturing an animal though. That is why one is illegal and one isn't. I think anyone capable of this should receive a custodial sentence, sadly, the 5 year imprisonment is only reserved for the most horrendous of acts.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 12/02/2022 17:12

@purplehairlady I'd rather be called a twat than a sickening hypocrite lacking in compassion - which is what you did. So I don't think you get to lecture @Furries on what is abusive language, frankly.

FireMeetGasoline · 12/02/2022 17:14

*Knew, omg Blush

Lol I think telling someone to "fuck off" is abusive language, but no problem maybe it's just me who doesn't use abusive language to people online...

Anyway some really interesting perspectives - have a great day all!

And no one was called a sickening hypocrite lacking in compassion Hmm, I'm just pointing out the mental gymnastics people are doing on this thread to justify the strange distinction in U.K. society between farm animals v cute furry pets.

sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea · 12/02/2022 17:24

@purplehairedlady Being told to fuck off barely registers on my radar. You literally said people were sickening hypocrites lacking in compassion. Can you see the difference between the two? Because one of those is far more offensive and abusive. So yep. You have been guiltier of far more abusive & emotive langage - and now you claim that you don't use abusive language? Enjoy your evening & your lovely warm lol glow.

Actually if you had the most basic comprehension skills, you would find it was @Appletreechocolatecake who said that Hmm

Gosh, I'm glad I will never meet some of you MN'ers in real life & I hope you don't think it's fine to tell people to "fuck off" in your workplace since that's apparently normal Smile

Furries · 12/02/2022 19:55

I was being polite, but whatever 🤣

@sadeyedladyofthelowlandsea - thanks. Generally, I am actually fairly polite. But sanctimonious hectoring tends to be one of the few things that pushes my buttons. I’ve also committed the crime of swearing at twatty colleagues once or twice - brief stint in a trading-floor environment years ago. Not an experience I’ve been in a rush to repeat!

TheOnlyMrsMac · 13/02/2022 16:34

A shame to see the thread derailed.

Back to the point: Zouma is not in the West Ham starting line-up v Leicester today after all. I am hearing that he is 'unwell.' Is it too much to hope WH and Moyes have been made to see sense?

ilovesooty · 13/02/2022 16:43

The team seems to be doing fine without him.

TheOnlyMrsMac · 16/03/2022 17:01

An RSPCA statement said: "Following a full and thorough investigation, we have started the process of bringing a prosecution against Kurt Zouma and Yoan Zouma under the Animal Welfare Act.

"The two cats continue to be cared for by the RSPCA. We will be in a position to release more information once a court date is confirmed."

Frollop · 16/03/2022 19:49

@TheOnlyMrsMac pleased to hear this update. It's not acceptable to treat animals with no respect and those who abuse them should be punished harshly, I hope this will be the case going forward.

TheOnlyMrsMac · 23/05/2022 14:48

Both charged and in court tomorrow:

Bump

kitkatkaytie · 23/05/2022 19:05

Good. Nasty men. I'm normally pretty liberal but I hope they get a severe punishment.

Bonjovispjs · 23/05/2022 19:28

Good, I hope they throw the book at them!

Furries · 24/05/2022 00:30

I’d only been thinking about this a few days ago. Obviously, I hope they are held accountable for their actions.

The main thing I want to know is that the cats have new homes and the brothers are not allowed pets again.
