House for 200k?

PeakyBlender · 07/02/2022 09:17

What can you buy for £200k near you?

Where we are it'll buy a one bed flat Sad

We can move anywhere in the UK, and it's got me thinking.

Is anywhere nice where it's possible to buy a house for that?

I am open to anything but ideally need 3 beds

A decent 3 bed semi where I am. East Midlands.

Forgetaboutme · 07/02/2022 09:20

My 4 bedroom detached house cost 200k 2 years ago so you could probably get a 3 bedroom detached for about 200k now here. I'm in a town near Glasgow.

Dammitthisisshit · 07/02/2022 09:22

When do you like OP? I’d go to the west coast of Scotland in a shot if I was truly free - Dh wont though!
You can get a 3 bed for 200 in a reasonable area.

But for me being able to see the sea trumps city life so it depends what you like.

I would love to be near the sea but also like city life too!

We love Norfolk but think it's out of budget.

I've only been to Scotland once but it was beautiful there too.

It would buy you a 1 or 2 bed flat in West Sussex, house prices are ridiculous here...

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 07/02/2022 09:33

We bought a 3bed for 170k last year in South Yorkshire. Just an average family house with nice schools, just outside a large town in a village.

However we have just been offered 220k for it (we aren't selling!). So even here prices are going up.

accidentlygothereagain · 07/02/2022 09:34

Where I live now, 1 bed flat max. (Sussex)
Where I used to live, 2/3 bed house. (Midlands)

itwasntaparty · 07/02/2022 09:34

I'd go north, if I could, Scotland appeals, I went to uni.

I just did a rightmove search in my area, 200 doesn't bring up anything at all.

Ozanj · 07/02/2022 09:39

I live in a part of the country where you can’t get anything within 50 miles for under 200K.

Pinkywoo · 07/02/2022 09:41

You could definitely get a 3 bed semi in Norfolk, just not North Norfolk, prices are crazy up there (partly because of second home owners but we won't get into that!).

SparksAndShiningDragons · 07/02/2022 09:41

Right now the cheapest property on the market here is a studio flat for £190k. Second cheapest is a 1 bed flat in a 1960s tower block for £210k.

Ridiculous. What hope do young people have? The council list is decades long and private rent is extortionate (cheapest right now is £925 for a 1 bed flat).

doggydaft · 07/02/2022 09:42

It would buy you a 3 bed semi/terraced where I am. About 10 miles from Glasgow. Excellent transport links and decent schools.
You'd need to up your budget to 250-300k for detached or new build, prices seem to be really be on the rise here, much like everywhere else.

TheFlis12345 · 07/02/2022 09:43

It wouldn’t buy anything where I live (Home Counties, easy commute to London). According to Rightmove the cheapest thing on the market is a 1 bed flat at £220k but that is in a retirement complex so over 55’s only. Our 3 bed cost £550k last year but now very similar properties are at least £600k.

Pinkywoo · 07/02/2022 09:46

This one has a huuuuuge garden!

DS is moving into their brand new 4 bed detached house for slightly less than that in West of Northern Ireland, about an hour from Belfast.

pointythings · 07/02/2022 09:48

You'd get a 3 bedroom for under £200k where we are, but not in the nicest part of town. In my street you'd get a 3 bedroom for about £250k, and that's the nice bit of the town.

Pinkywoo · 07/02/2022 09:48

Not sure why it says Norwich, it's miles away near the sea.

Tudortimes · 07/02/2022 09:48

You can get a nice house for £200k in the Pembroke area. Try a rightmove search. It's a great place to live close to some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, lovely countryside and steeped in history. Henry V11 was born in Pembroke castle, it's a lovely little town. Narberth is gorgeous.

TheVolturi · 07/02/2022 09:49

4 bed detached easy.

TheVolturi · 07/02/2022 09:50

Sorry East Lancashire

MrsPnut · 07/02/2022 09:50

It’d buy a reasonable house here like this www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/117774104#/?channel=RES_BUY

Tellthemagain · 07/02/2022 09:51

3 bed terrace that needs updating in Whitley bay/North Shields (sand sea and easy to newcastle..)

Thepowerofthelook · 07/02/2022 09:52

A 3 bed semi in South Yorkshire village with school, post office and a pub. 2 miles from nearest (small market town) with train. 15 miles from nearest town.

ElleGB · 07/02/2022 09:52

We bought a 3 (double) bedroom detached with a conservatory, garage and playroom in a nice village for £180k two years ago.

East Midlands.
